La-headquartered China Lion Film Distribution has picked up Chinese titles Running Man and Somewhere Only We Know for release in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Both will go day-and-date with their Mainland debuts later this month and in mid-February, the latter taking advantage of the early Chinese New Year corridor. (See teasers below.)
Each of the films has a strong hook for Chinese, and Korean, audiences. Running Man mixes talent from both countries and is adapted from a popular reality TV series which itself was based on an original Korean format. Somewhere Only We Know taps the trend of romance and nostalgia, and stars Kris Wu, a former member of Korean/Chinese boy band Exo.
Running Man, which China Lion picked up from Wanda Media Group, is a feature spinoff of the popular reality TV show that revolves around celebrity teams who compete against one another for an ultimate prize.

The Grind
Stars: Jamie Foreman, Danny John-Jules, Zoe Tapper, Gordon Alexander, Kellie Shirley | Written and Directed by Rishi Opel
The Grind quite simply is a low budget British gangster film, if you can call a criminal loan shark a gangster. It’s a tale of people living the dream to have a night club and make a success out of it, losers who affect other people’s lives through addiction and just plain selfishness.
At the start of the story Vince has everything; he’s living his dream and has managed to build up his night club to be popular and dreams of opening a casino. The problem is though the funding and business deal that he’d be part of is based on money from a loan shark, which is of course not a good place to start. Add to that police starting investigations into a drugs death in...

When an injured hitchhiker shows up at their door, each person begins to question if one of their own is the actual killer. *full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Image Entertainment.
**here be some minor spoilers.
Director: Kelly Smith.
Writers: Kelly Smith and Chris Andrews.
Cast: Sophie Linfield, Sam Hazeldine, and Gordon Alexander.
Be careful who you pick up on the highway while on holiday. Make sure you stop for a hot blonde but not a grizzled lout. Otherwise, your time away from work will be full of murder and prose of trees needing "to be fed." This is the lesson that Don't Let Him In teaches horror fans as Kelly Smith's first film is confined by its budget while still finding a way to use psychology to tragic effect. As well, a small cast, one primary setting and only a few camera tricks keep this picture in indie territory with the film slightly formulaic. The film is slightly conservative overall.

You know your movie is in trouble when Danny John-Jules gets top billing. If you don't know who that is, congratulations, you're not nerdy enough to be a fan of Red Dwarf, the BBC's long-running sci fi sitcom. In it, John-Jules played a sentient humanoid cat who dressed and talked like James Brown. For the most part it was more believable than this movie.

It.s never a good idea to go on vacation to a house/cabin/camp site in an isolated wood. You know you.re asking for trouble. That groups of friends continue to do so is testament to the power of story, naive behaviour and death wish. Now what happens when you take that vacation in the woods And invite a serial killer along?
Kelly Smith.s first feature is a movie inspired by fillms like The Hills Have Eyes, old school Hammer House, and I would say a dash of Friday the 13th. Shot on 16mm, which gives a grainy edge, the film delivers on the body count, has an awesome serial killer, and there.s a nice twist at the end. I felt the movie came in a little short at 85 minutes,...

You've got to love the fact that the word 'Don't' is so synonymous with horror. Don't do this, don't look in there, don't open that! Edgar Wright's faux-Grindhouse trailer 'Don't epitomises it's use. The word instantly taps into that childlike instinct you get to practically want to do the complete opposite of what your parents expect - expecially when told Not to do it in the first place. Which brings us on to news from the second movie of the day to feature this four letter example. 'Don't Let Him In' is the new Brit slasher film from director Kelly Smith. Smith co-wrote the script along with Chris Andrews and the flick stars Sophie Linfield ('The Football Factory'), Sam Hazeldine, Gordon Alexander, Rhys Meredith, Gemma Harvey and Poppy Grout.
