NFL Sunday Ticket subscriber Leo Tolstoy once wrote, “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” That’s an apt summation of the New England Patriots during their championship run in the first two decades of this century. There were six Super Bowl wins, but everyone — particularly quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick — seemed to be on an endless deployment aboard the Hms Misery. Proud of their accomplishments? Absolutely. Enjoyed the ride? Not so much. Eventually, Brady jumped ship for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Apple TV+’s docuseries “Dynasty” has devoted 10 episodes to the Patriots of quarterback Tom Brady, coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft. The series is a fascinating if overlong examination — an episode on temporary Qb Matt Cassel feels like a preseason telecast — of the formidable business question: If an organization is questing for eternal excellence, does that mean...

Backlash surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continues. A reporter agrees with Spotify executive Bill Simmons, who once called the couple “grifters,” saying that Meghan and Harry’s new website motto should be “all grift, no duty.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still ‘grifters’ claims reporter
The New York Post reporter Kirsten Fleming shared her opinion regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal fame without ties. She writes, “Theirs is a solid strategy for amassing personal wealth — and ensuring they always have a ride to the next glitzy concert, movie premiere, or charity dinner to pick up yet another empty award.”
As working royals, the couple were tasked with rules regarding gifts. The House of Windsor does not allow any royal family members to accept free items, as it would place them under obligation to the donor.

Conor McGregor is an extremely loved and respected Mma fighter. While some may know him for his upcoming appearance in Jake Gyllenhall’s film, Road House, he has made a name for himself while fighting in the UFC, being a Featherweight and Lightweight Champion.
It is because of how loved and successful he is, that fans are distraught at the recently revealed lineup for the UFC 300.
Conor McGregor
While Dana White announced that McGregor will not be fighting until November this year, fans were hoping to persuade him through their support for the former champ. This, unfortunately, did not end up being the case as the fighters for the Main Event have been announced and McGregor’s name being missing is not a good sign.

Spotify has reached a multi-year extension with top podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, securing an important talent relationship but also shifting to a non-exclusive distribution plan for the show.
Rogan’s podcast will stream on Spotify, but also will also be available on Apple, Amazon and YouTube under the revised distribution strategy that Spotify began pursuing in 2023. The company said it “will work closely with Joe and his team to continue to maximize the audience of the show across platforms,” with the company overseeing distribution and marketing.
This year’s expiration of Rogan’s current deal, which was worth a reported $200 million, had prompted speculation about rival platforms potentially luring him away or even him forming a new corporate entity based around the show. Spotify has pruned its once-deep roster of podcast talent, but opted to extend Rogan, who has consistently been a chart-topping host, though he regularly courts controversy...

During yet another dramatic week for the British royal family, UK media reports that WME has been holding crisis talks with its high-profile clients Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Despite Harry’s victory in the UK’s High Court on Friday – where he won a $180,000 payout in damages for having his phone hacked by Mirror Group Newspapers – the week has been chequered with reports that a string of failed projects and brand partnerships have left the couple complaining of a vendetta being waged against them.
The UK’s Express newspaper quotes one insider telling them that, despite the success of the sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the huge figures for their at-home Netflix documentary series in December 2022 and the record-breaking sales of Harry’s memoir Spare earlier this year, “There have been talks held with high profile brands that didn’t lead to anything but should have done. The 1997 race for the Heisman Trophy will be explored in an installment of the 14th season of ESPN’s “30 for 30” series.
Titled “The Great Heisman Race of 1997,” the ESPN Films docu will debut on Dec. 9 on ESPN immediately following the broadcast of the Heisman Trophy Ceremony, which will air on the network.
The doc will focus on the race between Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson. Manning stunned the sports world in 1997 by deciding to return for his senior season at the University of Tennessee and spurning the NFL, making him the Heisman front-runner as he set his sights on an SEC Championship. But while Manning was the preseason favorite, other candidates arrived during the season including Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf, Marshall University’s wide receiver Randy Moss and Woodson (University of Michigan). The docu, directed by Gentry Kirby, will use archival footage to examine and unpack the race for the hallowed honor.

In the world of sitcoms, few shows have garnered a fanbase as dedicated as “Seinfeld.” Recently, rumors about a possible reboot of the show have been swirling, stirring excitement among fans. However, Jason Alexander, known for his role as the neurotic George Costanza, has some disappointing news regarding these speculations.
In a candid interview with Extra, Alexander revealed that he is in the dark about any potential revival of the show. His words were a surprise, especially following Jerry Seinfeld’s intriguing comments in a stand-up routine, where Seinfeld hinted at something in the works with Larry David, the show’s co-creator. Seinfeld’s cryptic message suggested they might plan to address the show’s controversial finale.
The finale aired to mixed reviews and saw the main characters getting arrested for their indifference during a mugging. Larry David, discussing the finale with Bill Simmons of Grantland in 2014, acknowledged the divided reception.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might’ve found a new home for “Archetypes.” The couple’s reportedly in talks to sign a potential podcasting deal with Audible after their Spotify partnership ended.
Audible execs are ‘very interested’ in a podcasting deal with Harry and Meghan
They may have been called “f***ing grifters” by Spotify’s Bill Simmons, but the comment didn’t seem to sour others on partnering with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
According to a report from Ok! Magazine, there’s a chance Meghan might relaunch her “Archetypes” podcast, which ran for one season on Spotify, on Audible.
“Audible’s audience could be interested in the American royals,” per the report. Meanwhile, Express reported the pair’s business advisors are already “in talks” with Audible. Plus, Meghan’s talent agency, William Morris Endeavor, or WME, is also said to be “closely involved.”

When Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle stepped down from their roles within the royal family and moved across the pond, the couple signed a handful of lucrative deals, and one was with Spotify. The streaming giant waited nearly two years for the Sussexes to produce content. Finally, in August 2022 the Duchess of Sussex launched her podcast titled Archetypes.
After a promising start, Meghan’s podcast could not maintain a top position and dropped to No. 22 by November. In June, the company decided not to renew Archetypes and terminated its deal with the duke and duchess. Now, Spotify’s boss is giving insight into why the streaming platform decided to cancel the former Suits star‘s podcast.

It seems another chapter in the rollercoaster career of Meghan Markle has closed, with the Daily Mail reporting that the former actress has withdrawn applications to trademark the Archetypes podcast name.
Markle had previously released one series of the podcast on the Spotify platform – billed as an attempt to “examine and subject the labels that seek to limit women” and including interviews with guests including Serena Williams, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey – as part of a reported $29-37million deal signed with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back in 2020.
The deal was officially terminated this June, when a spokesman for the couple’s production company announced that Markle “was continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform,” and indeed applications were lodged with the US Patent and Trademark Office to protect the podcast’s name at that time.

Ask the most powerful people in podcasting whether we’ve reached “peak podcast” and the answer is a resounding no. Or, more specifically, a “hell no,” an “absolutely not” and a “don’t be ridiculous!” Still, the medium isn’t without its challenges. “Podcasting has gone from being an industry that had a ton of speculative money thrown at it, to an industry that now has to figure out how to make money,” notes Audacy’s Jenna Weiss-Berman when asked to describe how it has transformed over the last five years. Not long after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to America, they signed a lucrative deal between their company Archewell Audio and Spotify. Fans waited in anticipation for nearly two years to hear streaming content from the Sussexes and in August 2022, Harry’s wife released her own podcast called Archetypes. But after just one season and 12 episodes, Spotify decided not to renew Meghan’s podcast. It was then publicly announced that Archwell and Spotify had agreed to part ways.
Now, the backlash from the Sussexes’ Spotify breakup has been fierce and the couple is reportedly “sick and tired” of it. Here’s more on the pair’s reaction to the “cheap shots” directed at them.

It looks like Taylor Swift and Meghan Markle won’t be best friends any time soon — or, perhaps Swift was just too busy planning her “The Eras” tour (more likely that it’s the second one) to hang out with the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan Markle, who launched her now-defunct podcast “Archetypes” last year, supposedly asked Swift to stop in and be a guest on the show. However, a new report suggests that Swift declined; the report rolled out not long after Spotify announced that it had chosen to part ways with Meghan, who is supposedly taking the show to another platform. But maybe it’s not so much about why Swift declined but rather how she declined.

Ever since news broke that Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast was not renewed for a second season, many royal watchers have wondered why Prince Harry did not develop his own podcast since it was believed he was going to do one too as part of the couple’s Spotify deal.
Well now, it’s being reported that the duke’s wish list of guests was not something the streaming service wanted any part of. Here’s more on that and what a commentator is saying about the prince getting off his “privileged backside” and finding actual work.

Jennifer Lawrence "didn't even get a callback" after her 'Twilight' audition. The 'Hunger Games' actress - who shot to fame as Katniss Everdeen in the huge franchise - almost made her name in a very different film series as she tried to land a role in the 2008 vampire blockbuster.Appearing on 'The Rewatchables' podcast, she told host Bill Simmons: "I auditioned for ‘Twilight'.“They turned me down immediately. Jennifer Lawrence opened up about how she auditioned for Twilight and was turned down “immediately,” only to land The Hunger Games a year later.
During an appearance on The Rewatchables podcast with Bill Simmons, the No Hard Feelings actress explained that she didn’t even get a callback for the role of Bella Swan, which eventually went to Kristen Stewart. But she’s glad she didn’t.
“My life would’ve been totally different,” she said. “I mean, the work is still the same because I felt similar when I was doing Hunger Games. I have to churn out movies in between so that I’m not only known for this franchise. I was still in a franchise, so I was still trying to counteract the franchise-ness, and I would still be doing that if I was in Twilight.”

While the royal family has made headlines following events like Trooping the Colour and their appearances at the Royal Ascot, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also been in the news but not for reasons they would have liked.
In June, Spotify declined to renew the duchess’s Archetypes podcast for a second season. Spotify executive Bill Simmons then publicly called Harry and Meghan “f****** grifters.” On top of that, their ideas for Netflix were labeled as “sub-par” prompting reports that the streaming giant will end its contract with the pair when it’s up in 2025. The royal family hasn’t commented on any news related to the Sussexes but according to a biographer, they’re laughing about it now.

Pearls were clutched all over Hollywood on Monday in the wake of an unlikely press beef – United Talent Agency CEO Jeremy Zimmer and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
On a media spree at the Cannes Lions for the past week, Zimmer was asked about the recent meltdown of a $20 million multi-year deal Meghan and husband Prince Harry signed with Spotify in 2020. The pact produced a single series, “Archetypes,” which was not renewed. The termination of the deal was announced June 15.
“Turns out Meghan Markle was not a great audio talent, or necessarily any kind of talent,” Zimmer told Semafor at the marketing festival in the South of France. “And, you know, just because you’re famous doesn’t make you great at something.”
His comments were “mind-blowing,” according to one A-list talent manager who asked to remain anonymous. “As an agent, you never publicly discuss your own talent or anyone else’s.

After the announcement that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Spotify podcast, Archetypes, will not be renewed for a second season, the head of podcast innovation and monetization at Spotify, Bill Simmons, has made a comment about the decision.
During the last episode of his podcast, The Ringer, he called Harry and Meghan “f—ing grifters.”
Harry and Meghan first agreed to create their podcast with Spotify back in 2020, which was a $20 million deal.
Simmons similarly had a deal with Spotify where he sold his podcast in 2020 for $196 million. He also now works for Spotify as a result of his deal.
During this episode, he discussed the news with his guest Joe House.
Simmons did not hold back, insulting the two several times. He told House that Harry had reached out to him looking for help “with a podcast idea.”

Prince Harry reportedly had multiple podcast ideas during his and Meghan Markle’s partnership with Spotify, however, none of them ever materialized.
Bloomberg’s Ashley Carman looked into why Harry’s ideas weren’t taken on by the streaming platform, with the “Soundbite” newsletter reporter speaking to those with knowledge of the situation to see what Harry had come up with.

Spotify’s relationship with the Sussexes was, in the end, a mess.
The two parties formally ended their exclusive podcast deal on June 15 in the press after The Wall Street Journal reported that Spotify was not renewing Meghan Markle’s Archetypes show for a second season and the duchess was “continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform, according to a statement shared with the paper that was first attributed to a spokesperson for Archewell Productions before being changed to WME, which signed Markle and Archewell in April.

Bill Simmons, who sold The Ringer to Spotify in 2020 and has risen through the tech company’s executive ranks, derided Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on his podcast Friday as “f–king grifters.”
The Sussexes and Spotify confirmed Thursday they have parted ways after signing a deal reportedly worth $20 million three years ago for their production company, Archewell. The pact was part of Spotify’s surge in spending on podcasting, a push including the roughly $200 million Ringer acquisition. More recently, the audio giant has scaled back and laid off staff, consolidating divisions and emphasizing the creator economy instead of big-ticket talent, though it still has Joe Rogan and a few other notable hosts on its podcast roster.
Simmons, who still runs the Ringer and is also Head of Podcast Innovation and Monetization at Spotify, made the comments on his eponymous podcast.

Music streaming giant Spotify is making a new round of cuts to its podcast division following a broad round of layoffs in January and job cuts in October.
In a memo to staff Monday morning from Sahar Elhabashi, the head of Spotify’s podcast unit, the company said that it would be reducing its workforce by about 2 percent, representing around 200 jobs.
“We are expanding our partnership efforts with leading podcasters from across the globe with a tailored approach optimized for each show and creator,” Elhabashi wrote. “This fundamental pivot from a more uniform proposition will allow us to support the creator community better. In addition, Spotify will merge its Parcast and Gimlet into a single Spotify Studios division, which will join The Ringer in producing Spotify originals.

A version of this story about “Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed” first appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
The latest installment in the HBO Max Music Box series created by Bill Simmons, “Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed” finds director Sam Jones following the writing and recording of singer Jason Isbell’s 2020 album “Reunions.” But the film is about far more than one of the gifted musician and writer’s best albums, delving into his self-destructive days with drugs and alcohol and his marriage to fellow singer Amanda Shires, a charged creative and personal partnership that nearly fell apart while Jones’ cameras were rolling.
Sam, why a film about Jason Isbell?
Sam Jones: He was on my interview show (“Off Camera With Sam Jones”), and once I chatted with him, I felt like not only did he have an interesting story, but...

On Wednesday night, entertainment heavyweights like Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos, Spotify exec Bill Simmons, and comedians and actors Tiffany Haddish and Travon Free gathered at République Los Angeles for dinner with Bloomberg Media CEO M. Scott Havens.
The dinner was a celebration of sorts for Bloomberg, which is forging a larger presence on the West Coast as it seeks growth opportunities. The company is pursuing an expansion in video content and building out a development office in L.A. to help it do so. It’s also launching a new live event based on its Screentime newsletter, betting that it can establish an event footprint in Hollywood.
The dinner was “a chance to meet a lot of the movers and shakers in the business and to say, ‘We’re here and we want to talk to you, we want you to come to our events, we want to interview you,...

Yes, we are making a meal out of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s recent appearance on Bill Simmons’s The Ringer podcast recently to promote Affleck’s new directorial effort “Air” which co-stars Damon (read our review), about Nike and its relationship with Michael Jordan and we fully admit it. Look, it’s just chalked full of good stories, and look; sometimes this is (infinitely) more interesting than the regular news grist mill.

Jason Isbell is the subject of HBO’s latest Music Box documentary Running with Our Eyes Closed, which has now received its official trailer. Watch it below.
Going behind the scenes of Isbell’s recording of 2020’s Reunions with his band The 400 Unit, the docufilm is directed and produced by Sam Jones (Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off). In addition to pulling back the curtain on his creative process, Isbell opens up about his difficult childhood in rural Alabama and struggles with alcoholism while as a member of Drive-By Truckers. The Covid-19 pandemic brings an additional layer to the documentary, challenging the artist to take self-doubt head-on.
Running with Our Eyes Closed also provides a close look at Isbell’s relationship with his wife (and acclaimed artist in her own right) Amanda Shires, showing how their artistic collaboration both strengthens and complicates their marriage. “I know how he gets when he makes records,...
