After filling out a new questionnaire, Eminem’s most ardent stans will stand a chance to make it into the upcoming documentary, Stans. The rapper posted a link to social media on Wednesday that leads to a form to fill out in order to prove your devotion to the artist.
Here are some sample questions:
“Would you consider yourself a ‘Stan’? Why / why not?”
“Do you collect Eminem merch, make Eminem artwork, write fan fiction, etc.?”
“Have you ever been to Detroit? If so, when, why, and where did you go?...

Eminem is fittingly set to co-produce, and be the partial focus of, a new documentary about obsessive superfans, tentatively (and obviously) titled Stans.
As Variety reports, the new project was directed by Steven Leckart, and uses Eminem and “the fans that worship him” as a launching point for what’s described as a “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom.” Stans is apparently just the working title — named, of course, for Eminem and Dido’s 2000 hit “Stan” about an obsessive, delusional fan — but it’s hard...

After inadvertently coining the term “stan” on his 2000 song of the same name, Eminem is now set to co-produce Stans, a documentary about overzealous superfans.
As first reported by Variety, the new documentary will be a “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.” While Eminem may not be the first artist that comes to mind when thinking of overreaching fans in 2024, his chilling track “Stan” laid the groundwork for describing the type of parasocial relationship that many fanatics have with their favorite artists.
Eminem will co-produce the documentary under his Shady Films banner, with Steven Leckart serving as its director. A release date is unconfirmed, but the film is slated to come later this year. Eminem’s longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, and Shady Films...

Eminem, whose 2000 song “Stan” coined the term for fanatical and sometimes delusional superfans, is co-producing a documentary on the phenomenon via his Shady Films, in association with Diga Studios and Hill District Media, with initial distribution from Paramount/MTV.
The film, directed by Steven Leckart, is slated for release later this year.
According to the synopsis, the film — with the working title “Stans” — is a “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.”
Shady Films’ Paul Rosenberg (Eminem’s longtime manager) and Stuart Parr say, “’Stans’ will be the opportunity for us to to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being fans — and in some cases, fanatics. This is a study of the relationship between fanbase and artist through the lens of...

Eminem Does Not Want to Sit for a Deposition In His Trademark Fight With Two ‘Real Housewives’ Stars
Eminem’s trademark dispute with Real Housewives of Potomac stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon over their “Reasonably Shady” podcast (and other ventures) has descended into a back-and-forth over whether the rapper should have to sit for a deposition.
Earlier this month, Bryant and Dixon filed a motion trying to compel Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) to sit for a deposition, which the rapper promptly rebuffed in a Dec. 15 filing (first reported by AllHipHop). Mathers’ lawyer also sought to secure a protective order “precluding the deposition” of the rapper.

I participated in a Dreamago panel moderated by WGA-West VP and USC film writing prof and an artistic director at the Sundance Institute Wrting Labs, Howard Rodman.
Other panelists included Vince Fischer who, having been educated and working in Paris, Montreal, New York in business and advertising, event production, and creating the endorsement agency GlamCom which initiates deals between celebrities and products, such as he did with George Clooney and Nespresso, has gone on to create Artistic Alliance Eci which represents screenwriters, directors and actors with offices in Beijing, L.a. and Paris, to match people and projects abroad. Daniel Hsia, the writer/ director of Shanghai Calling, (Isa: Aldamisa) a U.S. - China co-production distributed in China by China Film Group and in So. Korea by Sookie and due to be released in Norht America in 2013 works with Janet Yang and is eager to do more co-productions in China though he admits to difficulties with censors, etc. You can see the trailer of Shanghai Calling here.
Neil Landau who wrote Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, the 3D animated feature Tad: The Lost Explores from Paramount which is the highest grossing animated film in Spain's history and the #1 Spanish box ofice movie of the year, is now working on its sequel and another animated feature by the same director. His latest screenplay is being produced by Cary Brokaw for Avenue Pictures (The Player, Closer, Angels in America). He is curretnly developing an original miniseries for HBO for the Russian Market and a crime drama for Sreda in Moscow.
Paula Manzanedo-Schmitt is VP of Film Finances Inc. the world leader in completion guarantees. She has been involved in more than 1,000 films and TV programs internationally and in U.S. She spoke of the various cross-cultural requisites in film production abroad.
The discussion centered around whether filmmakers could make a film without the notorioius interference of studios (they should all be so lucky as to have this problem). In other words, the panelists discussed their experiences making films with Russians and Chinese. All agreed that working abroad, and especially with international sales agents who also produce allows for greater freedom of vision (although in China the reward is writng so that China censorship does not interfere because one has written to their specifications). All agreed also that there is a certain cross-cultural divide one must discover in order to work effectively.
My suggestions for finding a way to create without corporate interferences are listed below:
** Coproduce with Canada who has the most coproduction treaties in the world, or go directly to producers or sales agents who do not rely on treaties.
** Work with international sales agents who produce international coproductions which include U.S., or with the producers of those films who now have established track records.

Hungaricom Ltd (Hungary) has the English language animated comedy feature The Secret of Moonacre and Immigrants - L.A. Dolce Vita both produced by Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo, and Gabor Kalomista, a Los Angeles based company with Hungarian born principals. The synopsis of Immigrants is worth repeating: More people immigrate to America than to all other countries in the whole world combined. Why? Is it because they love hot dogs and hamburgers? Or because they want to meet Snoop Dogg or have a close encounter with Pamela Anderson? Maybe. But the real reason is – immigrants go to the U.S. to chase the American dream. Immigrants is the story of Vladislav (a Russian), and Joska (a Hungarian). Both are immigrants and best friends, living and chasing the American dream together. Vlad has a daughter, Ana, who’s adapting to life in America at the speed of light, while her dad is in complete culture shock. They stay at the Vista del Mar, an apartment complex run by an old failed actress, Greta Knight, who is always after Vlad for sexual favors. The building is home to immigrants from all over the world: Flaco, a friend from Mexico; Mr. Chea, who runs a Chinese family restaurant; Nazim, a former Pakistani nuclear scientist who drives a tour bus; and Mr. Splits, an old black pimp. We follow Vlad and Joska in their adventures… through their encounter with the American capitalist company Glut-co, through their attempt to open a Russian/Hungarian restaurant, and as their friendship is put in jeopardy when they hit the L.A. night scene. All the while Vlad is looking for a way to make a life for himself and his daughter; and Joska… well, Joska is mainly looking for women.

Joe is the story of the last hold-out of the cowboy age, when it was okay to shoot up a bar room or tell a lady what to do.

The Eminem boxing movie Southpaw to be directed by Antoine Fuqua may not be knocked-out after all. Variety reports that MGM has closed a deal to take on the drama after it was sent into turnaround in August. The Kurt Sutter-scripted project was thought to be dead, after insiders speculated that another studio would not be interested in coming aboard.
Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr at Eminem's Shady Films banner and the father-and-son producing team of Alan and Peter Riche never gave up and kept working to get the film made. They must have done something right because MGM reportedly beat our other studios like Alcon Entertainment and Summit Entertainment.

Last year we reported on Eminem's boxing movie, Southpaw. This will be the rapper-turned-actor's first film since 8 Mile. It looks like DreamWorks may be close to landing director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) for a fall start date. The script was written by Kurt Sutter, and it tells the story of "a welterweight champ who punches his way back to glory after a tragedy."
DreamWorks picked up the project in December after The Fighter was such a box-office and award show success. The film is being produced by Alan and Peter Riche along with Sutter. Stuart Parr, Paul Rosenberg and Peter Schiff are serving as executive producers.
I think Fuqua would be a good fit as director of this film. I am still having trouble imagining Eminem as a boxer, but I may end up being surprised. What are your thoughts?...

Eminem is back in the movie world it seems, as Vulture reports he is headed to Hollywood to star in 20th Century Fox‘s crime thriller, Random Acts of Violence.

Acts of Violence’s production has been fraught with problems for a number of years, with massive rewrites being created and then subsequently trashed. Now it seems writer and director David Von Ancken, the man behind Showtime‘s Californication, has revamped the story to make it into a crime thriller similar to The Departed or The Town.

Wow.. things are heating up for Eminem. A few weeks ago we wrote about a project the rapper/actor was developing about boxing called Southpaw. Well, Vulture reports on another new "crime thriller" project he's got in the works at 20th Century Fox called Random Acts of Violence. He must have landed a good agent and I'm sure the huge success (last year's biggest-selling album) of his newest album "Recovery" has helped, too. Vulture's insiders with the details tell them that Eminem's Shady Films partners Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr, who also produced 8 Mile and Get Rich or Die Tryin', will produce the film. More details inside! Random Acts of Violence, originally described as "a poor man's version of video game Grand Theft Auto" (uh oh) in its first iteration, is some sort of crime thriller akin to The Town or The Departed, with Eminem as some morally twisted ex-con guy.

After affirming his name in music industry with "Recovery" which was named 2010's U.S. biggest-selling album, Eminem is going to greet his fans on big screen. The rapper is eying a role in "Random Acts of Violence" which is being made at 20th Century Fox, New York Magazine's Vulture reports.
The project was initially developed as "a poor man's version of video game Grand Theft Auto". Later, the script has undergone several changes with the latest one drafted by director/writer David Von Ancken telling a "thriller more akin to 'The Town' or 'The Departed'."
Sources familiar with the movie's current draft say the story follows an ex-con smarter than his past who "is fresh out of prison and trying to stay legit - but his efforts are complicated by his old gang who wants him back on the job." The FBI wants him to return to the gang...

Eminem‘s fans, check this out!
Famous rapper will play the lead role in Southpaw, a film about “a fast-rising welterweight boxer who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to tragedy.”
At this moment, we know that the movie will be produced by Em’s Shady Films’ managers and producing partners Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr, along with Alan and Peter Riche of Riche Productions.
Kurt Sutter, the executive producer of Sons of Anarchy and The Shield, will serve as the screenplay writer.
Southpaw marks Eminem’s return to acting after earning a lot of critical praise for his debut performance in 2002’s 8 Mile.
Here’s what Sutter had to say about the upcoming project:
“I took meetings with Marshall’s producing partners over the past 7 years, looking for something to do together. I know he’s very selective and doesn’t do a lot.

Rapper Eminem is set to return to the big screen after signing a movie deal with Hollywood talent agency International Creative Management. The 8 Mile star recently turned down an offer of $8 million to star opposite Samuel L. Jackson in director Doug Liman's upcoming film Jumper. He had previously pledged to stay away from Hollywood, but has apparently had a change of heart and has agreed to play a role in the remake of the 1950s TV Western Have Gun Will Travel. In the new version, the Stan singer will reportedly play professional gunslinger Palladin, who was portrayed by Richard Boone in the original TV series. ICM will also represent Interscope/Shady/Aftermath films, the Paramount Pictures-based production company Eminem runs with Stuart Parr and David Schiff. Paramount is developing the new film along with the rapper, who is reportedly also recording the music for the movie, which will be shot in his home town of Detroit, Michigan.

Like the Eminem starrer "8 Mile", "Get Rich or Die Tryin'", starring rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, takes many elements from the rap star's real life and folds them into the contours of a quasi-fictional film that charts the entertainer's path through poverty and despair to stardom. Both stories are similar in that this path is littered with daunting obstacles, which its true-life hero did overcome. The difference here is that for all its biographical truth, "Get Rich"'s journey into a ghetto of hustlers, gangstas and mindless violence is all too familiar.
Stretching back to blaxploitation in the '70s to recent films by John Singleton, Ernest Dickerson and others, we've moved down these mean streets, watched drive-by shootings and witnessed drug deals and gang feuds ad infinitum. Fortunately for the film's boxoffice, it will draw from two distinct demographics. Director Jim Sheridan has a definite following in major urban markets, colleges and special venues thanks to such films as "In America" and "My Left Foot", while 50 Cent, of course, has a huge following among rap fans and blacks. So boxoffice looks strong.
Sheridan and writer Terence Winter, once a staff writer on "The Sopranos", do have several things going for them to partially offset the been-there, done-that feeling. One is a ruthlessly unsentimental and nonjudgmental approach to a life mired in poverty, where crime seems the only way out. The film offers no emotional pleas or social messages; rather, its makers deliver an unblinking distillation of the urban experience for far too many young black males.
Another positive is 50 Cents himself. There should be no surprise that rappers such as Eminem and 50 Cent prove talented actors. As performers onstage, performers who have renamed themselves, they have long played a character based on but not to be confused with their own personas. They are actors.
50 Cent's range is not as wide as Eminem's, but he creates plenty of empathy for the fatherless boy, here called Marcus, whose drug-dealer mom (Serena Reeder) dies when he is 12. Marcus' grandparents take him in, but the boy heads down the only path he sees open to him when he gets into crime just like his mom.
The film hits all the well-publicized highlights of the life of 50 Cent in his ascension in a gang of drug dealers, their war with Colombian dealers, a flirtation with rap that never takes hold since crime seems so much easier and finally the nine gunshot wounds that miraculously failed to take his life.
In cinematographic terms, Winter's screenplay is always in intense medium close-up, never pulling back for a wider angle of society or even New York. Does his character really have no other options than crime? Does society take any blame? Could his grandparents (Viola Davis and Sullivan Walker) have intervened? The film doesn't even ask. It just barrels ahead with a life heading for tragedy that, again miraculously, takes a detour into creativity. That it leads to musical success is merely gravy. For the portrait here is one of creativity winning the day and saving a life -- or maybe several -- when Marcus' girlfriend (Joy Bryant) gives birth to his son and he accepts responsibility for his family's well-being.
As with all Sheridan movies, this one contains fine acting. The suddenly hot Terrence Howard stands out as Bama, a fellow ex-con and friend who encourages Marcus' move into rap and winds up as his manager. London-born Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje brings an icy chill to his portrait of a gangsta whose friendship can turn lethal in a moment.
Veteran Bill Duke enters "Godfather" territory with his heavy-limbed, dignified portrait of a ruthless drug kingpin. Newcomer Reeder shows exceptional talent and beauty as Marcus' mother.
And, as with many Sheridan movies, the director demonstrates a fascination with how family units function and flourish under adverse conditions. It is especially attentive to the changing attitudes of its lead character, who is marvelously played as a child by Marc John Jefferies until 50 Cent can take over.
The soundtrack is not, fortunately, chockablock with music and rap. Music is used discreetly for dramatic impact, though there is more than enough to guarantee huge album sales. Declan Quinn and designer Mark Geraghty, both of whom worked with Sheridan on "In America", definitely capture the grit and seemingly omnipresent darkness of the South Bronx.

Declan Quinn and designer Mark Geraghty, both of whom worked with Sheridan on "In America", definitely capture the grit and seemingly omnipresent darkness of the South Bronx.
