Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in an adaptation of Ollie Masters graphic novel ‘Snow Blind’ with Gustav Möller set to helm.
The story follows Teddy, a high school student in a sleepy Alaskan suburb whose life is turned upside down after he innocently posts a photo of his dad online.
He quickly learns that he and his family are in the Witness Protection Program and soon a man seeking revenge invades their town followed soon after by pursuing FBI agents. His dad’s reasons for going into the program also may not be as innocent as he says. Sources say the film is “Prisoners meets Running on Empty”.
Patrick Ness, who penned ‘A Monster Calls’, is writing the script.

Once believed to be a shoo-in for the Captain Marvel gig, TheWrap brings word today that Emily Carmichael – a director who has enjoyed notable success in the indie scene with a string of eye-catching shorts, including The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting – has agreed terms to helm the Lumberjanes adaptation for 20th Century Fox.
First hatched as an eight-part limited series two years ago, Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis and Brooke Allen are the brains behind the “female version of The Goonies.” Since that humble debut, Lumberjanes has gone on to attract a strong and impassioned following – and that’s something Fox will be keen to foster as the comic book preps to jump onto the big screen.
In fact, TheWrap notes that Lumberjanes is considered a priority at the studio, which was first pitched via Kira Goldberg and Emma Watts. As the adaptation began to develop,...

Brad Peyton will be directing Malignant Man, for producer James Wan...
San Andreas director Brad Peyton will be taking on disasters of a more supernatural kind for his new project. He'll be teaming up with James Wan to co-direct Malignant Man, the Boom! Studios graphic novel about a cancer-patient-turned-mutant-hero which Wan co-wrote and Fox is adapting to film.
Malignant Man is the story of terminal cancer patient Alex Gates, who believes that a malignant tumor is gnawing away at what days he has left until he finds out the even more ghastly truth. What he thought was a tumor is actually an alien parasite that has been unknowingly giving Gates a transfusion of paranormal powers.
Not unlike like the genetically engineered spiders that bite Peter Parker and turn him into a web-slinging superhuman, the alien bloodsucker mutates Gates into something of a hybrid hero with a new lease on life. He is assigned to fight an evil army creeping under the skin of society, as he slowly unravels secrets about his path that lead to the truth about what seems to be a symbiotic connection between him and the parasite.
Wan, who has just come off the second installments of The Conjuring and Insidious, will be producing Malignant Man under his Atomic Monster label. Executive producing with Wan are Peyton and his partner Jeff Fierson, with Boom! Studios’ Adam Yoelin, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie co-producing and Matt Reilly and Ryan Jones overseeing for Fox.
Zak Olkewicz drafted the screenplay. We wait to see just where the film will land on Peyton's busy slate, given that he's also got Rampage, Journey 3 and San Andreas 2 in various stages of development.
Meanwhile, Boom! has been revving up several of its smash graphic novels to take the leap from printed page to big screen. Irredeemable, has just snagged director Adam McKay, and The Empty Man is currently in preproduction.
No release date for Malignant Man has been released yet since it is still in development, but the prognosis looks positive.

Coming off The Big Short and Ant-Man, Adam McKay is now directing an adaptation of Mark Waid's Irredeemable!
Last year, Adam McKay made The Big Short, one of the best films of 2015 and a dizzyingly complex comedy-drama-turned tragedy about the 2000s housing market crash. It snagged McKay an Oscar too, for Best Adapted Screenplay. Having also written the final draft for Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man, many expected his next film might be of the superhero variety. And yes it is, but not in the way you may expect.
Representing McKay stepping away, at least for the time being, from Marvel, he's partnering with 20th Century Fox to make a superhero movie with nary a mutant or X-Man in sight. Indeed, pulling from Boom! Comics, Fox is looking to diversify its masked men portfolio with an entirely separate superhero franchise based around the Irredeemable comic series.

Magnolia Pictures will take thriller The Two Faces Of January starring Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac to an initial half-dozen locations in the wake of its VOD release late last month and CBS Films is targeting the same number of runs for its Cannes ’14 feature Pride. Factory 25 is opening its art meets goth-rap thriller Hellaware and Cinema Libre will debut a former Swiss foreign-language Oscar contender The Little Bedroom in exclusive New York runs. Three years ago James Wan created a graphic novel called Malignant Man, which he's now getting set to bring to life on the big screen. Read on for the scoop!
Per Deadline, Fox has acquired the rights to the graphic novel with Wan attached to develop the adaptation. Though nothing is 100% confirmed, it looks like he may also find himself in the director's chair once he's done with Fast & Furious 7.
Malignant Man focuses on Alan Gates, a cancer patient with a terminal diagnosis who is resigned to his fate until he discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious parasite. Granted a second lease on life and incredible, otherworldly powers, Alan must fight against an evil army buried beneath society’s skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past.
Wan will produce with Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for Fox-based production shingle Boom! with Adam Yoelin co-producing.
