1968's "Planet of the Apes" is one of the most legendary sci-fi movies in cinematic history. Co-written by Rod Serling of "The Twilight Zone" fame and directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, it spawned a franchise that is still going strong to this day.
It all started, however, with the story of astronauts landing on a mysterious planet filled with intelligent apes, only to discover that they were actually on Earth in the distant future. Led by Charlton Heston, the film boasted an incredible cast — not to mention some legendary practical makeup effects that helped bring the apes to life. Unfortunately, when a film is more than 50 years old, not many people from the cast are going to be around any longer. Luckily, a couple of key cast members are indeed still here to help keep the legacy alive.

A newThe Big Bang Theory book reveals the actors who almost took Kaley Cuoco’s place in the series.
It was previously revealed that Cuoco originally tried out for the role of a character named Katie, who would have been worlds away from Penny. Cuoco did not get the role.
Speaking in Jessica Radloff’s book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, Cuoco said: “I know Chuck [Lorre, the show’s co-creator] really wanted me for the role of Katie, and I was definitely bummed when I didn’t get it,” Cuoco told Radloff.
The book reveals that four actors almost won the role instead: Marisa Tomei, Tara Reid, Elizabeth Berkeley and Jodi Lynn O’Keefe.
Co=creator Bill Prady said that Berkeley especially had a ”terrific” audition, but it was O’Keefe who won the role. However, she got fired 30 minutes after the first table read with the cast.

Plugged in The Big Bang Theory fans know the tales of the original pilot. Things were different. Penny wasn't there, but Katie, played by Amanda Walsh, was. Turns out Kaley Cuoco, who went on to play Penny, originally auditioned for the female lead role. "In the first pilot, the character of Penny [originally named Katie] was not as appealing as that proverbial girl next door. It was not the actress [Amanda Walsh] but rather the conceit of the character," Peter Roth, president and chief content officer at Warner Bros. Television Group, told TV Insider. "Fortunately, Nina Tassler, then-president of CBS Entertainment, realized we had something very special and said, 'Let's do it again.'" ...

Just to give this a bit of perspective, The Big Bang Theory — the hit sitcom that celebrates all things nerdy and has proven that the geek shall inherit the Earth (if they haven't already) — is currently 254 episodes into what is so far an 11 season run. But at the time that Kaley Cuoco, Penny herself, sat down with me to talk about the show, only eight episodes had aired. Despite that, the series had already begun connecting with the audience, and made stars of Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper), Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), Kunal Nayyar (Raj Koothrappali), and, of course, Kaley (who had already scored TV hits with 8 Simple Rules... for Dating My Teenage Daughter and Charmed). (Photo Credit: Getty Images) The sense that I got from her is that she was having a great time, already recognizing that they had something special there, and this was in the days...

The first season of BBC America's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency earned pretty low ratings, but that's generally true of shows on this little cable channel. The thing is, these series often originate in UK, or are international co-productions of some sort. In the case of this show, Netflix distributes it outside the Us, so their continue interest comes into play where cancellations or renewals are concerned. So, will Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. Loosely based on the Douglas Adams novels, the Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency TV show stars Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, Jade Eshete, Hannah Marks, Mpho Koaho, Fiona Dourif, Dustin Milligan, John Hannah, Amanda Walsh, Michael Eklund, Osric Chau, Viv Leacock, Zak Santiago, Tyler Labine, Izzie Steele, Alan Tudyk, Alexia Fast, Agam Darshi, and Aleks Paunovic. [Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the Season 2 premiere of “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” titled “Space Rabbit.”]
“How did I forget how annoying you are?” asks Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) in the trailer for BBC America’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” It’s a familiar feeling for viewers reentering the world Max Landis adapted from Douglas Adams’ source material because just as with last year, this season is not content to unspool a story quietly, logically, or with any sort of restraint.
The overstuffed episode checks back in with eight returning characters (yes, we’re also counting Rowdy 3 member Vogel and the dog Rapunzel), and introduces at least eight more. Despite that surfeit of players, we have yet to even meet Alan Tudyk, who joins this year as the gun-happy Mr. Priest.

The Season 2 trailer, which BBC America released on Wednesday, reveals that Dirk (Samuel Barnett) and his pal Todd (Elijah Wood) will be reunited by the law. Meanwhile, Todd’s sister Amanda (Hannah Marks) appears to have figured out how things are connecting also. 2017-08-22T12:12:46-07:00Think You Know Everything About 'Big Bang' Theory? Bet You Don't Know This
Since 2007 nerds all over the world have been rejoicing over the sitcom hilarity that is The Big Bang Theory. I used to think that the show was a major exaggeration, but as I've gotten older I've come to realize that there are in fact people out there who have Sheldon Cooper tendencies. You know those people who just can't help but correct someone about something that is completely arbitrary? Those people who simply can't go through a conversation without turning it into a lecture? Those people who are so insanely neurotic that it's comical? They make life interesting, and I'd like to thank them for that.
But even though the show is a major commercial success, the stuff that has happened behind the scenes aren't so colorful. Check it out.

How did you go about taking something like Dirk, [from] Douglas Adams, which to me feels quintessentially British, and then making it something that will work on BBC America and all around the world?

Et has some behind the scenes tidbits from TV's top rated comedy!
Our favorite gang of scientific nerds is back for season 8 and Et has some behind the scenes tidbits from TV's top rated comedy! Here are six things you probably didn't know about The Big Bang Theory.
6. Origins of "Bazinga" (Hint: It involves a grapefruit!)
Sheldon's trademark catchphrase originated with show writer Stephen Engel who would set up a recurring practical joke that involved taping a hallowed out grapefruit back together.
"I'd open it up and [he] would say 'Bazinga," exexcutive producer Bill Prady recalled. "It was Stephen's word for gotcha." It caught on so much that not only did they put it in the show but Bazinga has officially been dubbed a species of bee.

Michael Gaston has joined the cast of Damon Lindelof’s HBO drama pilot The Leftovers, directed by Peter Berg. Co-written by Lindelof and Tom Perrotta based on Perrotta’s book, the project takes place after the Rapture happens but not quite like it’s supposed to. It is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut… and a world that will never be the same. Gaston, repped by Apa and Sanders Armstrong Caserta Management, will play Dean, a man who seems to understand that times have changed and addresses it head-on — often violently. He has recurred on Mad Men, The Mentalist and Damages. Amanda Walsh, Steve Burg, Rebecca Drysdale and Brad Morris star in Fox’s Wtf America, a preliminary presentation for a hybrid scripted/unscripted project with a bit of reality from Dan Maser, Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV. Back in 2008, we posted episodes of Joni & Susanna, the WB web series written by and starring real life BFFs Joni Lefkowitz and Susana Fogel. After that introduction, the two have moved on to work on several projects together, including the upcoming ABC Family series Chasing Life and the play-turned-film Life Partners, which has had some exciting developments since we last spoke with Joni in 2011.
Two years ago, Amanda Walsh and Shannon Woodward starred in the stage version of Life Partners. From our review:
In the opening scene the two are at a pride parade, where Paige (not a lesbian) drunkenly declares that she will not get married until Sasha can too. This is all hypothetical of course, as neither woman is in a relationship. Years pass and Paige falls in love with a man. When he pops the question she says "yes,...

Todd Strauss-Schulson, the director of Harold and Kumar 3D, released an online short, The Master Cleanse. With its clever tagline, "shit's about to get real," The Master Cleanse features a couple whose relationship faces the ultimate test as the pair embarks on a juice cleanse weight loss diet. The project stars Will Greenberg and Amanda Walsh as the couple Scott and Kelly, along with Duncan Trussell, Lindsay Hollister, James Kirkland, Niki Schwartz-Wright, Mhairi Steenbock, and Kana Mayham. Watch out for the surprise twist ending! "The exercise of making The Master Cleanse was to see if we could make a short and strip away all of our tricks; no action, no chase scenes, no fancy angles, or violence, and see if two people talking about universal relationship problems could be as compelling as an all girls high octane pillow fight," Strauss-Shulson told Tubefilter. "In a way it was a filmmaking master cleanse for us.

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

Different movies offer different takes on true love, its value, and how it’s found. Those tenets form the underlying basis of pretty much every romantic comedy ever made, and that holds true even if they’re made-for-tv movies. Beauty & the Briefcase has some troubling views on love and offers up a jumbled message about compromising your ideals, following through on a task, and overall priorities in life. It starts with Lane (Hilary Duff) walking through the busy New York streets scoping out men and assigning them to various categories according to looks, behavior, and quality as potential mates. Right from the start the message seems to be that side of American culture that encourages women to focus more on romance than their professional lives.
As a fledgling writer whose biggest break was a recently published article in a semi-national female style magazine, Lane is thirsty for larger things, and...

Two of Brennan's itinerant, maligned "squinterns" on Bones will soon find themselves exploring new job possibilities - in real life. Carla Gallo, who plays Daisy Wick, and Ryan Cartwright, who plays Vincent Nigel-Murray, have both been cast in upcoming series.
Cartwright's new show, Alphas, was just picked up by SyFy. The show, with David Strathairn as the lead, will follow "ordinary" people who have extraordinary abilities.
Maybe he'll retain massive amounts of useless trivia?

We may also be saying farewell to the adorable Daisy. Carla Gallo's new part will be in a CW pilot entitled Danni Lowinski, in which she will co-star with Amanda Walsh.

If ever there were a time to give Anna Torv and/or John Noble an Emmy nod, this season is it. Especially this episode. Torv has steadily astounded me this season with her portrayal of Olivia, and in this episode, she nearly brings me to tears. A guy bumps into a strange grey haired man at a train station, and by the time he makes it back to his house, he collapses. When he wakes up, the same grey haired man is standing over him, and he's strapped to a slab. There is blood everywhere. The grey haired man apologizes, and says, "it wasn't yours" and injects him with a serum. The man on the table appears to die. When paramedics arrive later, they find him with his heart cut out. But when the medic touches the man, he jolts back to life...effectively scaring the crap out of me and everyone else.

This week’s episode of Fringe really tore at the heartstrings - in more ways than one. By the end, the divide between Olivia and Peter may be greater than ever, even now that they’re both in the same world.
The episode begins with the extended death of a Mr. Russo, of Rye, New York. The hapless Mr. Russo steps out of a train, where he is immediately followed by Roland David Barrett, a dapper fellow dressed to the nines, complete with an old-fashioned umbrella.
Making like a contemporary Cobblepot, Barrett pricks Russo with the tip of his umbrella. By the time Russo arrives home in Rye, he is visibly ill and passes out. When he wakes, he is strapped to an operating table and covered in blood.
He hears Barrett calling 911 and alerting them to his location. Barrett then apologizes to Russo, telling him "there was no other way,...

Here's your Big Bang Theory trivia of the day: Long before Kaley Cuoco joined the CBS sitcom as Leonard and Sheldon's ditzy neighbor Penny, Chuck Lorre shot a pilot with unknown Canadian actress/VJ Amanda Walsh as his female lead. Walsh and her character -- a street smart gal with a sensitive core -- were both scrapped by Lorre after CBS rejected the pilot. Now, thanks to the wonder of the internet, that original episode (that even Lorre said "sucked") is available for your viewing pleasure.
