Bobbi Kristina Brown spent her final moments on Sunday surrounded by close family members in prayer, with music by her late mother Whitney Houston playing in the background. Before she died, her father Bobby Brown, Pat Houston, Pat’s brother Ray Watson and her sister-in-law Donna Houston, Gary Houston, conservator Bedelia C. Hargrove and other family members joined together in prayer at the Atlanta, Georgia, hospice. They then sang hymns together following the 22-year-old’s death. As they waited for a minister to arrive, they read together from the Bible, specifically from Psalms 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want,...

In the end, it was the bodyguard who said what we all needed to hear—no, not her “Bodyguard” co-star Kevin Costner—but her real-life bodyguard of 11 years, Ray Watson. As I watched Whitney Houston’s nearly four-hour funeral beamed from Newark’s New Hope Baptist Church, and listened to moving speech after moving speech — all of them heartfelt in their own ways, some more poignant than others—it was Watson’s words that resonated the most. Unlike some of the speakers, Watson had been with Houston virtually every day for 11 years until she died on Feb. 11 and he saw a side of...

Confirming reports she would be laid to rest in the city where she first sang, the body of Whitney Houston arrived in Newark, N.J., just before midnight on Monday. The late singer's body was flown from Los Angeles via a plane owned by actor-producer Tyler Perry, Reuters reports. Security was tight at the Teterboro, N.J., airport, where a gold hearse left the airport heading to the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark. About 50 fans mourning the death of 48-year-old Houston, who was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton suite on Saturday, sung along to some of her...

Whitney Houston’s death brought tears to our eyes on Saturday, and we only know her through the radio. It’s completely understandable, then, that those closest to her are taking the news much harder; daughter Bobbi Kristina in particular is allegedly struggling with the news. “My daughter did visit with doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” dad Bobby Brown said in a statement this afternoon. “She has been released and is presently with my family including her siblings.” Bobbi Kristina was allegedly rushed to the hospital both Saturday night, and Sunday morning following news of her mother’s death. Said Brown, “Obviously the death of her mother is affecting her. However we will get through this tragedy as a family.”
While her father offered scant explanation for Bobbi’s multiple emergencies, another relative was more willing to fill in the blanks. “Everything [was] stressful,” Billy Watson, brother of...

Here we are. The day has finally wrapped up of what could be called a fantastic start to the 2011 D23 Expo. When I arrived at the Expo at 8am, already hundreds upon hundreds of fans and press alike were gathered outside of the convention center. The line for D23 members wrapped around much of the arena, stretching at least a few thousand feet. Although somewhat disorganized and chaotic, the spirits were high. I spotted a number of attendees dressed up as characters, including an incredible Cruella DeVil. I just hoped the lines wouldn’t bother her, or else she may have taken her frustration out on the service dog, alongside a guest just feet away.
By 9am, D23 members and their family/friends could enter the Anaheim Convention Center. Many headed straight for the Arena queue area, which would be presenting the first major event at 11am: The Disney Legends Ceremony.

The Avengers might not be coming [1] to San Diego Comic-Con, but it certainly seems like they'll be up the street a month later. In June, Marvel Studios announced that they would not [2] be having a panel in Hall H at Comic Con 2011, which was a bummer as their unveiling of The Avengers at Comic Con 2010 was one of the highlights [3]. Director Joss Whedon and his all-star cast have been in production for several weeks now so, it would be easy for them to show something to comic fans of the world come July. However, Disney, who now owns Marvel, has their own version of Comic-Con just one month later so instead of bringing The Avengers to San Diego (though they are reportedly planning some kind of massive viral campaign [4]for the event) it looks like that's where the action will be. Disney just announced that the head of Marvel Studios,...

Disney has announced the arena schedule for D23 Expo 2011, which will include presentations by Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar and of course Marvel Studios. I imagine that this is the place where Disney and Marvel will go all out on showing off stuff from Joss Whedon's The Avengers. This looks like it will be a great event to attend. I've never been to this Disney fan event, but I'm hoping to hit it up this year.
