- Ra Vincent is a Production Designer and Set Decorator working in and out of New Zealand. Nominated for an Oscar in 2013 as set decorator for his work on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Ra has had his work added to the Academy Library and published in the companion books: The Art Of The Hobbit. With his various skills Ra involves himself in every aspect of the design process, from creating conceptual art to set design and set decoration. - [on re-creating Nazi Germany for Jojo Rabbit (2019)] Most of the people you talk to have a couple of generational stories that they would tell when swastikas would be flying on those flag poles and now they're back again. It's actually not as taboo a subject as you might think in Germany or the Czech Republic. It is part of something that people just refuse to forget about. It's not something to be covered up, it's something to be remembered and made sure that the next generation of young people understand the sheer enormity of what went on in the Second World War. The opportunity for dialogue was great for the aesthetics, but it also gave us legitimacy with what we were doing. [Jan. 2020]
