The Washington Post Opinions section will distribute the animated short How to Rig An Election: The Racist History of the 1876 Presidential Contest, which recently premiered at the SXSW Festival in Austin.
Tom Hanks narrates the project, which was written and produced by Jeffery Robinson, founder of the Who We Are Project and former ACLU deputy legal director. It’s directed by Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler and was animated by Reginald William Butler
The project is the story of the 1876 presidential election between Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and Republican Samuel Tilden, which was ultimately decided in a backroom deal that effectively ended Reconstruction in the South. Hanks and Robinson will publish an op-ed accompanying the film when it launches on April 3 in the Post’s Opinion section. They also will appear on Washington Post Live for an interview on April 6, moderated by Post Opinions’ Kate Woodsome. Register here.

Anthony Fauci said that when he was approached by the National Portrait Gallery of an “unusual person” they suggested to create his portrait, “not only was I not reluctant about it, I got very excited about it.”
The result, a five-minute stop-motion drawing animation of Fauci’s career, is perhaps the most unconventional of all of the portraits at the center of the Smithsonian gallery’s biennial Portrait of a Nation Gala on Saturday, an event that nearly rivals the Kennedy Center Honors for drawing Beltway insiders, billionaires and celebrity.

Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Alicia Keys has contributed songs to dozens of soundtracks including “The Great Gatsby,” “Muscle Shoals,” “Quantum of Solace” and “Drumline.” But Mira Nair’s “Queen of Katwe,” which features a Keys original, “Back to Life,” was a different kind of project.
Keys first discovered the true story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi (portrayed by Madina Nalwanga in her debut) “by a little twist of fate” in 2011, when Tim Crothers’ remarkable feature story on the budding prodigy was published by Espn’s magazine (a year later, Crothers published the book “The Queen of Katwe,” on which Nair’s film is based).
Producing partner Jeff Robinson gave the article to Keys, in hopes that they could develop it under their Big Pita, Little Pita Productions banner. While that didn’t ultimately pan out, Keys could never quite shake Mutesi’s story.

I asked him 'Why would anyone think that?' It was so shocking." Martin MacNeill, a once-respected medical doctor and lawyer, is on trial for the first-degree murder of his wife of almost 30 years, Michele. Arrow, Season 1, Episode 4: “Damaged”
Directed by Michael Schultz
Written by Wendy Mericle and Ben Sokolowsi
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm Et on The CW
This week on Arrow, Ollie (Stephen Amell) goes on trial for his vigilante actions and asks Laurel (Katie Cassidy) to represent him as his attorney and prove his innocence. Meanwhile Walter confronts Moira about her secrets. Among other things, this week’s episode offered more island flashbacks and a famous DC villain, the master assassin Deathstroke ( Slade Wilson), makes his first official appearance.
The best part of the episode was Oliver’s time spent on the island. We learn a great deal about how Oliver acquired his scars and we now know his mentor is a wanted man, on the run from the mysterious Edward Fyers. The series has already introduced quite a number of villains in the fold, but Deathstroke is an important step forward...

Arrow's secret identity won't be a secret for much longer. A new report suggests that Oliver Queen's crime-fighting alter-ego is about to get outed for at least one of his fellow Starling City residents in next week's Halloween-debuting episode, "An Innocent Man."

Last night's episode of Arrow showed us that Oliver most definitely wasn't alone on the island. In one of the final scenes, we saw him burying his father and - moments later - being shot by an arrow. An arrow that came from a man wearing a costume similar to Oliver's present day Arrow outfit.
A commenter on my recent Arrow recap said that they think Deathstroke was the man on the island. As it turns out, they were partly right. According to The CW, in the upcoming fifth episode we'll see that Deathstroke was on the island with the marooned billionaire: "After Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) arrests Oliver (Stephen Amell) for murder, Oliver tells Moira (Susanna Thompson) the only lawyer he'll allow to represent him is Laurel (Katie Cassidy). Enjoying Arrow so far? The show has been getting quite the feedback from the Cbm community. A certain staple in the series is introducing fellow heroes and villains from the DC Universe. As of late, the most popular & most anticipated of these is Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke. Fans will recognize that Deathstroke's iconic mask was featured in a teaser months ago as well as the pilot of the series. Earlier today, The CW released a full description on the series' 5th episode entitled "Damages", where viewers will finally see Deathstroke (played by Jeffrey Robinson) in action! Way back in June we told you to look out for Deathstroke after seeing an initial Arrow tv teaser, and now, via IGN, you can see him in his full glory. Who is Deathstroke? Like I told you before, he’s a pretty significant and badass villain in DC Comics, part of classic runs in books like Teen Titans (which was DC’s equivalent to X-men back in the 80s when both were Huge sellers) and making sweet appearances where he handles just about every Superhero you know (and many you may not) – at least for a minute – in Identity Crisis. I think the image is pretty hard.

If this new highlight reel is any indication, "Arrow" is definitely going to have his hands full this season. Deathstroke (Jeffrey Robinson), China White (Kelly Hu), Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and Huntress (Jessica De Gouw) are four of the villains featured in this just-released promo for the new CW series, which debuted at the show's New York Comic-Con panel on Sunday. "Every last one of them will wish I had died on that island," declares the title hero (Stephen Amell) in voiceover at one point. It's a statement that no doubt bodes poorly for Starling City's criminal element. In any event, the...

The show centers on ‘Christopher Chance’, who’s a unique private contractor, bodyguard and security expert. The show also stars Chi McBride and his business partner and Jackie Earle Hailey as his hired gun.
I talked with Mark in a conference call where he spoke about the show, how he got into acting and working with his fantastic co-stars.

hollywoodnews.com: Alicia Keys’ new fiance Swizz Beatz appears to already be getting involved in her career. The pregnant songstress has revealed that she has dumped her manager Jeff Robinson – and insiders say it was Swizz who persuaded her.
“Swizz definitely played a huge part in killing him off,” an industry insider told Page Six. Robinson had been charging the pop star a 25 per cent commission for some time.
When she was an undiscovered, he was paid even more, up to 33 per cent, Page Six’s source insists. “She got smart – and got a smart boyfriend – after years of people around her telling her she was crazy to let this continue to happen,” the source added. The official announcement states: “Keys and Robinson have mutually and amicably agreed to pursue other opportunities.

Looking to change things up a bit, Alicia Keys has sent her manager Jeff Robinson packing after working with him for over a decade.
The “Fallin” songstress announced this past Friday that she and Robinson would be parting ways and that she’ll be overseeing her career herself.
Alicia has been less than impressed with the performance of her latest album The Element of Freedom, as it has sold just 1.4 million copies (less than half of her previous effort As I Am).
Now Ms. Keys will be entrusting her career direction to her own company Ak Worldwide in hopes of boosting her brand.
