Judging by Priscilla Presley’s recollections, Elvis Presley was more interested in books about spirituality than any other topic. During a trying time, he looked for answers in a book by a famous occultist. Priscilla discussed what Elvis’ taste in literature said about him as a person.
Elvis Presley was interested in a certain book a few months before he died
In her 1985 book Elvis and Me, Priscilla recalled a near the end of the “All Shook Up” singer‘s life. “In April 1977, Elvis fell ill and had to cancel his tour and return home to Graceland,” Priscilla wrote. “Lisa [Marie] and I were there visiting Dodger [Elvis’ grandmother]. He called me up to his room.
“[Elvis] did not look himself; his face and body were bloated,” she continued. “He was wearing pajamas, which he seemed to prefer these days when at home. He held Cheiro’s Book of Numbers and told me there...

What do you get when you have a series with a trio featuring a half-oni/half-human, an immortal severed head in a bird cage, and a tough-as-nails maid that can beat up just about anyone? You get a really fun show in Undead Murder Farce , but also a series that has style for days. Even on its own with just the story and mysteries it tells, Undead Murder Farce would still probably be one of my favorite shows of the last year. The stylistic decisions with regard to shot composition, character and environmental design, scene transitions, music, and generally how it looks — amongst other aspects — elevate the show to becoming not only more fun to watch, but something that’s pretty special as well. One of the first things you’ll notice when watching episodes or even just seeing screenshots is that character design was an important aspect of the overall production.

This is it. The season two finale of the HBO Original Series “30 Coins” arrives on Monday, December 11, concluding a season long, high stakes battle between our heroes and ruthless enemies led by sycophant billionaire Christian Barbrow (Paul Giamatti).
Expect things to get wild as hell.
Directed and co-written by Álex de la Iglesia, along with co-writer Jorge Guerricaechevarría, Max’s “30 Coins” takes viewers into a world where nothing is as it seems, and nobody can be trusted. Bloody Disgusting spoke with de la Iglesia about Season 2 last month, where the horror filmmaker touched on his overarching plans for the series as well as casting acclaimed actor Paul Giamatti in the role of this season’s terrifying villain.
This week, Bloody Disgusting caught up with Giamatti to find out how he came to play Christian Barbrow, the inspiration behind the character, and his love of horror.

Jack Black celebrated the 100 birthday of Tom Morello’s mom Mary with the gift of song. The actor-musician joined a band of ridiculously talented 12 and 13 year olds to perform the Ozzy Osbourne classic “Mr. Crowley” during a birthday party for the centenarian.
Tom shared video of the performance on his Instagram account on Tuesday (October 3rd), writing, “Mary Morello’s 100th bday celebration featured a stirring rendition of @ozzyosbourne & #RandyRhoads ‘Mr. Crowley’ performed by @jackblack and a kick ass band of 12 & 13 year olds! Mary was pleased!”
Black performing an Ozzy song about the notorious British occultist Aleister Crowley for the 100th birthday of the mother of Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist is truly a wild thought, but then again, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Tenacious D singer.

Everyone knows the definition of a tribute band. But is there a difference between that and a “revival” band? Whatever one chooses to call it, when is such a project a money-making exercise in nostalgia — and when is it a sincere, concerted (pun intended) effort to recreate and sustain a genre of music that suddenly feels on life support? And exactly how short were those sleeves on Jimmy Page’s open-chested jacket from 1973?
These and other questions are addressed and grappled with in Mr. Jimmy, Peter Michael Dowd’s weirdly...

The Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band features numerous famous people on the cover. One movie star is featured on the album three times. During one of those appearances, she’s depicted as a doll.
A movie star is on The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’ 3 times and 1 time she’s barely visible
The cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper includes people from many fields. For example, it includes authors like Karl Marx and Oscar Wilde, musicians like Bob Dylan and Dion Dimucci, and religious leaders like Aleister Crowley and Paramahansa Yogananda.
Despite this, Hollywood stars make up a huge portion of the people on the album. Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, W. C. Fields, Laurel and Hardy, Bette Davis, Tyrone Power, and Marlene Dietrich are all there. According to Goldmine, child star Shirley Temple is on Sgt. Pepper three times. Each appearance is very different from the last.

Ringo Starr joined a wild ride when the Beatles added him to their roster. The drummer seemed to be the key to unlocking the band’s potential as they climbed to the top of the charts in England within nine months. The Beatles were rarely upstaged after that, and Ringo proved his worth when he came up big one of the greatest Fab Four songs. Yet some older entertainers weren’t ready to cede the spotlight in the early 1960s. That included actor Marlene Dietrich. She shared a bill with and tried to grab the spotlight from The Beatles, but Ringo found the upside of sharing a bill with her.

Nothing is perfect in life, but then life isn’t meant to be enjoyed. It is meant to be lived. And although it has its flaws, we need to make the most of the good moments rather than complain about the bad ones. The same is what we have to do with Studio 666. Granted, it could have been better in many ways, especially a shorter duration, but Studio 666 is better than many other movies of its genre, i.e., horror comedy, especially if you are a fan of “death” metal. It is the light-hearted quality of a horror comedy that makes analyzing it a lot of fun. In this article, I’ll try to do that. I hope you guys like it.

Jimmy Page always had a fascination with the mystical. His vignette as a mountain climber who became an ageless hermit in The Song Remains the Same movie (a segment he filmed as his property once owned by Aleister Crowley) made it public. Oh, and there was the long-lost soundtrack to the film Lucifer Rising, too. The guitarist was no stranger to magic, and Page had one specific ritual (albeit a non-magical one) he did every night during Led Zeppelin’s 1975 tour.

Anger ignited the gossip industry with the squalid tales in his book Hollywood Babylon, while his daringly erotic films fuelled the counterculture
• Kenneth Anger dies aged 96 – news
Kenneth Anger was the dark and brilliant magus of Hollywood lore; a reclusive figure who had in his own lifetime assumed the status of myth or pop-culture rumour. He was virtually the Aleister Crowley of movie legend. He was the master of underground cinema and creator of avant-gardist short films treasured by connoisseurs as equivalent in importance to those of Maya Deren and Jonas Mekas.
But unusually for a film-maker, his masterpiece was in the medium of the written word: his outrageous, scabrous and scurrilous supposed history of Tinseltown scandals: Hollywood Babylon, first published in French in 1959 as Hollywood Babylone, banned for years and only fully available in English in 1975. Jimmy Page didn’t need long to become a standout guitarist. He was an ace session player long before joining the Yardbirds or forming Led Zeppelin. He said his guitar playing improved even more thanks to Led Zeppelin. Yet when he began working on the Lucifer Rising soundtrack, Page gave up playing his guitar altogether, and it made sense.

And since it’s one of the most iconic album covers ever, millions of people have glanced at John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr over the years. But there were actually five Beatles on the Sgt. Pepper cover.

David Bowie and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page met when they were both young musicians, long before either was famous. They continued to spend time together over the years, but after a tense night together, their relationship fractured. Bowie, who grew increasingly interested in the occult, worried that Page put a curse on him and imperiled his soul.

The UK’s greatest occultist since Aleister Crowley, Alfie Hawthorne is dead. Luckily he passed his occult knowledge on to his niece Ellie. Which is just as well as there’s a gang war about to break out in London and 72 demons from the underworld are going to be in thick in the mix.
There’s shades of Hellblazer and a touch of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels which makes this an utterly great read. If you had to choose a horror title for Adlard to follow up his epic work on The Walking Dead, this would definitely be it.

In 1989, Neil Gaiman first introduced to the world Morpheus, Lord of the Dreaming, and Shaper of Form, in the epic comic book saga The Sandman. The original DC Comics and Vertigo imprint series ran until 1996, and follows Morpheus as he is trapped for 70 years through a ritual led by an Aleister Crowley-esque occultist. When he finally escapes in the late 20th Century, he sets out on a journey of vengeance, and reclamation of his realm, the Dreaming. Yet he also sets about making amends, and evolves into a kinder being.
Gaiman’s creation is often cited alongside The Dark Knight Returns, and Watchmen as amongst the best within the medium. And ever since the graphic novels changed the comic book landscape, he has tried to prevent his Dream from becoming a Hollywood nightmare.

Brett Morgen’s intimate montage of the uniquely influential artist celebrates his career, creativity and unfailing charm
Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream is a 140-minute shapeshifting epiphany-slash-freakout leading to the revelation that, yes, we’re lovers of David Bowie and that is that. It’s a glorious celebratory montage of archive material, live performance footage, Bowie’s own experimental video art and paintings, movie and stage work and interviews with various normcore TV personalities with whom Bowie is unfailingly polite, open and charming.
As a rock star, Bowie was a unique artist, aesthete, insurgent experimentalist, gender dissident and unrepentant, unselfconscious cigarette smoker. (I wonder if he ever gave that up?) Morgen includes the traditional student-poster gallery of the various icons to whom Bowie can be compared – Oscar Wilde, Buster Keaton, James Baldwin, Aleister Crowley – all perfectly allowable, but none of them quite approximate Bowie’s own sweetness and rock idealism.

The Spine of Night Directors on Horror Fiction Inspirations and the Freedom of Independent Animation
Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King’s The Spine of Night is an impassioned tribute to adult animation, dark fantasy, and truly ambitious genre epics of the type all too rarely seen on the silver screen.
“One thing is certain about The Spine of Night: this is a labor of bone-shattered, triptacular love, “I said in my review. “The new rotoscope-animated feature—a clearly adoring homage to Ralph Bakshi, Heavy Metal, and 1980s dark fantasy—was created over a span of seven years by a minuscule team of animators digitally painting frame-by-frame with the oversight of directors Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King. It’s a deathly earnest film––like George Lucas-caliber earnest––guts-filled with capital-l lore, grim violence, artful nudity, and portentous monologues––not-always-convincingly delivered by a vocal cast that includes Lucy Lawless and Patton Oswalt––that never dare consciously wink at the intrinsic camp of its culty-retro throwback venue.

Oh, John Constantine. He always has to be a tortured soul, doesn't he?
In true Legends fashion, the search for the Fountain of Imperium was not without its difficulties on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Episode 10. With it came a new development for Constantine, and we saw a different, yet familiar, side of him.
And we have a feeling that Zari will not be happy with her boyfriend's new drug of choice.
Since Constantine searched for the Fountain of Imperium, Aleister Crowley returned and told him where he stashed the map to the magical source.
But, with the map came a few bottles of an addictive and powerful potion he brewed.
Noelle: Clever.
Constantine: I'm John Constantine, love. Clever doesn't even begin to describe me.

This DC’s Legends of Tomorrow episode review contains spoilers.
Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Episode 5
In retrospect, I feel a little bit dense for taking half the episode to figure out that “The Satanist’s Apprentice” was Legends of Tomorrow’s big and hotly anticipated Disney Princess episode. I even said (to an empty room) “huh. That title sounds a lot like Fantasia.” But then Constantine and Astra’s racist, pandemic-Graham-Norton looking neighbor rolled through and I was mad enough at him to forget until the moment I realized that Astra had turned Behrad into a candlestick. And at that point…well, other stuff had set in.
About 90% of “The Satanist’s Apprentice” is an all-time classic episode of Legends of Tomorrow. But what’s keeping it from getting there, for me, is that other 10%. Half of that 10% is pretty annoying, but not a deal breaker. But the other half...

Warning: contains plot spoilers for The Irregulars episode three
Tooth fairy: not real. Baby-stealing bird man: not real. Group of middle class oddballs who dress up in ceremonial robes and practise occult rituals: surprisingly, real. While most of the supernatural cases featured in Netflix’s The Irregulars are drawn from myth and legend, one involves a real-life organisation that started life in 1887: the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
In episode three of the Sherlock Holmes-adjacent Netflix series, the Baker Street gang is enlisted by Mycroft Holmes to investigate a murder linked to the Golden Dawn, an occult organisation of which he’s a member. Bea, Jessie, Spike, Billy and Leo tip up at Mycroft’s country estate to pose as his nieces and servants and spy on his guests for the weekend – the Inner Circle of their chapter. Their previous ‘Magus’ having been murdered and his corpse staged in a Tarot-related tableau,...

The Conjuring 2 depicts the demon Valak as some horrific rendition of Cheech and Chong’s Sister Mary Elephant. But this Grand President of Hell is more cherub than dragon in the demonic hierarchy.
As the 62nd spirit in a 72-demon roster, Valak is no delinquent, although he’s been blamed for the two 1212 Children’s Crusades to the Holy Land, which resulted in thousands of teenagers from Germany and France being sold into slavery. Valak also retroactively gets the rap for the 1284 Pied Piper missing children incident in the German village of Hamelin.
The majority of what we know about Valak comes from the mid-17th century Goetic grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon, a compilation of centuries’ worth of texts. Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers translated the works for the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a late 18th-century magical order. They were published by the notorious English occultist...

This article contains spoilers for The Sinner season 3.
When planned miniseries decide to expand into traditional series, they often run the risk of rendering their titles moot. Such is the case with USA Network’s detective drama The Sinner. When it opted to move past its novel inspiration’s premise to tell new stories about detective Harry Ambrose, there was a real chance that the name “The Sinner” would become vestigial.
The Sinner solved this problem by making sure that all its subsequent case subjects would be as focused on sin as season 1’s Cora Tannetti (Jessica Biel). In fact, the lead character of The Sinner season 3, Jamie, might be the series’ biggest “sinner” thus far.
As effectively played by Matt Bomer, Jamie is the ultimate example of what happens when college classes on Nietzsche go wrong. In The Sinner season 3’s first episode, Jamie is a seemingly normal (if unusually hot) individual.

It also starred Rupert Friend, Bella Heathcote, Peter Mark Kendall, Michael Gaston, Greg Wise, Rade Šerbedžija, Zack Pearlman and Keye Chen.

CBS All Access is parting ways with Strange Angel.

Hammer’s key Satanic Mass epic comes to Blu-ray in a terrific improved transfer. Christopher Lee’s pitched battle with Charles Gray’s necromancer Mocata has long been a favorite of fans of symbolist rituals with candles, magic circles, Christian icons, etc. We’re happy to report that after all the monstrous demons and human sacrifices, good prevails through the agency of an ordinary housewife, who can sling a Latin incantation faster than you can say ‘The Goat of Mendes.’ This is yet another big-deal Hammer disc for 2019 — we also get a look at the earlier Blu-ray with its revised special effects.

When Ozzy Osbourne launched his solo career with his 1980 debut album Blizzard of Ozz, he didn’t have the same support he had as a member of Black Sabbath. “That was in a warehouse in London,” Osbourne says of the album sleeve featuring him in a cape holding a cross with skull on the ground and a black cat behind him. “Because of funds, we had to do it ourselves. I think the cat was just there.” Then, with a laugh, he references one of the record’s more gothic songs,...

The Mystical Journey of Jimmy Page’s 59 Telecaster shows the root Led Zeppelin's musical alchemy.
Jimmy Page brought a special magic to Led Zeppelin. Or so it's been charged. Page studied the works of Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn founder Aleister Crowley as well as sacred geometry and the Sacred Book of Abramelin. But the biggest magic wand the former session man wielded was the mystical Telecaster guitar, vintage: 1959. In the tradition of blues legend Robert Johnson, this 1959 Fender Telecaster was given to him by Jeff Beck, who passed it on as he passed on his gig with The Yardbirds. Beck delivered the guitar in a Blue Corvette Stingray. Page practiced backwards masking, and Fender is paying it forward in the Jimmy Page Mirror Telecaster.
Modeled after the famous guitar Page plucked, strummed and bowed, Fender dropped the guitar as part of the Led Zeppelin 50th anniversary celebration.

Strange Angel has found its Aleister Crowley. Turn alum Angus Macfadyen has been tapped to play the founder of Thelema opposite Jack Reynor in the second season of the CBS All Access series.
Created by Mark Heyman and based on George Pendle’s book of the same name, Strange Angel explores the bizarre true story of Jack Parsons, a man who straddled the worlds of science and the occult, pioneering America’s rocketry program while simultaneously practicing sex magick rituals and living by the creed “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”
At the conclusion of Season 1, Jack and his team from Caltech make a scientific breakthrough that secures the military’s interest as the country nears the brink of war. In season two, the U.S. is fully engaged in World War II, transforming Jack’s rocketry work into a lucrative business and further entrenching him in the military-industrial complex.

There are a number of questions that pop up throughout the first season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Like, for instance, just how big is Sabrina's collection of headbands? And where might one find a cigarette fork like Aunt Zelda's? Also, how come Father Blackwood's nails are longer and healthier than mine will ever be? While those questions will likely go unanswered - I'll just have to assume Father Blackwood eats a lot of arugula - there is another mystery that was eating at me throughout the entirety of season one of the spooky new Netflix series: why can't Ambrose leave the Spellmans' home?
It's made clear earlier on that Ambrose is on permanent house arrest in the funeral home, as well as its front- and backyard. It's not until the back half of the season, when Ambrose's frustration at being stuck inside all the time because of his new relationship with a cute warlock,...
