Coming from the land of Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray, it was quite evident that eventually this 36 year old Supply Chain Manager of a cutthroat corporate arena of the TATA industries, will take up his pen to write down a screenplay, will take up the lens to see the world of cinema from his own perspective. And so it happened with Debajyoti Mitra. Graduating from the prestigious Jadavpur University with an engineering degree, and grabbing an MBA never stopped him from shining his writing skills or his love for photography, which ultimately landed him being selected in the top 100 moviemakers in the Indian Film Project in 2014. Besides thriving in a corporate life, Mitra continues to nurture his sensibilities in the forms of Poetries, Fictions and Photography. An artist at heart, Mitra's writings have been appreciated and published in leading Bengali magazines as well as reputed webzines before. From the days of his college life, his stories have captured a vast spectrum of human emotions and his poetries have spoken the unheard words of ecstasies and melancholies.
The Film Maker in Mitra was born quite early in his childhood as he grew up watching the works of Satyajit Ray, Rittwick Ghatak and many more. Being a story teller all along his life, smitten with a sincere interest in arts and a refined taste of world cinema, Mitra has already completed 4 short films with his team of friends. Mitra's works bear his trademark sharpness in dialogue writing and the quintessential ease of a Bengali life. In the midst of technically charged cinemas, Mitra's films bring an unique freshness of the simple things of life and the interpersonal relations between people in a very non dramatic yet sensible way. Mitra has shown steady upliftment of quality of work from his amateurish days to the latest of his movies.
His recent directorial venture Saltaamami (December Diaries) has been accorded a number of awards in various national and inter national film festivals.
