One singer said recently said she was quitting as she wanted to go home to her kids and she didn’t think she was going to win anyways. Another singer said she didn’t think she was able to give 100 percent, so she decided to just leave the show.

Any competition must have rules, and American Idol is no exception. From the time contestants audition all the way to the season finale, they must agree to and adhere to a set of rules in order to keep things fair and avoid controversy (although American Idol has had its share of controversies over the years). A handful of contestants have been disqualified in the past for breaking these rules. Here are some examples.
Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Iam Tongi on ‘American Idol’ | Eric McCandless/ABC ‘American Idol’ contestants must be within the age limits
The minimum and maximum age requirements on American Idol have changed over the years. Idol used to be open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 24. Then, the age range opened up, so anyone between 15 and 28 years old could audition.

It seems the nearly never-ending battle between Corey Clark and "American Idol" took quite a toll on the Season 1 finalist.
In a new interview with RumorFix, Clark admits that the 10-year-long legal battle over his 2003 disqualification from the hit Fox reality show for allegedly lying about a domestic violence arrest led to the singer making an attempt on his own life.
"I've had some really bad moments," he reveals. "The whole purpose of me even talking about anything was because I was being blacklisted and being oppressed behind the scenes and people weren't looking at it. That really depressed me. I attempted suicide back in 2006 and they had to revive me."
Clark says he tried to hang himself while in jail.

"X Factor" judge and mentor Kelly Rowland appeared on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" Monday (Dec. 16), where she talked about, among other things, the "X Factor" policy on dating contestants -- which was apparently made very clear right from the get-go.

Perhaps the "X Factor" producers were remembering back to the days of the "American Idol" scandal with Paula Abdul and Corey Clark. No fraternization now.

Mariah Carey isn’t upset that things got heated between Nicki Minaj and her on the set of "American Idol," but she is upset that a tape of the incident was leaked to the media.
“Mariah has been in the business for a long time and has seen it all but never has she had anything leaked from a closed set,” a friend of Carey said. “The fact that the producers are not searching to find out how this footage and audio got leaked tells you who was behind it.”
The shocking footage comes from auditions in Charlotte, N.C, on a private set on which only authorized personnel were allowed. Security around the taping of "Idol" has been high since the show debuted, and contestants are asked to sign confidentiality agreements.

Corey Clark isn't suing American Idol for kicking him off the show in 2003, but he's taking MTV to court for their coverage of it. Clark was disqualified from season two of Idol after officials learned he'd faced three misdemeanor charges in his past—Clark was later acquitted of two of the charges. MTV News and former correspondent and "American Idol Expert" Jim Cantiello were among the media outlets covering Clark's exit from the show. E! News has obtained a lawsuit filed by Clark on July 5 in which he says MTV practiced "yellow journalism" and published "a continuous, one-sided stream of defamatory material" about him. He's now asking to be awarded a...

There’s this weird part of the week — from Friday morning till Monday evening — when not a single major TV network airs a reality singing competition. It’s terrible, I know, but it also gives me a lot of time to ponder American Idol history. (Everyone does this in their free time, yes?) And my latest flight of Idol fancy got me mulling this question: Was Season 11′s Top 10 the strongest — top to bottom — in show history? Let’s examine:
For starters, I’d automatically rule out the five seasons with three or more Top 10 contestants who probably wouldn’t have outlasted Season 11′s No.

Jermaine Jones, once a member of American Idol's Top 12, now belongs to another group. With Jones' dismissal from the show Tuesday night for his failure to disclose an arrest record, the "Gentle Giant" became the latest hopeful cut for conduct unbecoming an Idol. A look at other Dq'd finalists and semifinalists: 1. Corey Clark: Jones was just the second AI finalist to get the boot; this curly-haired crooner from season two was the first. Clark, who would later claim an affair with judge Paula Abdul, an allegation Idol''s powers-that-be ruled unfounded, was booted for not coming clean on an arrest....

Disqualified American Idol finalist Jermaine Jones was the talk of Wednesday’s episode, starting from the very top of the show when Ryan Seacrest teased the instant elimination and sudden controversy. While not exactly de rigueur as far as the Fox series is concerned, over the years, Idol had dealt with similar situations involving unresolved legal matters, going back as far as season 2 when Corey Clark was dismissed from Idol duty after it was revealed that he had a battery charge pending. It was only days after the Top 24 was announced and producers claimed at the time that

Jermaine Jones is apparently out on "American Idol."
The 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., tweeted Tuesday night that he no longer would be on the Fox singing contest.
The Hollywood Reporter said Jones tweeted, "Awww I will no longer b on the show." His Twitter account has since been deleted.
A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter or confirm his tweet.
TMZ reports Jones will be kicked off during the Wed., March 14 broadcast. He allegedly hid a criminal record -- an incident involved violence -- from producers who then confronted Jones on camera. In addition to hiding his criminal past, TMZ said Jones lied to cops by giving them fake names after arrests.
Jones reportedly has outstanding warrants.

Los Angeles (AP) -- Jermaine Jones is apparently out on "American Idol.'' The 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., tweeted Tuesday night that he no longer would be on the Fox singing contest. He wrote on his official "Idol'' Twitter account: "Awww I will no longer b on the show.'' The post and Jones' official "Idol'' Twitter account were later deleted. A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter or confirm his tweet. The so-called "gentle giant,'' as he was dubbed by "Idol'' host Ryan Seacrest, was among the show's viewer-selected top 13 finalists after the judges gave him a last-minute spot among the 11th season's top 13 male semifinalists. He was among the bottom three vote-getters last week after performing Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet'' but advanced to the group of top 12 singers. "Idol'' contestants in the past...

He was on, then off, then on and now he seems to be headed home again. The seesaw ride of "American Idol" top 12 finisher Jermaine Jones appears to have run out after producers found out this week that the deep-voiced singer apparently misled them about his criminal past.
TMZ is reporting that Jones will be let go on Wednesday night's performance broadcast after producers discovered on Tuesday that he allegedly concealed the fact that he was arrested twice last year— including once for an incident that involved violence— and has outstanding warrants. The Pine Hill, New Jersey, vocal instructor, who was brought back from elimination by the judges, also allegedly lied to police by giving them false names both times he was arrested. In a tweet that has since been deleted, Jones,...

Fox’s American Idol has got to step up its efforts for basic background checks on the contestants who make it to the live shows. This year’s Top 12 finalist Jermaine Jones is the latest to be disqualified because of pending criminal charges. According to TMZ, the Idol producers didn’t find out until today that he had been arrested twice last year, including once for an incident that involved violence, and has outstanding warrants. Tonight, Jones confirmed that he was leaving the show on his official Idol Twitter feed. Previously on Idol, Season 2 semifinalist Jared Andrews was dismissed over assault charges, while Top 9 finalist Corey Clark was disqualified over pending battery charges. Like Jones, they hadn’t disclosed their criminal history when signing up for the show. Another dismissed Idol semifinalist, early Season 2 frontrunner Frenchie Davis, who got the boot over racy photos, recently resurfaced on rival The Voice.

Last month, while interviewing executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for a story about possible changes to American Idol for its upcoming eleventh season, I proposed the idea that the show should introduce a list of 11 songs that would be banned from the live performance rounds on the grounds that they’ve been done to death in previous seasons. Lythgoe’s response caught me off guard: “Well, Mike, if you want to write down and send me 11 songs that you don’t want to hear again, I will put them through to the committee.”
Well, sir, you don’t have to ask me twice!
