Fans were clearly devastated after the announcement that Charlize Theron is no longer returning to lead the upcoming post-apocalyptic film Furiosa, but director George Miller has a very logical reason for this decision.
Anya Taylor-Joy in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
The prequel franchise is now led by Anya Taylor-Joy who portrays the young version of Furiosa. There had been ideas of using CGI on Theron to de-age her, but this was ultimately scrapped by Miller.
George Miller Explains Why He Replaced Charlize Theron In Furiosa
During his interview with Variety, filmmaker George Miller explained how using CGI won’t do the job for Furiosa. He noted that, while the technology is a great option, it has its limits.
“I saw not only The Irishman but Ang Lee’s Gemini Man with Will Smith. Both of them were masterful directors, but it was never persuasive. I thought all people would...

“Mad Max: Fury Road” (2015) reignited the post-apocalyptic genre with its action and vision. This was the fourth movie in the Mad Max franchise and the first since 1985. Directed by the creative mind of George Miller, it starred Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in leading roles.
Tom Hardy || Mad Max: Fury Road
The film’s success led to calls for more, and those calls are being answered with “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” a prequel focusing on Theron’s character’s earlier adventures. However, Theron won’t be reprising the role and there’s a solid reason behind this.

It’s been six years since Parasite took the cinema world by storm and changed the landscape for Western films in general. The Bong Joon Ho movie became the first foreign film to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. It beat out the likes of Joker, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, and 1917. Parasite is about a low-class family who forms a symbiotic relationship with the wealthy Park family. However, that relationship is threatened when greed and class discrimination challenge the values of both families. Bong Joon Ho has been a strong filmmaker for decades now. Earlier this week, a new listing indicated that director Maggie Gyllenhaal was gearing up to begin production on a Bride of Frankenstein feature tentatively titled The Bride. The currently untitled Frankenstein lore movie, now confirmed under Warner Bros., is not only now official, per Deadline, but Annette Bening has joined the cast.
Bening adds to a cast that includes star Jessie Buckley, Penelope Cruz as the Bride, Christian Bale as Frankenstein, Peter Sarsgaard as a detective.
In the untitled Bride of Frankenstein film, “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”

Michael Mann’s Heat remains one of the finest cinematic achievements of the ‘90s, an epic crime drama with a cat-and-mouse plot centered around two of the greatest actors to ever grace the screen – just not together. Heat wasn’t the first time that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino shared a credit (that was The Godfather Part II) but so much anticipation came in them sharing a timeline. But for some reason or another there has long been the question by some as to whether or not De Niro and Pacino were actually on set together at the iconic coffee shop scene. Despite there being set photos that show them in a two-shot, we don’t actually see them as such in Heat, leading many (chiefly those who never saw the behind-the-scenes photo) to speculate. Now, director Michael Mann isn’t only debunking that theory but explaining exactly how...

George Miller has revealed the first trailer for Furiosa, his upcoming prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. Officially titled Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the film officially hits theaters on May 24th, 2024.
The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa, with a supporting cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, and Quaden Bayles.
The story, which Miller co-wrote with Fury Road collaborator Nico Lathouris, follows a young Furiosa who is “snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants war for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland.”
The origin’s of Furiosa pre-date the filming of Fury Road, as Miller wrote an early draft as a way to assist Charlize Theron, who famously portrayed the Furiosa character in the 2015 movie.

A movie’s central character needn’t be someone we admire, but he should probably be someone we’re drawn to, someone we vibe with in sympathetic fascination, who we feel we know and understand even as he crosses over to the dark side. Few movies have lived out that dynamic more cathartically than the underworld dramas of Martin Scorsese.
“Mean Streets,” the tale of low-rung Little Italy mobsters that Scorsese made 50 years ago (I think it’s still his greatest film), is about Harvey Keitel’s ladder-climbing numbers runner, but the most explosive character is Robert De Niro’s Johnny Boy, a self-destructive firecracker who doesn’t “give two shits about you, or nobody else,” a quality that would make him repellent if he weren’t so hypnotic. In “Taxi Driver,” De Niro’s Travis Bickle is a loner who can’t connect, but he connects with the audience in every frame.

As artificial intelligence continues to be a focal point in Hollywood amid the actors and writers strikes, terms such as “responsible AI” and “ethical AI” became key messaging for computer graphics thought leaders gathered in Los Angeles for the 50th Siggraph conference.
“The generative AI era is upon us, the iPhone moment of AI, if you will,” Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, said during his Aug. 8 keynote. Before thousands of delegates, he introduced the tech giant’s newest related tech, including its GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and AI Workbench toolkit. “Startups are doing amazing things,” Huang added. “Of course they’re doing content creation, but they’re also using generative AI to steer a self-driving car … generate proteins, chemicals, discover new drugs.”

Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light & Magic, which won Oscars for the visual effects in Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones films Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom, returned to use every trick in the book on the whopping 2,350 VFX shots in the fifth installment of the franchise.

Exclusive: As his series creation The Bear turned in record Season Two ratings for Hulu, Christopher Storer is set to direct at Paramount Pictures The Winter of Frankie Machine, an adaptation of the 2006 Don Winslow novel. A child conceived when Killers of the Flower Moon‘s first still debuted––that was May 10, 2021––could now walk, or at least waddle. It’s a fine image, unambiguously superior to Frances McDormand’s knowing smile or Renate Reinsve’s cheerful run or Brendan Fraser’s forlorn glance, and I truly wish Paramount and Apple banked their $200 million investment exclusively on a moment shared between Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone. But all good things must come to an end, and now that we know the director––who many forget is a student of and occasional due-payer to the avant-garde––does not hold his camera in that position, Wavelength-style, for such a length, it’s time to see more. Put another way: we finally have a trailer for Scorsese’s 206-minute western mere days before its Cannes premiere.

Martin Scorsese is a film legend. The director has won nearly every major accolade, including an Academy Award and multiple Emmy Awards, British Academy Film Awards, and Directors Guild Awards. His movies have ranged from the groundbreaking crime films Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and The Wolf of Wall Street to religious explorations The Last Temptation of Christ and Silence to period romance The Age of Innocence. Nobody would ever question Scorsese’s reputation. Unless they are on the internet.
In recent years, the director has become a target for insecure superhero movie fans, after he compared the genre to “theme park rides” instead of cinema. “As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.” Everyone who’s seen Goodfellas at least a dozen times and can practically quote it from memory — virtually everyone who’s seen Goodfellas, in other words — knows what comes right before Ray Liotta says the line: a stabbed body, a bloody sheet, a bright-red glow coming from a car trunk. Everyone remembers what comes after it too, once the credits have rolled: A kid’s romanticized view of these neighborhood big shots, all flashy suits and fancy cars and colorful nicknames.
