Mark Cuban's HDNet said Tuesday that it will produce and finance 15 new episodes of the improv comedy series "Sports Action Team".
The network will debut new episodes of the series in high-definition starting in the fall, with MGM handling the worldwide television distribution of the series exclusively.
"Sports Action Team" is a half-hour semi-scripted series that follows the antics of a hapless team of reporters who cover the national sports beat. Each week, the cast -- comprised of alumni members of Chicago-based improv comedy groups Improv Olympic and Second City -- interacts with real-world professional and amateur athletes, managers, sports enthusiasts and celebrities.
"HDNet is excited to be the high-def home for 'Sports Action Team, ' " said Cuban, who serves as president of HDNet and co-founded the network with general manager Philip Garvin. "The behind-the-scenes part of sports interviews is pretty crazy as it is. Mix in some comedic improv and world famous sports stars and the result is a great show that HDNet viewers will love."
Added MGM worldwide television distribution president Jim Packer: "MGM and HDNet have worked together on a number of projects, and we are thrilled to be partnering once again.
