The early word on a new project from Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick, entitled Dead Awake, has hit the wire, and it focuses on "hagging." It's said that when you wake up in the middle of the night and find yourself frozen and unable to move, there's a spirit on your chest weighing you down.
Speaking as someone who has had this experience, I can tell you first-hand it's pretty frightening.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Incendiary Features, an Austin-based production company led by producer James Lamarr and director Phillip Guzman, has just purchased the rights to the flick, which follows a young woman investigating a mysterious death in her family. She must fight to save herself and her friends from an ancient evil that stalks its victims through the real-life phenomenon of sleep paralysis.
Guzman is set to direct with production slated for this fall in central Texas.
Look for more on this one asap!

Exclusive Interview: Writer/Director Mel House Talks Psychic Experiment, Upcoming Projects and More!
On Tuesday, December 6th, Lionsgate is set to release writer/director Mel House's latest genre offering, Psychic Experiment. Featuring an all-star cast including Katie Featherston, Debbie Rochon, Adrienne King, Reggie Bannister, Glenn Morshower, Kathy Lamkin and Shannon Lark, the flick is centered around an idyllic, small, self-sufficient community which seems like the perfect neighborhood on the surface.
After all, everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. But eventually the pastoral exterior conceals a dark past and an even darker secret, and as a group of individuals - each with their own ties and agendas with the town and each other - converge on the enclave, strange things begin to happen. Very strange things. Strange enough to test - and then break - the very fabric of reality itself.

After yesterday's surprising post regarding the name change of the indie horror flick Walking Distance to Experimental Activity , we double-checked with writer/director Mel House to officially set the record straight. An article on The Hollywood Reporter announced the title change, which bared resemblance to actress Katie Featherston's other film Paranormal Activity . (Featherston appears in both.) Producer/star James Lamarr issued a press statement to Dread Central stating the following: "Our title is still Walking Distance . The alternate title that Showcase came up with after they acquired the international rights over the weekend applies to the foreign market only. They felt they needed a catchier title for that market, and we gave them permission to change it....

We love when clarification is given. It just makes everything seem a bit saner, ya know? It seems that The Hollywood Reporter didn't have all of its ducks in a row concerning the title switch of Walking Distance to Experimental Activity.
We heard from producer and star James Lamarr, who shed a little light on the subject for us!
"Our title is still 'Walking Distance'," Lamarr tells Dread. "The alternate title that Showcase came up with after they acquired the international rights over the weekend applies to the foreign market only. They felt they needed a catchier title for that market, and we gave them permission to change it. We sent them several alternate suggestions, but they ultimately chose their own. We are excited to have Showcase represent our film abroad - they have decades of experience, and even more, they are excited about all aspects of the project.

Writer/director Mel (Closet Space) House provided Fango with an exclusive new trailer for his ambitious indie shocker Walking Distance. He also sent along some exclusive new pics from the movie; you can see one below the trailer and the others at the bottom of this page.
The movie takes place in a small community that offers complete self-sufficiency, but has some extremely unpleasant secrets bubbling under its surface. “I’m happy to say that I’m 95 percent done with the initial rough cut,” House tells us. “Once I get that finished, we’ll start getting the plates out to our visual FX guys, so that they can get cracking on that stuff while I start on my second pass. Things are actually moving along rather quickly now; Hurricane Ike set our 2nd-unit shooting back about a month, but it worked out in our favor, as it gave us more...
