Ahead of Fox’s premiere of the animated series Universal Basic Guys, the network has given the comedy an early Season 2 renewal. Season 1 is set to premiere in the 2024-25 season.
From creators Adam and Craig Malamut, Universal Basic Guys follows brothers, Mark and Hank Hoagies, who lose their jobs to automation and are given $3k a month in a new basic income program. Now, they’re using their free time and free money to find purpose in a world where they’re no longer needed.
Universal Basic Guys was picked up by the network in late 2022. It will join other Fox comedies including the Jon Hamm-led Grimsburg, Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis, as well as the long-running titles The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers. The series is a co-production of Fox Entertainment through its animation studio Bento Box Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television.

In the years since the release of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been struggling. Unimpressive box office performance and lukewarm critical and fan response have plagued the superhero franchise that used to be one of the most reliable in cinema. But who’s to blame?
It might be Rick and Morty.

Not every TV show can hit a home run right out of the gate. Often, they need time to settle into a routine or win over audiences, especially when they are more character-driven. Normally, things start to shake out after the pilot episode, which is where we usually see the growing pains of a show trying to figure out exactly what it is. But every once in a while, there's a show -- sometimes even one that will go on to become legitimately great -- that needs a little more hand-holding.
Maybe the characters aren't gelling the right way, the showrunners are attempting to retool the series in real time, or they were simply experimenting stylistically. Whatever the reason, it's not impossible for a show that requires some extra time to cook to become beloved by audience. Here are some of our favorite shows that, despite eventually aspiring to greatness,...

Donald Glover has been booked and busy, but those rumors about his schedule holding up production on Peacock’s Community: The Movie aren’t accurate, according to the multihyphenate.
“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told Deadline earlier this week at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience in support of his Prime Video series Mr. and Mrs Smith. The video can be watched above.
When asked if it was his busy schedule holding up production, he said while laughing, “Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me! They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”
Created by Dan Harmon, Community, a comedy series set at a community college in a fictional Colorodo town, ran for 110 episodes across six seasons between 2009-2015, first on NBC...

This list contains series that will brighten up even the most difficult everyday life. At the same time, each of them is not an empty trinket, suitable only for wasting time and forgetting, but an individual and stylish project, made with real wit and screenwriting skill.
1. Veep, 2012-2019
Few mock politics as blatantly as Armando Iannucci's satirical sitcom. The show mocks not only the main character, Selina Meyer, but also her hapless team trying to keep Selina in power. As the show progresses, Meyer becomes President of the US, but does not stay in that position for long.
Veep is, of course, a show for those who love when jokes are delivered at machine-gun speed, the morals of political managers are mocked in the most merciless way, and political reality appears as a series of paradoxes.
2. BoJack Horseman, 2014-2020

There were many memorable cinematic performances that came from actresses in 1999 (Annette Bening in American Beauty, Samantha Morton in Sweet and Lowdown, Julianne Moore in Magnolia). And then there was a truly iconic turn from Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, the terrifying antagonist in Alexander Payne’s sharp political satire, Election.
A cunning, ambitious and oh-so-annoying foil to her teacher and would-be mentor, Omaha-area social studies instructor Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), Tracy is at times the worst — for example, when her affair with Mr. McAllister’s best friend is discovered, the teenager has no qualms about abandoning him entirely — and in other moments, Tracy can be the absolute best. At least, she insists on that top slot, no matter what: having the highest grades, getting into the best college, winning a high school election — she’s destined for greatness, which in the time Election takes place means winning the office...

We have recently reported that the One-Punch Man manga will be getting a live-action movie treatment. This is not a particularly new piece of information, as it has been known that a live-action adaptation is in the works for a while now, but we have gotten some crew updates recently, which confirmed that Rick and Morty writer Dan Harmon and his collaborator Heather Anne Campbell have joined the crew of the upcoming movie as writers, but as it turns out, there is a bigger story there.
Namely, as it turned out, Harmon and Campbell were not hired to simply write the movie; they were, in fact, hired to re-write an already-existing screenplay with which Sony is not satisfied. This doesn’t change much in the long run, but it is a vital piece of information that helps us understand how the pre-production phase is evolving.

When Fast & Furious director Justin Lin was revealed to be at the helm of the live-action One-Punch Man film back in June 2022, the script was in the hands of Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner of Venom and Jumanji: The Next Level . Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter , Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon is teaming up with writer Heather Anne Campbell on a rewrite of the script. The news closed out the end of the latest update on Justin Lin's directorial work. The next project he's hopped on is crime thriller Stakehorse , based on a script by Justin Piasecki that found itself near the top of the 2023 Black List. In addition to that and One-Punch Man , Lin has the thriller Two for the Money —starring Charlize Theron and Daniel Craig—in the works at Apple. One-Punch Man is an online manga written and drawn by One. It has been published on the author’s personal website since June 3, 2009. A manga adaptation drawn by Yūsuke Murata has been published in Shūeisha’s Tonari no Young Jump web magazine since June 14, 2012, and 30 volumes have been released as of the time of writing. An anime series adaptation produced by Madhouse has been airing since October 2015. If you add all of this up, you will understand, quite easily, that One-Punch Man is one of the most popular animanga titles in the world and why the quirky series has so many fans.
Building on this, you’ve probably heard that there are plans for a live-action adaptation of the manga, which isn’t all that surprising seeing how there is a live-adaptation craze currently in the West, mostly helped by Netflix’s more or less successful live-action adaptations, such as One Piece and Avatar.

While anime fans still look forward to the third season of One Punch Man, the beloved manga series may now have a future in theaters. Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced a live-action film way back in 2020 and the progress has been really slow on the project. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were initially signed on as writers, but the latest reports suggest that Rick and Morty writers Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.

In a much anticipated update for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of One Punch Man, it has been revealed that Sony Pictures has enlisted the talents of Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, alongside Heather Anne Campbell, to pen the script.
Dan and Heather will be replacing the previously announced writers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, to rewrite the script.
Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced on April 21, 2020, that they were developing a live-action film adaptation. On June 13, 2022, Justin Lin was unveiled as the director and co-producer, with plans for production to commence later in the year.
One Punch Man is a Japanese superhero manga series created by One. One wrote the original webcomic manga version in early 2009.

Justin Lin has come aboard to direct Stakehorse, a crime thriller set up at Amazon MGM Studios.
Lin and his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner will also produce the feature, joining Todd Lieberman and Alex Young of Hidden Pictures on the project.
Justin Piasecki wrote the script, much of which is being kept in the stable. It is known that it centers on a horse veterinarian who has a side hustle doing medical work for criminals who may need work off the books.
Sources say the project is tonally similar to The Town, the crime thriller directed by Ben Affleck. The script landed near the top of the 2023 Black List.

She continued, “I’ve read the script, and it’s so funny.”
Brie noted that there were no set dates for filming the movie. Furthermore, the Apples Never Fall star expressed her wishes for her character, Annie.

“Animal Control” star Joel McHale is keeping the vermin off his “Community” movie set. McHale told The Post that Chevy Chase is not welcome back for the upcoming Peacock movie adaptation.
“I don’t think he’s allowed to [return],” McHale said. “I don’t think it would happen. I don’t think [him returning] is a thing. Obviously his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in.”
McHale added: “I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested” in starring in the movie.
The “Community” movie is the culmination of Dan Harmon’s preordained six-seasons-and-a-movie destiny for his NBC sitcom. Chase was part of most of it, but was fired from the series in 2013 after allegedly using a racist slur against co-star Donald Glover and butting heads with series creator Harmon.

Rick and Morty is one of the few cartoons that left a lasting impression in the minds of viewers, and much of it has to do with Justin Roiland. As a series, it is impeccable since it combines science and humor, making it a delightful watch.

Peacock is getting a few steps closer to Community‘s “six seasons and a movie” promise as the streamer’s follow-up film continues to take shape, but in the meantime, the comedy’s six seasons will finally come to the platform beginning Monday, April 1. The series originally aired on NBC for five seasons from 2009 to 2014 when it was canceled by the network. Ultimately, fan fervor and support led to the show’s saving by the now-defunct Yahoo! Screen where the sixth and final season originally streamed. (Credit: Peacock) Now, the show’s long-prophesied “six seasons and a movie” is about to be a reality as Peacock previously announced plans for Community: The Movie, from original series creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Andrew Guest. In anticipation of the film’s arrival, all six seasons will be streamable to Peacock subscribers this spring, allowing fans to relive their favorite episodes and...

In the famed "Rick and Morty" episode "Pickle Rick", the mad scientist Rick (Justin Roiland) uses his bizarre scientific acumen to transform his body into a pickle. He initially claims that he conducted his weird experiment for reasons of study, but it's made clear right away that he turned himself into a pickle specifically to avoid going to group therapy with his family. His daughter Beth (Sarah Chalke) leaves Rick alone in his garage, taking the syringe of antidote that would transform him back into a human. Rick, not being able to move as a pickle, is batted around by a cat and knocked into a sewer. He manages to create locomotion for himself using his tongue on a cockroach's exposed brain. He is eventually able to construct gross, muscular limbs out of rat cadavers, as well as weapons and jet packs from other sewer detritus. Rick, as a rat pickle,...

Throughout its six season run, "Community" encountered a genuinely impressive set of challenges. First of all, series creator, Dan Harmon, was kicked off his own show, which considering his behavior wasn't all that shocking. An admitted heavy drinker, Harmon also became notorious for what The Hollywood Reporter referred to as his "eleventh-hour rewrites, or 'Harmon passes,'" which he would foist upon the cast and crew during filming. Harmon also fell out with star Chevy Chase, and the show was known for its long shooting days and erratic schedule. No wonder Alison Brie described the "Community" set as "frantic, frenetic, chaotic"
Then, there was the constant threat of cancellation, which loomed over "Community" until the show was actually canceled by NBC after its fifth season. Yahoo's then-new streaming service, Yahoo! Screen, picked up the show for its sixth and final season that seemed destined to fail. And fail it did.

Actor Joel McHale reflected on an altercation he had with his fellow Community co-star Chevy Chase that occurred on the set.
McHale, known for his main character role as Jeff Winger on the TV series, has been candid about disagreements that reportedly transpired between himself and Chase, who played the controversial offensive character Pierce Hawthorne. McHale even dedicated a chapter of his 2016 memoir, Thanks for the Money, to a “step-by-step on how to fight Chevy Chase.”
The topic arose in the podcast conversation when McHale highlighted his willingness to address the conflicts that arose with Chase while they were on the show. When asked about the nature of the incidents, McHale revealed that physical altercations did occur, with instances where one shoved or pushed the other. McHale described the confrontations as “advanced horseplay,” and humorously remarked, “You know, horseplay, and then it always turned into sex. It wasn’t fun.

Dan Harmon has established a pretty neat little entertainment empire, creating the beloved cult hit "Community" before co-creating "Rick and Morty" and overseeing Apple TV+'s "Strange Planet" and Fox's "Krapopolis." But it's been a rocky road to success for Harmon, who was previously kicked off his own show before being rehired, and in 2018 had to publicly apologize for his prior mistreatment of "Community" writer Megan Ganz — and those are just a couple of examples of the man's controversies. Despite these debacles, however, Harmon has been an entertainment mainstay for well over a decade at this point, and during that time he's not only managed to create several of his own successful shows, but he's also apparently been fairly influential in perhaps the biggest Hollywood success story of the modern era: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although “Community” has remained a cult favorite show since its 2009 debut, Chevy Chase, one of the series’ stars, has been very vocal that he didn’t enjoy making it. Similarly, fellow cast member Joel McHale hasn’t been afraid to slam Chase in the press. Yet their on-set feud turned physical too, with one ending when McHale injured the veteran comedian.
McHale was a guest on a recent episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast, where he described a section of his 2016 memoir “Thanks for the Money” which included a “step by step on how to fight Chevy Chase.”
When Rosenbaum asked if their on-set altercations were verbal or physical, McHale confirmed there were multiple physical incidents.
“It was an advanced horseplay,” he said, joking, “You know, horseplay, and then it always turned into sex.”
From there, he described the reality of the situation, saying, “It would get a little contentious.

Who could've imagined "Community" launching the careers of so many big-name artists? From the Russo Brothers to Donald Glover and Alison Brie, Dan Harmon's cult-favorite comedy series was a breeding ground for then-budding talents, perhaps none more so than composer Ludwig Göransson. Over the last 15 years, Göransson has cemented himself as one of the best music-making millennials in the business, along the way picking up an Oscar for the sick Afrofuturistic beats of his "Black Panther" soundtrack (although his Oscar-nominated score for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" was just as impressive). He's now landed a well-deserved second Academy Award for his electrifying work on "Oppenheimer," placing him in some reputable company when it comes to the Oscars.
Specifically, this gives Göransson just as many Oscars as Hans Zimmer. It's actually kind of mind-boggling that the legendary composer doesn't have more than that, considering just how many iconic movie scores he's...

Six seasons and a movie -- it's finally happening!
A Community movie is apparently in the works, with star Joel McHale stating the film will begin shooting in 2024.
It's been nine years since we last saw our favorite Greendale Human Beings, and we have a lot of questions about the upcoming film. Here's everything we know so far about the Community movie.
Community Movie Release Date
There has been a lot of back and forth about whether a Community movie would ever be made. With the famous "six seasons and a movie" line from the show, fans have long held out hope.
In September 2022, Peacock ordered a Community movie. However, series creator Dan Harmon later expressed concern that the movie wouldn't happen at all despite being "nearly done" with the script.
In January 2023, Joel McHale said the movie would be filming that summer, but production was canceled due to the actor and writer strikes.

After being discussed for around a decade, the Community movie is coming much closer to being a reality, according to star Joel McHale.
In an interview with Deadline today, in support of his Fox sitcom Animal Control, returning for its second season March 6, McHale first pointed to recent comments by co-star Donald Glover in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, confirming that “the script’s done.”
McHale said that while he hasn’t yet read the script himself, he’s more than happy to share some story details. “We go to the center of the earth,” he joked. “It’s like the movie The Core.”
In all seriousness, McHale said, it’s his belief that the Community movie will shoot “this year.” He’ll be “shocked,” he said, if it doesn’t. “But I really do think it’s happening this year, and probably next week. It’s basically working around Donald’s schedule.”
In conversation with Deadline on the Fox lot, McHale also called his Animal Control cast “one of the funniest groups of people I’ve been around” — in contrast to the Community team, who he joked “were just a bunch of hacks.”
While one of his old co-stars, Ken Jeong, appears on Animal Control this season as a dog whisperer, McHale joked that he, too, is “a hack and cannot act or tell jokes,” going on to claim that “he’s not funny, not successful, and I have carried him for years. Everyone thinks I’m joking, but it’s true.”
Of course, in reality, McHale said, Jeong’s episodes were coming in too long because he did “so much funny stuff…He was really way too f***ing funny, and it really pissed me off.”
Created by Dan Harmon, Community ran for 110 episodes across six seasons, between 2009 and 2015, originating on NBC before moving over to the now-defunct Yahoo! Screen for its final run. Watching as McHale’s suspended lawyer befriends a group of eccentrics after being enforced to enroll in community college, the show was not always a ratings juggernaut, though it has maintained a very loyal fan following throughout all these years. Over the course of its run, it also notably won an an Emmy, a Critics’ Choice Television Award, and other accolades.
Peacock officially announced the Community movie back in 2022, enlisting Harmon and Andrew Guest to pen the script. McHale said during a January 2023 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that it was to begin shooting in June of last year, though those plans fell through in a double strike summer.
In addition to McHale, cast members set to return for the movie include Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Jeong, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Glover.

The seventh season of Rick and Morty ended in December, tying up many arcs in the beloved sitcom. The season had the task of going ahead and re-voicing all the episodes after co-creator and lead voice actor Justin Roiland was fired from the show due to his legal issues. The season of the show followed Rick and Morty’s adventures as they pursued Rick Prime.
While the final episode of the show tied up the arc of the main characters, there are still many seasons to go. With the main two antagonists of the series getting a resolution, fans have been coming up with theories on who the next season’s villain might be. In an interview with Variety, creator Dan Harmon debunked a popular theory by Mat Pat. Spoilers ahead.

Showrunner Scott Marder and co-creator Dan Harmon of Rick and Morty have admitted that they are not quite done with Evil Morty’s arc. The popular animated sci-fi sitcom concluded its seventh season with the episode titled Fear No Mort, which aired in December of last year.
The beloved duo’s arcs were neatly wrapped up, the main plot thread of the show was tied, and new and exciting territory was explored in this thrilling seventh season. In an interview with Variety, Harmon and Marder have gone in-depth with Rick and Morty Season 7, in addition to offering a spoiler-free preview of Season 8.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from Season 7 of Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty,” now streaming on Max.
With its Season 7 finale “Fear No Mort” airing in December, “Rick and Morty” was able to close off what had already been a rollercoaster of a season, one that delivered closure to the arcs of our beloved duo, and tying the knot on the series’ main plot thread — while still looking ahead at the uncharted territory left for Rick and Morty to venture to.
The show’s audience seems to have responded to the animated series’ latest offering: Its seventh season was released on Max in January, and according to Warner Bros. Discovery, is tracking about 25% higher than Season 6 in terms of viewing accounts through its first three weeks of availability.

There's a popular quip among programmers, originally attributed to Bell Labs' Tom Cargill, which states that 90% of code accounts for 10% of development time, and the last 10% of code takes up the other 90% of development time. A similar rule applies in screenwriting, as "Community" creator Dan Harmon admitted when he addressed Donald Glover's claims that the script for the upcoming "Community" movie is complete.
"I can confirm Donald Glover's report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald's sources are so unreliable because the script is always 'almost done,'" Harmon joked to Variety. Indeed, finishing a movie script is really only the first step. Just ask any screenwriter with a file name along the lines of moviescriptfinaldraft2FINAL_v4.pdf sitting on their computer.
So, with certain aspects of the "Community" movie still in flux, what is certain about it? "It's set on...

“Community” creator Dan Harmon is inching closer to the finish line for the “movie” portion of his “Six Seasons and a Movie” prophecy.
Following up on former “Community” star Donald Glover’s recent assertion that a script is already in the can, Harmon told Variety that it was almost right. According to Harmon, he’s “almost done” working on the script for the highly-anticipated film, which is set to run on NBCU’s Peacock streaming service.

In honor of beloved NBC sitcom Community and its upcoming movie spinoff, let’s begin with some Remedial Chaos Theory. Without the release of a tepidly-received action comedy in 2005, you wouldn’t be reading this article right now.
That’s because if the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie-starring film Mr. and Mrs. Smith didn’t premiere 20 years ago, then there wouldn’t be a TV version starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine today. And if there’s no 2024 Mr. and Mrs. Smith then we wouldn’t get a very honest and open Donald Glover on a press tour, eagerly answering every question about the Community movie that comes his way.

As much as they've become a go-to option, revivals and legacy sequels tend to have a pretty significant roadblock working against them. The more time goes by, the harder it gets to justify bringing back the same cast to relive their glory days without it feeling ... kind of sad, actually. It's like that one guy everyone knows who peaked during his high school or college years and hasn't been able to move past it ever since. That takes on an added layer of relevance (and potential awkwardness) with the much-hyped "Community" spin-off movie, which has tasked original series creator Dan Harmon with figuring out how to make this continuation live up to expectations. Given the fact that the entire point of the comedy was the ridiculousness of having these characters together in the world's worst community college, well, maybe that's exactly what makes the movie worth doing.

It’s been a long road to get to the fabled Community movie. What started as a “six seasons and a movie” in-joke amongst fans became something more concrete when Sony Pictures TV and Peacock jointly announced that they would begin production on a Community film, helmed by original creator Dan Harmon.
Of course, then some stuff happened: most notably the dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. While the entertainment industry’s actors and writers were eventually able to negotiate an equitable deal for their work, the twin disruptions effectively shut down Hollywood for months, jeopardizing many projects.

Did you think only Zack Snyder admirers could basically will an entire movie into existence? Think again. For almost 10 years, "Six seasons and a movie!" has been the rallying cry for one of the most passionate fanbases the internet has ever seen. "Community" may not have ever been the ratings hit that it deserved to be, sure, but the niche comedy created by Dan Harmon cultivated its own unique -- and very vocal -- following throughout the years, nonetheless. And ever since the brilliant, genre-jumping series came to an end in 2015, viewers have patiently waited for any and all updates on a potential movie in the works.

Throughout the 90’s, the popularity of more adult-oriented animation on TV would continue rising until the traditional kid-friendly Cartoon Network began airing more adult-animated programs after 11 pm. They eventually launched their Adult Swim slate of programs that catered to an adult audience that would be watching TV at that late of an hour. We would see the rise of cult hits such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. But no show seemed to have true crossover success until December 2, 2013, when an animated show debuted that resembled a more adult version of Back to the Future. The show came from controversial figure Dan Harmon who had recently been fired from his network series Community, yet it would be the show’s other creator that ten years later would make headlines for his off-screen behavior. Variety’s annual Showrunners Dinner presented by A+E Studios on Thursday night gathered writers recognized on the publication’s annual TV Producers Impact List, as well as several of this year’s Emmy nominees. In addition, megaproducer Chuck Lorre was honored with Variety’s first Norman Lear Award.
Held at Merois, on the rooftop of the Pendry West Hollywood, the Variety Showrunners Dinner included a very funny acceptance speech by Lorre, who pointed out some of the similarities — but more humorously, the differences — between the two icons.
“I think everyone here understands the enormity and significance of Norman Lear’s body of work,” Lorre began. “So in accepting this award, I don’t think it’s false modesty to take a moment and focus on the very large differences between his career and my own. For starters, Norman Lear began his career writing for Hollywood legends like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Evil Morty would have to wait, but the season 3 finale's impact on the show is still easy to measure.
"Rick and Morty" season 7 takes a similar approach. Going into this season, fans may have expected an episode like "Unmortricken" to be the season's finale. A big,...
