Timothée Chalamet’s magical, musical candyman is coming to Max.
“Wonka” will make its streaming debut exclusively on Max on Friday, March 8, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Friday.
The movie — featuring Chalamet in the title role — tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, following him as a young man as he becomes “the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker,” per the studio. The family film co-stars Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key and Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa.
“Wonka” has surpassed $600 million at the global box office, on an estimated $125 million budget. The film is director Paul King’s highest-grossing film, surpassing 2014’s “Paddington” and its 2017 sequel. It is Chalamet’s biggest movie at the international box office, although Warner Bros.’s “Dune: Part Two,” which opens March 1, could surpass “Wonka.”

His predictive sci-fi action film "Minority Report" was still several years away, but in 1997, Steven Spielberg could already see the future.
At that time, Spielberg was an executive producer of "The Mask of Zorro," and during production, he sensed something in the air. In an interview earlier this year, "Zorro" star Antonio Banderas recounted what the famed filmmaker told him:
"Steven Spielberg said to me once when we were shooting, 'This is probably going to be one of the last Westerns shot in the way the Westerns were shot in the old days, with real scenes and real horses, where everything is real, real sword fighting, no CGI.' Everything was practical. And he said, 'But things are going to change. They're going to change and they're gonna change fast. And so you should be proud of this movie.' And I am, probably even more now than at the...

Timothée Chalamet transforms into Willy Wonka for a “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” prequel, “Wonka,” and like the chocolate he concocts in this first trailer, it will make you fly.
The first trailer for the musical debuted during 2023 CinemaCon (though it hasn’t been released online yet), presented by Warner Bros. Discovery, and the crowd gobbled it up like a Wonka bar, particularly the reveal of Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa in a jar, dancing and all.
Chalamet called that first look at Grant “a trip,” and he also stressed that this prequel is about “a Willy that’s full of joy and optimism and hopes to become the greatest chocolatier of all time,” not quite like Gene Wilder’s more cynical version of the Roald Dahl character.

After debuting the first footage from Paul King’s Wonka at CinemaCon last year, Warner Bros showed off an extended trailer today for the Christmas 2023 release. The origins story stars Timothée Chalamet as the titular candymeister, who lands in a mid-European city (the pic was shot in London) after traveling the world perfecting his craft. “I’m something of a magician, inventor and chocolate maker,” he says.
His goal is to open a chocolate shop. But Willy Wonka soon learns he must battle some pretty sinister characters. He’s told, “Many people have come here to sell chocolate and been crushed by the chocolate cartel.”

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights from Roald Dahl and they're now ready to get the ball rolling on a new, original tale centered around our favorite eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka. More information after the drop!
Willy Wonka is coming back to the big screen, thanks to 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple! However, this won't be a reimagining of the classic novel and film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In fact, it's going to be an entirely original tale.

Harry Potter and Gravity producer David Heyman will foster an all-new version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at Warner Bros.
First reported by Variety, it’s understood Warner has acquired rights to the property from the Roald Dahl estate, recruiting The Secret Life Of Pets scribe Simon Rich to hash out a screenplay. Rather than setting out to create another big-screen rendition of Dahl’s cherished story, WB has reportedly mapped out preliminary plans for a standalone story, one which circles back to focus on the early adventures of Wonka himself. There’s even chatter that this could spawn a franchise of films, allowing characters like Charlie to enter the fray further down the line, though Variety’s report does stress that it isn’t an origin story.

The first poster for Disney’s The Bfg is here.
The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The Bfg” to life.
Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s The Bfg tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.
The Bfg (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the Bfg prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle.

Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the Bfg prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle.

Walt Disney and Roald Dahl in Hollywood in 1942.
Steven Spielberg has unveiled the first teaser for Disney’s The Bfg.
“I think it was kind of genius of Roald Dahl to be able to empower the children. It was very, very brave of him to introduce that combination of darkness and light which was so much Disney’s original signature in a lot of their earlier works like in ‘Dumbo,’ ‘Fantasia,’ ‘Snow White’ and ‘Cinderella,’ and being able to do scary, but also be redemptive at the same time and teach a lesson,...

Living legend Steven Spielberg has unexpectedly dominated headlines over the past few weeks whilst mulling options for his next directorial gig. Exclusive: Like so many directors with Toronto-bound films, writer/director Daniel Schechter has been in a race to finish Life Of Crime, his adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel The Switch. Schechter was particularly in a hurry because the 87-year old Leonard’s health was shaky and he was eager to see the movie after giving a free option to a relative newcomer who was crazy enough to adapt the novel on spec and then clean up rights issues that led all the way to France. Sadly, Schechter didn’t get done in time to show his literary idol the film that will be the closing night Gala Premiere at Toronto, starring Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes, Mos Def, Tim Robbins, Isla Fisher and Will Forte. “I would read his novels and to me it was like sheet music, where I would say, I know I can play that piece,” Schechter told me.

SNL veteran Will Forte and Oscar winner Tim Robbins have signed on to replace Ty Burrell and Dennis Quaid in the cast of "The Switch" reports Deadline.
Based on the Elmore Leonard novel, the story follows two ex-cons (John C. Hawkes and Yasiin Bey) who kidnap and ransom the wife (Aniston) of a crooked real estate developer (Robbins).
Said husband refuses to pay the ransom as he sees it as an opportunity to get rid of his wife. The kidnappers then team up with her to get all of her husband’s money.

It's been a weird pre-production trajectory so far for the untitled film based on Elmore Leonard's novel The Switch. Writer/director Dan Schechter wrote a spec screenplay, gained the favor of Leonard, producer Michael Siegel, and even Tarantino - who directed Jackie Brown, to which this movie is a sort of prequel - and locked down John Hawkes, Yasiin Bey, Jennifer Aniston, and Isla Fisher for the cast. "Modern Family" star Ty Burrell and Dennis Quaid were once attached, too, but now Variety reports that Will Forte and Tim Robbins have come on to take over those respective roles as they head toward a start date. Writer/director Dan Schechter took a chance when he wrote a screenplay based on Elmore Leonard's crime novel The Switch. He wrote it on spec, without permission from the author, but luckily for him Leonard (and eventually film producer Michael Siegel) loved what he did with it. Quentin Tarantino also gave the project his blessing because this movie is a prequel of sorts to his film Jackie Brown, using characters Ordell Robbie and Louis Gara (once played by Sam Jackson and Robert De Niro) but now played by Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and John Hawkes. Now Variety says Isla Fisher is attached. Read on! The story, set fifteen years before the events of Jackie Brown, follows Robbie and Gara as they join forces after meeting in prison and decide to ransom a rich developer's wife.
