The scariest thing about Halloween this year isn’t the ghosts and goblins, but those who refuse to wear a mask. That’s why LA-based ad agency Zambezi has created a truly spooky Covid-19 PSA especially well suited for the times. Helmed by director Gina Kelly, the film features none other than Halloween’s Michael Myers himself, Nick Castle – along with a parade of funny and familiar faces like Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers), Tara Copeland (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and more. The:30 spot, “Screamfest” has a spooky classic horror movie feel, and shows the approach of a trick-or-treater to an ominous house at twilight. Suspense builds, and ultimately reveals a terrified person inside the house who lets out a blood-curdling scream when seeing the visitor on their doorstep. This pattern repeats throughout the spot, and ends with the message of “This Halloween…please wear a mask.” Check out the “Screamfest” below: Screamfest from Zambezi on Vimeo.

HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.
Speaking of that last genre, DC lovers will be pleased to note that 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the Dceu, is among the titles arriving on October 1st. Besides that, there’s a bunch of animated DC pics dropping the same day, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman. 2005’s Constantine featuring Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, also debuts on the service from the 1st.
That’s not the only film starring the beloved actor headed to the platform, though, as probably the highlight of October’s haul is the addition of the...

If you like your martinis shaken, not stirred, then you’ll love our list of James Bond movies ranked. We countdown every 007 adventure from worst to best. Where does your favorite place on the ranking?
James Bond was the brainchild of Ian Fleming, a former naval intelligence officer-turned-author who wrote 14 books featuring the British spy and ladies man. The first film adaptation of one of Fleming’s novels, the Eon Productions release “Dr. No” (1962), was a monster hit that made a star of leading man Sean Connery, who played the role of Agent 007 six additional times: “From Russia with Love” (1963), “Goldfinger” (1964), “Thunderball” (1965), “You Only Live Twice” (1967), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971) and the non-Eon produced “Never Say Never Again” (1983).
Connery was briefly replaced by George Lazenby, a male model who headlined “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (1969) and never returned to the series again. Roger Moore took over the role with “Live and Let Die...

Not content with being the world’s most celebrated pop star, Beyoncé is emerging as a major figure in cinema too
Back in 2002, 20-year-old Beyoncé was appearing as Austin Powers’s love interest in Goldmember. She’s come some way since. In fact, as her visual album Black Is King drops, it’s safe to say that Beyoncé is now not just one of the biggest pop stars on the planet but one of the most significant film-makers too. Perhaps that hasn’t been recognised up to now due to her collaborative approach, which doesn’t fit into familiar “auteur” boxes, or because her visual work is not narrative-led, or presented through the usual cinematic channels, but as well as music, it’s clear Beyoncé has significant clout in film these days.
Exhibit A would be her outstanding Lemonade visual album of 2016. The film fused an array of influences – from...

Evil Genius 2: World Domination is the much-anticipated sequel to the cult classic strategy title, Evil Genius.
The original Evil Genius was developed by the now-defunct Elixir Studios and released in 2004. Actually it was the second and last game that the studio released prior to shutting down in 2005. It cast you in the role of a James Bond-esque supervillain (or, more accurately, Austin Powers), who must build his villainous lair and eventually take over the world. The series was compared to the classic Dungeon Master games but benefited greatly from its ’60s spy aesthetics.
Those aesthetics certainly appear to have made a return in this sequel. Evil Genius 2‘s first trailer has been compared to the classic Team Fortress 2 trailers with its colorful characters and light-hearted take on the subject of world domination. Considering that the style of Evil Genius is part of the reason why it’s so fondly remembered,...

Netflix was doing pretty good for itself as it was, but when the coronavirus pandemic shut down worldwide production of film and television, business began booming like never before. With so much extra demand, the streaming service is sifting content at an even higher pace, which entails the removal of some great titles that you should watch now while you still got the chance.
Perhaps the saddest loss subscribers will suffer in June is that of Bob Ross’ Beauty is Everywhere. Why exactly the streamer thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the painter’s therapeutically soothing voice and encouraging words in the midst of a nerve-wrecking crisis is a mystery. Fortunately, the deleted episodes are available online for free on Ross’ YouTube channel, which recently launched a respectable reboot of the infamous Joy of Painting series, too.

With a large portion of the world trapped within four walls and physical contact highly discouraged, people are getting thirsty. In fact, the situation hit fever pitch last night after The Fault in our Stars and Baby Driver‘s Ansel Elgort posted a nude shower pic on Instagram. As far as these things go, it was relatively tasteful, as he was covering up a good part of his body with his hand, Austin Powers style. But this nude isn’t some wild fit of exhibitionism. Instead, it’s for a good cause.
The idea was to raise awareness for Jeffrey Wright’s Brooklyn for Life! Coronavirus relief charity. Elgort captioned the pic “OnlyFans Link In Bio,” but rather than taking us to a premium repository of primo nudes, it instead directed to the fundraising page.

Can you believe it’s been 18 years since the last Austin Powers movie? Star Mike Myers is notorious for being selective with his roles, which makes sense considering he’s only starred in a few projects since Austin Powers in Goldmember and hasn’t kept a very high profile in recent years.
He’s popped up in a number of movies in supporting roles, true, but they’ve curiously always been as characters in heavy prosthetics. Whether it’s Inglorious Basterds, Bohemian Rhapsody or Terminal, you never quite know he’s in a film until the credits start rolling. Perhaps it’s a stipulation in his contract that he always be partially in disguise. Like it’s a gimmick or something?
In any case, none of this has stopped speculation as to whether we’ll ever get an Austin Powers 4. Each movie in the series made more money than...

When Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker first came out, the fandom went wild over the revelation that Rey is actually Palpatine’s granddaughter. Not necessarily for what it meant to Rey, though, but more because it apparently told us that the evil, disfigured Emperor had bumped uglies with some lucky lady at some point. Having lived with this information for several months, we’ve now learned that, wait, that’s not the case and Palpatine’s son – Rey’s dad – was actually a failed, non-identical clone of the Sith Lord.
To say that the additional explanation has not gone down well with fans would be an understatement. As the movie itself seemed to suggest a complete different turn of events, this reads like a massive retcon after the fact. And it’s left people feeling that Lucasfilm just doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Though Mike Myers’ star isn’t what it once was, you probably still remember back to when the Austin Powers movies were a cultural sensation. For a long time, conversations everywhere were full of catchphrases, in-jokes, and bad impressions inspired by the spy spoof films. Until everyone kind of got over them. It’d be fair to say that the series was a bit of a fad and only held its popularity for a limited time, but if an Austin Powers 4 ever did materialize, there’s no doubt it’d bring in a pretty sizable audience based on nostalgia appeal alone.
In fact, we’ve been hearing whispers of a potential fourth outing for several years now, with almost no tangible signs of progress, but at the very least, it seems Jay Roach is still on board. The director of the first – and only – three films in the franchise spoke...

For over a decade, director Jay Roach was known primarily for his work in comedic films. From the “Austin Powers” trilogy to the “Meet the Parents” franchise, Roach had carved out a niche for himself in directing broad comedy blockbusters. Then in 2008, he somewhat surprisingly shifted more to political drama films — and more impressively, critically-acclaimed and awarded films — starting with the HBO movie “Recount” (about the 2000 United States presidential election).
2019 saw the release of Roach’s latest “political” film, in the form of big screen feature “Bombshell,” the Fox News/Roger Ailes scandal piece starring Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie. Theron and Robbie are nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical Comedy and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, respectively, at this Sunday’s 77th Golden Globe Awards.

Forbidden Zone director Richard Elfman pulls a movie with the key to the universe out of his butt in Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens & Geeks.
In the pantheon of cult movies, Forbidden Zone stands at high midnight. Richard Elfman's 1980 Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo vehicle was a one-of-a-kind film careening down on a one-way street to an oddly predestined end. On the clock of Midnight Movies, his upcoming Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens & Geeks runs sometime after 3 a.m., striking after the popcorn has been swept under the seats by the night crew. Independent to its core and featuring Austin Powers' Verne Troyer in his last role, the movie cannot be brushed aside by the barrage of blockbusters. Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens & Geeks is the antidote to mainstream and a breakneck cure for the run-of-the-mill.
Shot in a fast-paced, classic screen-comedy style, the film is intra-dimensional, extraterrestrial and sonically grounded.

“Morning Joe” on Wednesday offered a stinging critique of President Trump’s re-election campaign kickoff rally in Orlando, Florida.
“I mean no disrespect to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll but this is Elvis in ’77, just kind of lumbering across the stage, sweating,” MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said. “It’s Elvis in ’77, sweating, trying to sing the old hits but his heart’s just not really in it.”
And he added that the crowd seems to sense that Trump might have been off his game. “They know what he’s going to sing before he sings it,” he said. “They know all the words and the guy who was once so exciting is now just dull.”

The eighth episode of “What We Do in the Shadows” opens with two telling details when it comes to appreciating Stefani Robinson’s writing. For one, it’s extremely peculiar. The first shot finds the Romani vampire Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) floating outside a second-story window, watching a young woman (played by Beanie Feldstein) staring at herself in the mirror as her reflection betrays her reality. Something is wrong here — in case the floating vampire wasn’t tip-off enough.
Aside from the bizarre nature of events, the opener is also visually striking. From there, the bitten girl shows more signs of “blossoming into her full vampiric state,” as she levitates above her bed (as her roommate captures it on her iPhone), hisses at people from a park bench, and catches fire when exposed to sunlight — in the middle of an art history class. The montage is quickly paced and character-driven, yet...

For his role as the real-life Lyle Mitchell, husband to the woman who helped two Clinton Correctional Facility, N.Y., inmates escape in Showtime’s limited series “Escape at Dannemora,” Eric Lange gained 40 pounds and wore a wig and a set of fake teeth. The physical transformation helped him get inside the mind of the man who “could smell smoke, but hoped there wasn’t a fire,” Lange says, regarding the fractures in his marriage. In the fourth episode, Lyle goes from trying to rekindle a spark with his wife to seeing his suspicions about her grow, culminating in a drunken confrontation.
Lange: “It’s not often that you get to be so different from who you are. Many times you’re hired to be a version of yourself: ‘Put on a suit, and now you’re a lawyer!’ But this felt more like theater, and it was a rare opportunity,...

It sounds like there’s a chance we might actually see Austin Powers 4 get made. Mike Myers has been wanting to do a fourth Austin Powers movie for a few years now and it looks like he’s been making some headway on it.
During a recent interview with Access, Myers says that he and director Jay Roach are taking their time with making it happen but that it’s “looking good”:
"I've had three kids under the age of seven. They take a long time to write, they always have. Jay's been super crazy. He is doing a fantastic movie right now that he's working on right now. It's looking good, so we'll see."
Maybe when Roach is done with his current project the two will really dive into the project and start getting serious about development. Myers seems optimistic about it. When previously talking about the movie,...

Though Michael Myers’ star has faded in this last decade, you may still remember a time where the Austin Powers movies were a cultural sensation. For many years, the conversations of playgrounds and office spaces across the world were filled with catchphrases, in-jokes, and bad impressions inspired by the spy spoof series until we all decided to give it a rest and start quoting Borat instead. To some extent, you could certainly argue that these movies were a fad for a specific time, but if an Austin Powers 4 ever did come our way, you can bet that it would attract a fair amount of attention on nostalgia appeal alone.
We’ve been hearing about a potential fourth installment for several years now, with little sign of progress, but it seems that Myers isn’t giving up just yet, explaining during a recent interview promoting Bohemian Rhapsody that he and...

Here’s the final trailer for the highly anticipated Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and it does a great job of getting fans pumped up for the film. It’s certainly a more inspiring trailer as it sheds light on the band and what makes them different from all the other wannabe rockstars.
As Freddy Mercury (Rami Malek) says in the trailer, “We’re four misfits who don’t below together, playing for other misfits and the outcasts right in the back of the room, who are pretty sure they don’t belong either… we belong to them.”
As a longtime fan of the band Queen, I am super excited for this movie. I know the early reviews have been mixed, but I’m still looking forward to it! One thing that everyone is praising, though, is Raimi Malek’s performance.

Ah, Halloween, the series more confused than a man with heat stroke in the desert.
While the new movie continues from where the original left off, those not in the loop don’t realize that the franchise tried a different track with an anthology format for the third film, bringing back murderer/Austin Powers star Michael Myers for movies four and five and getting into truly weird cult-Gothic-sex-child sacrifice territory in outing number six.
Best remembered for the slightly better producer’s cut, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers also stars Paul Rudd, was the final film of Dr. Loomis portrayer Donald Pleasence and the last bit in the original six movie continuity before the series tried to reconfigure with Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. But, according to a recent interview that Malek Akkad did with Bloody Disgusting, a ninth film in the franchise almost got made.

Like the monarchy, the metric system, and the inexplicable desire to refer to Madonna as “Madge,” the “Johnny English” franchise is one of those British things that’s never really made it across the Atlantic. Hatched from an ad campaign that remains considerably funnier than any of the feature comedies that have derived from it, these doddering James Bond spoofs are reliably massive draws on the other side of the pond, but American moviegoers don’t seem to have any interest in seeing Rowan Atkinson wreak havoc as a braindead spy who always manages to save the day. If nothing else, the limp and lifeless “Johnny English Strikes Again” serves as final confirmation that America was right to reject these moldy imports — consider it a pyrrhic victory for our paranoid new border policies.

Goldmember, the final film (so far) in the Austin Powers series again shifts its timeline. However, rather than a negligible, though comparatively significant, jump from late to very late 1960s, here we dive into that most raucous of decades – the 1970s. And then back to 2002 (do keep up). For costume designer Deena Appel it was a wildly ambitious undertaking. Not to mention the film also features a well-known music and movie star, just about to launch into the stratosphere: Beyoncé.
Speaking exclusively to Clothes on Film and closing out our epic in-depth look at the Austin Powers trilogy, Deena Appel explains her inspiration and research for Goldmember, complete with never seen before sketches of all the pivotal characters.

Things change up in The Spy Who Shagged Me, for in addition to costuming the modern and swinging sixties world of Austin Powers, his character also travels to 1969, i.e. the ‘hippie era’. The first film was a tremendous success and Appel’s contribution solidified her as the only person who could return to costume this fabulous, vibrant landscape.

With Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), costume designer Deena Appel created one of the most iconic screen looks of all time. That is no overstatement; Austin Powers has been copied and homaged and wheeled out every year as a Halloween costume, with very little credit put Appel’s way. It is a rather sad indictment of how the industry works that, despite its importance, especially in a film such as Austin Powers, a costume designer will rarely see any kudos come their way.
Awards? Well, you might have a chance if your film is set in Victorian England or Disney-verse, but other than that not so much. With this in mind, it seems an apt a time as any to celebrate Appel’s incredible achievement with the Austin Powers trilogy, by interviewing the designer herself and publishing a raft of costume sketches from each movie.

20th Century Fox has released a new clip from the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. The clip gives us a taste of what looks to be a great little scene where Queen frontman Freddie Mercury (Rami Malek) is trying to get a higher note from one of his bandmates while they are recording the legendary song "Bohemian Rapsody". Obviously, Mercury was always striving for perfection in his music. I really love what I've seen from this film so far and I'm excited about it.

The spy genre has always left itself open to be spoofed, deliberately or not. With overly complex world ending plots, pseudoscience, impossible gadgets, male protagonists who exude toxic masculinity, and goatee stroking supervillains. Espionage adventures that have taken themselves too seriously have erred into self-parody.
Cinema and TV are no strangers to mocking, embracing, and celebrating the all-too-goofy cliches and inaccuracies of the fictional world of spies. Austin Powers, Johnny English, and Action Team followed inept secret agents unaware of their own shortcomings bumbling through missions.

Happy birthday Mick Jagger! The Rolling Stones frontman turns 75 today, and he hasn’t lost a step of his swagger in all that time. But after decades of rocking out, he’s found more than a few choice TV and movie moments throughout his career, everything from numerous cameos and hosting stints on “SNL” to working with directors like the Maysles Brothers and Werner Herzog. Check out some of his other greatest licks below:
One of the first, unvarnished, humble looks at The Rolling Stones came in the 1970 documentary “Gimme Shelter.” The Maysles Brothers documented the Stones’ attempt to stage a massive free concert attended by 300,000 people, and things went poorly. The concert doc footage shows the band raw and rowdy in a way you wouldn’t see them today, but the harrowing moment comes when Jagger watches back in astonishment footage of a man in the crowd pulling out a gun during the performance.

We all love a great spy movie – after all it seems that any decent spy manages to spawn a franchise with multiple box office hit installments. But it is fair to say because of this it is a saturated market with more spies than you can shake a tranquilizer gun at. And with the upcoming release of Mission Impossible: Fallout– which has us all excited for some high-octane spy action – we thought we’d have a look at the crème de la crème of cinematic spies…
5. George Smiley – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
Originally a 1974 novel by John le Carré, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a must-read in spy literature. And if reading isn’t your thing don’t worry, as central spy George Smiley has been adapted into TV, Radio and of course film. Tom Cruise has been a consistently bankable and likeable A-lister for over three decades now. That doesn’t happen by accident. “Tom Cruise Movies” are films only possible with Cruise’s level of charisma, energy and youthful enthusiasm, and Most of Cruise’s movies are “Tom Cruise Movies.” And if anyone can jumpstart “The Mummy” franchise again, it’s Cruise. Here’s every film he’s starred in, ranked.
41. “Cocktail”
Cruise’s Type-a, adrenaline-fueled drive serves him very well in movies where the stakes are high. But “Cocktail” is just “Top Gun” behind a bar. The work-hard play-hard clichés at work here threatened to make Cruise the role model for handsome, affable, lame guys you swipe past on dating apps. Cruise smartly moved on from roles like this.
40. “Endless Love”
Tom Cruise has a tiny part in this Brooke Shields melodrama when he was just a squeaky-voiced teen, his first ever on-screen role.

We've got a brand new exciting trailer for you to watch for the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody! I've recently been listening to a lot of Queen lately because I've introduced their music to my kids and they absolutely love it. I loved what I've seen in these trailers that have been released and this latest one is filled with a lot of new footage that is all mixed together with some of Queens most popular songs.
The series stars Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) in the role of Freddy Mercury. I had my initial doubts when he was first cast in the role, but it looks like he owns it. He went through one hell of a transformation to bring Mercury to life on the big screen and it looks like he gives a great performance along with everyone else who was cast in the film.
