An inside chronicle of the formation, actions and fracture of The Lincoln Project comes to Showtime next month in the form of a five-part docuseries, the trailer for which has now been released.
Directed by Fisher Stevens (“Dirty Money”) and Karim Amer (“The Great Hack”), “The Lincoln Project” follows a veteran group of former GOP operatives and strategists known publicly as The Lincoln Project, the fastest-growing super Pac in America, as they take on the task of “saving democracy” and defeating their own party’s sitting president.

One on TV’s most aptly titled series is returning in a few weeks. Showtime said today that Season 4 of The Circus, its docuseries that covers the titular ridiculousness that is late-2010s American politics, will premiere at 8 Pm Sunday, January 27. Watch a teaser above.
Hosted by John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, and Alex Wagner, the new season will go behind the scenes in Washington and beyond, exploring the shifting power dynamics on Capitol Hill as Democrats take control of the House under Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It also will cover the escalating drama around President Donald Trump’s White House as it grapples with mounting legal entanglements, the government shutdown and continued scrutiny from Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Oh, and there’s that looming 2020 election, for which dozens of White House hopefuls already are gearing up.
Veteran political strategist and commentator Steven Schmidt joined the docuseries in September as a recurring on-air contributor.

Veteran political strategist and commentator Steven Schmidt has boarded Showtime’s weekly political docuseries The Circus as a recurring on-air contributor. He’ll join hosts John Heilemann, Alex Wagner and Mark McKinnon when the show returns this Sunday, September 16.
Schmidt is no newcomer to The Circus, having made several previous appearances offering insight on his more than two decades working at the highest levels of national Republican politics. Schmidt played key roles on the campaign teams of Arizona Senator John McCain, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and President George W. Bush, whom he also served in the White House. Schmidt is currently a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC and co-host of the podcast Words Matter.
This fall, The Circus returns to its roots on the campaign trail, following House, Senate and gubernatorial contests across the country – as well as the ongoing upheaval of the Trump administration.

“I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, “Harlan Pepper, if you don’t stop naming nuts,” and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that’s what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she’d just start yelling. I’d say, “Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut.” That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She’d say, “Would you stop naming nuts!” And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn’t talk, but he’d go “rrrawr rrawr” and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it’s also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut…...

The debate about fair vs one-sided portraits aside -- the narrative of which has dominated the political conversation side of things so far -- "Game Change," Jay Roach's HBO film about Sarah Palin's effect on the 2008 Republican campaign to elect John McCain, is, by and large, an absorbing and entertaining docu-drama-like account of this period in election history. It's also perhaps one of the most effective political cautionary tales to date, an evidential A-z portrait of what not to do when trying to pick a running mate.
Based on the well-researched book of the same name by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, “Game Change” centers, at least initially, on Steve Schmidt (Woody Harrelson), an American campaign strategist and public relations worker for the U.S. Republican Party, who had hoped to sit out the 2008 election to spend more time with his wife. That all changes when Barack Obama...

It’s not Tina Fey uncanny, but it might do. The HBO movie Game Change, about the 2008 Presidential Election, begins production today, with the network releasing a photo of Julianne Moore in costume as former VP nominee Sarah Palin. Ed Harris will de-sexify himself to play John McCain, while Woody Harrelson takes on campaign manager Steven Schmidt, who you might remember as the cueball who didn’t have much nice to say about Palin after the election. Hilariously, a photo of Moore as Hilary Clinton (she was set to play the Secretary Of State in HBO’s The Special Relationship before scheduling conflicts) hit the web earlier this month. Do you think she would have got this part if she’d stuck with that one?
Check out photos of Palin and Moore in the gallery below.

That is downright spooky.
Production has started on the HBO film "Game Change," which follows Arizona U.S. Senator John McCain's 2008 run for president, from his selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate to their defeat at the hands of President Barack Obama. Ed Harris stars as McCain and Julianne Moore, as you can see above, is Palin.
The film is based on the bestselling novel of the same name and has Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman as executive producers. It also stars Woody Harrlson as Steven Schmidt, McCain's senior advisor, "CSI's" Larry Sullivan as Palin's deputy chief of staff Chris Edwards and "Temple Grandin's" Melissa Farman as Bristol, reports THR.
Are you excited for the film? We have to say, while we're slightly disappointed it's not Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin, we think Julianne Moore at least looks to be right on the money.
