Exclusive: Danny Glover drama The Drummer has been acquired in North America by 1091 Pictures.
Glover is also an executive-producer on the feature drama in which three interwoven stories reveal the traumatic effects of war on the psyches of veterans from different generations.
Glover stars as Mark Walker, a Vietnam war veteran who has become a lawyer and political advocate for soldiers who have suffered mental health issues through their tenure with the Army. Walker works at The Drummer, a small, “anti-war” coffee shop, where the soldiers he meets open up the issue of the mental struggles and physical toll that war takes on veterans.
Eric Werthman directs. The film is a N and J Productions film, written by Werthman and Jessica Gohlke, produced by Werthman and Vladan Nikolic. Cinematography comes from Marcin Kapron, editing is by Erin Greenwell and the original score is by Clare Manchon and Olivier Manchon.

Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite. In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments. "Justin Vivian Bond's 'The Golden Age of Hustlers' Music Video" Tweetable Logline: A music video where Justin Vivian Bond takes us to the “Golden Age of Hustlers” paying homage to Sf legendary chanteuse Bambi Lake. Elevator Pitch: Art places voices in history. Just as Justin Bond carries Bambi Lake’s Golden Age of Hustlers to new ears at the legendary Joe’s Pub in NYC, so would this music video present the collective consciousness of V’s music. The music video for Golden Age of Hustlers will mix performance from Justin Vivian Bond, live staged tableaus from local performance artists and still projections from San Franscisco's queer community in the 1980s.

In the past few years there’s been an influx of increasingly mainstream films with lesbian themes (The Runaways, The Kids Are All Right) but unfortunately that was not the case in 2012, which didn’t have much to offer in terms of films depicting ladies who love ladies. Sundace brought us the pick of the litter: Young & Wild, My Best Day and Mosquito Y Mari. Overall I saw more films depicting gay men than women and if we’re going to be represented at all in the Oscars this year, it’ll most likely be with a film that happens to feature lesbian characters (like Your Sister's Sister) as oppose to films that focus on lesbian narratives.

My Best Day
Written and directed by Erin Greenwell
USA, 2012
At one point in the film, Karen (Rachel Style) says that, “I’m sick of all the bullshit streaming out of everyone’s mouth. Including my own”. Out of all the ornate, haphazard, and abject silliness that happens in Erin Greenwell’s My Best Day, this statement is the only point of genuine certitude.
The film begins with Karen, a receptionist at a refrigerator repair shop. Through her narration and a Juno like collage of Polaroid’s, we find that she’s somewhat of an orphan, looking for her estranged father. When she suspects one caller to be her long lost dad, Karen enlists the help of her friend Meagan (Ashlie Atkinson) to find the truth.
Although many of the situations posited in the film are sincere and tenable, the way the film goes about actualizing them is not. Never rooted in reality,...

I’ve been considering many cold opening quotes to this “During Sundance” blog ranging from, “Bagels again?” to, “Marina Abramovic is in the next bathroom stall!”
I’ll let Robert Redford start it with, “There’s Sundance here,” as he points towards the floor at the Directors Brunch “And then there’s Park City,” he indicates down the mountain.
“Park City is not Sundance.”
We directors nod. Bob understands. We won’t buy into the machine of the market place. Our film is already the gold and Bob is warning us to stay grounded.
We then instantly bum rush him as soon as his speech is over to speed gush and get a picture.
“Mr. Redford, I’m Erin Greenwell I just wanted to say when I was little I did a living history presentation of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid and I dressed up like a cowboy and...

Once again, movie lovers and industry insiders will be gathering in Park City, Utah this month for the annual independent film orgy known as the Sundance Film Festival (January 19-29) with additional action unspooling at the longstanding alternative event known as Slamdance (January 20-26).
The Lgbt offerings for 2012 look to be slimmer than in years past but here's a sneak peek at some of the titles debuting in Park City that you'll be wanting to keep an eye out for at your local Lgbt film festival this year. Caveat: I have not actually seen any of these films except one (My Best Day which I heartily recommend).
At Sundance:
From out gay writer-director Ira Sachs (The Delta, Forty Shades of Blue) comes the autobiographical romantic drama, Keep The Lights On. Set in the late '90s against a New York City backdrop this is the lone gay feature in the highly competitive U.

Sundance programmer Jon Korn calls "My Best Day" "a charming, up-to-the-minute slice of Americana" and says "Greenwell's quirky script and great ensemble performances ensure that My Best Day is both subversive and sunny." In the film, Karen's (Rachel Style) day goes from bad (she must work on July 4) to crazy (she falls in love and sets off a cascading domino effect of small-town antics). What's it about? On the 4th of July, Karen may have found the father she never knew. To get to him she'll have to navigate her new trailer park family. Says Erin Greenwell: "I was a shy kid but this gave me observation. I stumbled across the talent of being a mimic and caricature drawer of hated teachers. I did an unsolicited living history presentation as Butch Cassidy from the Hole in the Wall Gang in the 3rd grade and did not get picked on for it.

Commitment Ceremony is a song written by Julie Goldman about a lesbian that wants to take her relationship to the next level. Julie produced and directed the music video with Director Erin Greenwell (The D Word and Big Dreams in Little Hope), starring herself and Kate McKinnon, fellow Big Gay Sketch Show cast member. The video was uploaded to You Tube in June 2007 with the description stating, “The most rockin’ comedy-right-to-marry-political-music video ever!” What’s a gay girl to do when she wants to marry her girlfriend but can’t have a wedding? Answer: A Commitment Ceremony.
The video is hilariously witty with a TV show spoof and stereotypical emphasis. The song has a catchy melody and I’m sure you’ll be singing along by the next chorus. The humorous proposal: “We could be special friends and live together; we’ll buy a house and be roommates forever; we...
