Earlier today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the finalists for its prestigious Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship for 2010.
From the press release… 10 writers have been selected as finalists from 6,304 scripts submitted for this year’s competition, which is open to any writer who “hasn’t sold or optioned a screenplay or teleplay for more than $5,000, or received a fellowship or prize that includes a “first look” clause, an option, or any other quid pro quo involving the writer’s work.”
Their scripts will now be read and judged by the Academy’s Nicholl Committee, which may award as many as five of the prestigious $30,000 fellowships.
This year’s finalists are (listed alphabetically by writer) follow below; none of the names is familiar to me, but if you know any of these folks (especially if they’re of African descent), holla:

Legendary comedic actress, and veteran player of the original "Password," Betty White and radio/television host Adam Carolla are the celebrity contestants participating on the hit game show "Million Dollar Password" on Sunday, December 28 at 8/7c on CBS.
"I love Betty White, especially on the show 'Golden Girls,'" a fan of "Million Dollar Password told Celebrity News Service. "She is so funny, I can't wait to see her on the game show."
White and Carolla, who recently appeared on "Dancing with the Stars," will compete for the million prize in round one with Albany Irvin from Shreveport, Louisiana , and Justin Root of Canton, Ohio. In round two, Sebastian Davis from Nashville, Tenn., and Laura Howard from Houston, compete for the million prize.
The modern update of the classic game show is hosted by Regis Philbin.
