Gareth Richards died in a car crash in April of this year. Now he has been honoured at the Edinburgh Comedy Fringe Festival in Scotland, UK, becoming the first ever recipient of the Victoria Wood award.
The BBC reports that Richards, who had been appearing at the Fringe Festival since 2010, was due to perform again this year before he was killed in April. Instead, his friends Dan Ward and Mark Simmons staged “A Show for Gareth Richards” in his name, recruiting some of the country’s biggest comedy names to perform.
The show raised almost £20,000 which will go to a trust fund for Richards’ two sons.
Ward told the BBC: “It feels really sensational to have won this award for Gareth.
“Victoria Wood was the queen of musical comedy, and Gareth was our legend.
“Gareth’s name will be forever associated with this award, and that just means everything.”

We hope you enjoyed your stay at the Continental, because there's a lot more where that came from. The world of "John Wick" is set to expand with a new prequel series titled "The Continental" that has high hopes of recapturing the same magic that turned the Keanu Reeves-starring quadrilogy into the breakout hit that it became. From the humble beginnings of the relatively self-contained and low-budget 2014 film, the series has since risen to greater and greater heights on the big screen.
It'll have its work cut out for it, given that franchise icons Reeves, Ian McShane, and the late, great Lance Reddick will be nowhere to be seen. In their places will be a new cast of characters, though some will be playing younger versions of very familiar faces. Actor Colin Woodell has been cast to fill the enormous shoes left by McShane as Winston Scott, the fresh-faced manager...

Exclusive: A feature adaptation of John William Polidori’s classic 19th-century gothic novel The Vampyre, one of the first English language novels to feature blood-sucking creatures, is in the works at Milky Way Media and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and Derek Jacobi (Murder on the Orient Express) are attached to lead.
We understand production on the pic, titled The Vampyre: Blood & Ink, is set to begin later this year across the UK and Northern Italy. Director is currently under wraps, but the screenplay is by debut writer Rosanna Hamlin, and playwright and director, Trisha Ward (Nightshriek/The Two Wolves), who will both work with producers John Ward, John Dodds, and associate producer Jamie Bulman (The Two Wolves).
Frances Barber, Amelia Gething, Amelia Clarkson, and Bill Fellows (Ted Lasso) are also attached to the pic.
Written in 1819, Polidori’s The Vampyre precedes Bram Stoker’s Dracula by nearly a hundred years and holds wide significance within the gothic genre. The Vampyre: Blood & Ink will depict Polidori’s dark account of the famed and mythical creatures. Pic will begin with Lord Ruthven, a mysterious and magnetic nobleman who captivates London society with his charismatic charm. Aubrey, a young Englishman, becomes infatuated with Ruthven and is drawn into a world of secrets and supernatural horror. As Aubrey uncovers the truth about Ruthven’s sinister nature, he finds himself trapped in a perilous battle against the allure of the vampire’s deadly powers.
The film will also explore how Polidori is confronted with his own inner demons and forbidden desires by telling the story of how he becomes obsessed with his real-life contemporary, Lord George Byron, who becomes an allegory for the character he has created – Lord Ruthven. When these obsessions are revealed, Polidori descends into madness as his mind slowly merges with the fictional character of Aubrey.
“Polidori’s novel was the source material for many for of the vampire stories that we now know and love and that are so pivotal to centuries of gothic storytelling,” said Ward, Producer, and Co-Founder of Milky Way Media. “This is the origin story that preceded Bram Stoker’s iconic Dracula – and it is time this original version was brought to the big screen. We’re eager to breathe new life into this iconic tale, with an incredible cast and the extraordinary writing talents of Rosie and Trisha.”
Hamlin added: “John Polidori is the father of vampiric literature as we know it and we have him to thank, for everything from Dracula to The Vampire Diaries. To date, he has been an overlooked pioneer of Gothic fiction, so it has been a pleasure to revisit this unparalleled novel and rediscover the timeless allure of the vampire mythos. This story is based around the balance of desire and darkness, love and horror, and the complexity of the mind.”...

Larsa Pippen and Marcus Jordan are tackling the common misconceptions about their relationship, and reveal how their families reacted to their romance.
While chatting with Et Canada’s Laura Ward, the couple — who launched their iHeartRadio podcast “Separation Anxiety with Larsa and Marcus” on Tuesday — addressed rumours going around that Pippen used to babysit Jordan.
Speculation arose not only because of their 16-year age gap, but because of their intertwined families. Larsa’s ex-husband, Scottie Pippen, and Marcus’ father, NBA legend Michael Jordan, used to be teammates on the Chicago Bulls back in the ’90s, however they’ve since had a falling out.
“That’s kind of why we have ‘Separation Anxiety’, our podcast, because I feel like people have all these assumptions about us and I think we should set the record straight,” Larsa, 48, said of their new venture. “We should tell people what it is, because that’s not what it was.

M. Ward has announced his new album Supernatural Thing, which is set to release on June 23rd. As a preview, he’s released the record’s title track.
The album is Ward’s first in three years and features contributions from Neko Case, First Aid Kit, Jim James, Kelly Pratt, Shovels & Rope, and Scott McMicken. It also includes two covers — one of David Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away” from his final album Blackstar, and a live recording of Daniel Johnston’s “Story of an Artist.”
“Supernatural Thing” as a single is an acoustic guitar-driven ditty with a jovial atmosphere, based on a message that came to Ward in a dream by none other than Elvis — “You can go anywhere you please.”
“Well, all my songs depend on dream imagery to some extent,” Ward said in a press release. “This was an actual dream I had about Elvis...

Maitland Ward , who played Rachel McGuire on ABC’s “Boy Meets World” from 1998 to 2000, said that “girls were treated like meat,” by the “Disney machine.”
“You had to be virginal, but you also had to be sexual,” Ward told Fox News Digital in an interview published Friday.
The actress, who is now an adult film performer, said the problem wasn’t her co-stars or ABC. “The issues mainly came from Disney, and that it wasn’t so much with the cast members. It was more the whole Disney machine back then, especially back in the late ’90s and early 2000s when the girls were treated like meat.”

After four successful movies starring one of Hollywood’s most universally adored leading men, the “John Wick” franchise is heading to TV with a far more controversial star. “The Continental,” a three-part miniseries set in the “John Wick” universe and starring Mel Gibson, will release on Peacock this September, the streamer announced Wednesday. A short teaser for the show was also released, which can be watched below.
Named after its central hero, the “John Wick” franchise revolves around a complex criminal underworld populated by colorful and deadly assassins. Director Mike Newell has set an August shoot at U.K. locations for “China Court.”
The film will be directed by Newell from a script by Brian Kinsey, based on the 1961 novel “China Court: The Hours of a Country House” by Rumer Godden.
The film centers around a house, China Court, and the family that inhabits it. The film follows generations of the family over a century, up to the death of the matriarch in 1961. Characters move seamlessly in and out of each other’s timelines as they grow up, fall in love, fall out with each other and – always – pass on to those who follow them the consequences of their actions.
“White Noise” producer Uri Singer has joined forces with Echo Lake’s Mike Marcus (“The Ward”) and U.K.-based Pippa Cross to produce the film.
Fortitude International’s Nadine de Barros and Singer’s Passage Pictures are financing the film.

The Sydney Film Festival, which this year will celebrate its 70th edition, has unveiled its first dozen selections. Seven are feature films, five are documentaries.
“The 2023 program will expand on this legacy, promising to ignite stimulating dialogues and present powerful ideas that will broaden audience perspectives,” said festival director Nashen Moodley. He noted that over the previous 69 editions the Sydney festival has showcased more than 10,000 films.
Highlights among the documentaries are two Australian titles. “Rachel’s Farm” follows actor-director Rachel Ward as she revitalizes her beef farm using sustainable farming practices. In “The Last Daughter” Wiradjuri woman Brenda Matthews documents her search to uncover the truth about her government-ordered abduction as a child and to find her white foster family. Both Matthews and Ward will attend the festival in person.
