Rob Thomas could not be more pleased with the use of Matchbox Twenty’s hit song “Push” in Barbie. In an interview with USA Today, the singer confirmed he loved the scene where Ryan Gosling’s Ken performs the song on an acoustic guitar, saying he “thought it was hilarious.”
“When I got the call for Barbie, they told me, ‘Ken’s by the fireside, he’s playing the song and it’s his favorite band,'” Thomas told USA Today. “So I did this thinking I’d be the butt of the joke,...

How the 1940s standard “Happiness Is a Thing Called Joe” failed to be adapted into a Joe Biden campaign song until now is a mystery, but Cher recognized the obvious pairing of classic song and candidate and has recorded her rewrite of the tune, which was originally sung by Ethel Waters in the 1943 film “Cabin in the Sky.”
The song, with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, was nominated for an Oscar after Waters sang it in the Black-themed Vincente Minnelli film. Many of the original lyrics would not do — Waters refers to “little Joe” in the film version, which sounds more like a nickname Donald Trump would apply to the candidate than something they’d want in a campaign anthem. So that reference gets changed to “president Joe” in Cher’s version, among other alterations.

Matchbox Twenty are back. The group has announced the release of their new studio album "North," scheduled to be released September 4 on Atlantic. Here's a factoid to make you feel old: “North,” their fourth, is the band's first all-new album in a decade. Band mates Rob Thomas, Paul Doucette, Kyle Cook and Brian Yale wrote the album together last summer in Nashville before relocating to Calabasas, CA to record with Grammy-winning producer Matt Serletic. “The title refers to us finding our way,” says Matchbox Twenty’s Doucette in a release. “We went into this record with a lot of material. What happens when you take an extremely gifted, Grammy-winning producer and top songwriters and pair them with an “American Idol” winner? You get an album that somehow ends up feeling like the synthesis of all their efforts, but with no defining personality at all. On “This Loud Morning,” the second album from season seven “AI” winner David Cook (out today), he has clearly tried to dig deep. He’s tackling major themes here about faith, love, loss and navigating one’s way through this world, but they have the depth of a rain puddle. Matt Serletic, best known for his work with Matchbox...

David Cook is not a morning person.
Throughout his new album, This Loud Morning, available everywhere June 28, there are numerous references to falling skies, suns and stars. The "night keeps calling" him. On the nearly six-minute closer "Rapid Eye Movement," he hoarsely sings his desire to "kill the blinding lights of day."
Who could blame him for wanting to escape reality? In the year that preceded the studio sessions for This Loud Morning, Cook experienced new highs of a successful post-"American Idol" world tour and crushing lows after losing older brother Adam to cancer. David Cook has unveiled music video for his new single "The Last Goodbye". In this clip, he has the whole city of California thinking that he might be dead. His jacket, bag and wallet are found on shore, leading to a speculation that he has drowned. Oblivious to people's concern about his well-being, he stays in his room the whole day after returning from the beach.
The music video is directed by Nigel Dick (Britney Spears, Oasis, Nickelback), and was shot in Malibu earlier this month. "It would have been easy to just set the band up and do a broody performance video," Cook explained to EW. "But I wanted to do something a little more fun."
