For the best part of 20 years Chris Blackburn tried his hand at writing film scripts, a sideline to his day jobs as a newspaper and TV reporter, reality show producer and, currently, as a co-executive producer on Big Brother.
Eighteen months ago he had an idea for a crime drama about a young man whose sister has been brutally murdered, set primarily in a row of vacant houses near his home on the north coast of Nsw.
Blackburn wrote the script and asked his son Tim, a TV editor who has directed several short films to direct. Entitled Burns Point, the film is now in day seven of a 21-day shoot in and around the town of Ballina.
Asked how he.s financed the film, Chris tells If, .It.s mostly me. I.ve saved up for this and put money aside." Cast and crew are working on deferred. fees in some cases.

Films in the rape-revenge genre typically like to highlight in on their more salacious, titillating and lurid elements. The more brutal the rape and, especially, the more vicious the revenge the better.
However, for his debut feature film, The Devil’s 6 Commandments, writer/director Dicky Tanuwidjaya takes the more staid and philosophical route, going for a more artful approach for the revenge sequences and virtually banishing actual sex from the entire production. Tanuwidjaya also stocks his film with multiple peripheral characters with compounding and intersecting moral dilemmas, so that the plot isn’t singularly driven or too one-note.
When we first meet the main character, Nina (Gianna Patterson), she is already a ruthless killing machine who, along with her half-brother Ares (Felino Dolloso), mete out deadly justice to those who deserve it. Although she desperately tries to cling to her black and white notions of good and evil, that she...

To be honest, I don’t know much about the new feature from Rising Pictures titled The Day Hollywood Died, but it has piqued my interest. Accompanied with an emphatic score from composer Henrique Dib and a thrilling title sequence open, it really makes a great first impression. The film tells the story of one man reliving unreliable memories of a heist to try and uncover who he is, and was penned by K.G. Donovan and directed by debutant Ronnie S. Riskalla.
Here is a bit of information I received from a press release. Hopefully a trailer will be released soon.
“The film is ambitious in both plot and scope, featuring a rumbling score usually reserved for major Hollywood blockbusters and packed full of action, comedy, drama and thrills. Eschewing the stigma that is usually associated with Australian cinema, the high concept narrative blends thrilling conflict with irresistible dialogue and...
