Last week on “Top Chef” in “The Good Land,” the cheftestants had to honor Native American ingredients and cuisine, which limited the types of ingredients they were allowed to use. In the end the judges eliminated two of them based on that challenge and based on how the chefs had done in that week’s Quickfire: Laura Ozyilmaz and Amanda Turner. That leaves six competitors on the main show (with at least one set to return soon from “Last Chance Kitchen”) competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Soo Ahn, Manny Barella, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller and Michelle Wallace. So what happened in “Door County Fish Boil”?

Fumi Nikaido could be one of several “Shōgun” stars who go on to earn Emmy nominations for their career-best work in the FX series.
Adapted from James Clavell‘s 1975 historical book of the same name, Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks’ limited series follows multiple factions all vying for control over the five Regents in Japan at the end of the 16th century. Meanwhile, a British sailor (Cosmo Jarvis) begins a brand new life after becoming shipwrecked in Japan and entering the service of Hiroyuki Sanada‘s Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
Jarvis and Sanada are both competing for lead actor nominations and so, too, is Anna Sawai. Nikaido, meanwhile, is one of several supporting players who are looking for an Emmy citation for their work on the show. Nikaido plays Ochiba no Kata, a consort of the Japanese leader Taikō (Taikō’s death is the incident that triggers the five Regents power...

“Top Chef” hasn’t finished “Last Chance Kitchen” for the season just yet, but the second-chance after show has reached a major milestone. In the two-part “Mid-Season Finale,” host and judge Tom Colicchio sent someone back into the main competition. Watch part one above, and scroll down for part two.
Charly Pierre entered “Lck” this week after he was eliminated from the main competition in “Supper Club,” where the cheftestants had to team up to make traditional five-course Supper Club meals. Pierre was in charge of the fish dish on the losing team, and he drastically overcooked it, so he was cooked. “Being cut on ‘Top Chef’ sucked,” he said. Now as he sought redemption, “I’m doing it for Haiti, doing it for New Orleans, and my restaurant and my sous chef and my cooks. We’ll do it one challenge at a time.”

Phillipa Soo is the latest addition to the cast of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming ABC series “Dr. Odyssey,” Variety has learned.
The “Hamilton” alum will star in the series alongside previously announced cast members Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson. Plot and character details for the show are being kept under wraps, but sources say the series is a medical procedural set on a cruise ship. It is slated to premiere during the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
Soo starred in the original Broadway production of “Hamilton” in the role of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton. She has received Tony, Grammy and Emmy nominations for her work in the smash hit musical, with the last award nod coming after a recording of the original cast was released on Disney+. Onscreen, she has starred in films like “Tick, Tick… Boom!” (which saw her once again working with “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda) and in shows like “Dopesick” and “Shining Girls.

ABC’s forthcoming drama Dr. Odyssey continues to add to its cast.
Phillipa Soo (Hamilton) has joined the drama from Ryan Murphy Television, which scored a straight-to-series order in March. She’ll star opposite Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson in the series, which is slated for next season at the network.
Details about Dr. Odyssey are being kept quiet, but sources describe it as a medical show set on a cruise ship, with elements of House and Murphy’s 2000s FX drama Nip/Tuck. Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans) and Joe Baken (American Horror Stories) are writing, and Paris Barclay (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, NYPD Blue) will direct. Disney’s 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Television are producing.
Dr. Odyssey will be the first new broadcast show from Murphy’s company since 911: Lone Star premiered on Fox in early 2020. It will join another Murphy-produced series,...

Death, taxes, and one-to-three Hong Sang-soo movies per year. I much prefer the latter, and it’s nice knowing we’re just a month out from In Our Day, his 30th feature and latest on which he serves as director, writer, producer, cinematographer, and composer. Following last year’s Directors’ Fortnight debut, the film begins a rollout on May 17 at Film at Lincoln Center before expanding; naturally, there is a trailer.
As Michael Frank said in his review, “In Our Day remains straightforward in its filmmaking, attaining depth through dialogue designed to cause the viewer to think about the value and meaning of the art they consume––among other things, the film itself. It’s cyclical in a way, and Hong knows that, adding to his collection of understated, underseen films with great performances.”

Another episode of “Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen,” another opportunity for Tom Colicchio to explain to eliminated contestants who the hell the new guy is: Soo Ahn, this season’s secret 16th cheftestant. This was a triple threat match, though, since this week’s “Top Chef” episode, “The Wright Way,” ended in the double elimination of Kaleena Bliss and Alisha Elenz. This would be a single elimination match, though, with just one chef of the three being sent home at the end. So what happened in “Plates Aplenty”? Watch the episode above, or read on to find out.
Alisha and Kaleena were eliminated as a team in a challenge inspired by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, so “Lck” brought a little more architecture to the kitchen for this redemptive cookoff. The chefs were presented with a variety of dishes and vessels with which they would plate their meals. They would choose...

After two “Top Chef” challenges there have been two eliminations: David Murphy in “Chef’s Test” and Valentine Howell Jr. in “Living the High Life.” So they went head-to-head in “Last Chance Kitchen” for a chance to return to the competition … Except they didn’t. David was nowhere to be found. Perhaps his bottom-three cookoff in “Chef’s Test” served as its own kind of “Last Chance Kitchen,” because there’s no mention of him at all in this week’s first “Lck.” As far as I can tell he’s out for good. Watch this week’s “Lck” above.
Instead, Valentine had to battle Soo Ahn, a secret 16th cheftestant who the show added to the competition specifically for “Lck.” He’ll have to win five times for a chance to enter the main competition at all. Tom Colicchio gave him and Valentine a challenge that flipped Valentine’s last challenge on its head.

“Top Chef” started its 21st season last week with 15 cheftestants vying for the grand prize, but the show revealed there will be a 16th contestant entering the kitchen: Soo Ahn will fight his way through “Last Chance Kitchen” for a chance to win a spot on the main show and ultimately win the whole competition. In past seasons Brooke Williamson, Joe Flamm and current host Kristen Kish won “Lck” and then came back to win the grand prize. Can he make that arduous climb?
“Top Chef” is unique in giving its eliminated contestants a chance to earn their way back into the competition. In the digital after-show “Last Chance Kitchen,” hosted and judged by Tom Colicchio, the ousted chefs face off against each other to complete a challenging culinary task in a limited time. The loser is eliminated from the show for good, while the winner gets to stay in...

Berlinale co-directors Carlo Chatrian and Mariette Rissenbeek are going out with a bang in their final year, with a lineup unveiled today featuring the latest works by Olivier Assayas, Bruno Dumont, Mati Diop, Hong Sang-soo, Abderrahmane Sissako, Jane Schoenbrun, Alonso Ruizpalacios, Matias Pineiro, Travis Wilkerson, Kazik Radwanski, Annie Baker, and more.
When the co-directors were asked by Screen Daily about their departure, Chatrian said, “It’s quite simple. Mariette and I had a mandate of five years. It is true that at the beginning I said that I was willing to go on because there was a shared will with the [German] Ministry [of Culture] to go on. But then the people who have the responsibility to see the future of the Berlinale thought this structure of two leaders was not the right one and I don’t consider myself able to run the festival alone. And that was the decision of the Ministry.
