His legendary horse
Man o' War retains a renown even today (2012) that many Americans who don't follow horse-racing assume that horse won the Triple Crown. In face, Riddle refused to enter him in the 1920 Kentucky Derby, claiming that a horse shouldn't be asked to run a mile and a quarter so early in his 3-year-old season. But just five weeks later Riddle ran him in (and won) the Belmont Stakes, then run at a mile and three-eighths - 220 yards longer.
