Eco-horror isn’t a sub-genre that gets talked about a ton unfortunately. It can be anything from animals attacking due to their sudden craving of human flesh like Grizzly or even just due to man not putting enough respect on the name of nature like in Long Weekend. The hey day of these is undoubtedly the 70s with things like Prophecy, The Swarm, Piranha, Phase 4, and a few other standouts. While the output certainly slowed down, there are more than a few standouts in the late 90s and even 21st century. We can’t seem to stop screwing up the planet and as we do, we get reminded that the planet may just fight back in ways like what is shown in Day After Tomorrow or to a hilarious degree in The Happening. A unique one that failed to make its budget back, even with good reviews and scores, is...

The early days of the pandemic were like living in some unholy vortex. Stores were indefinitely shuttered. The streets were eerily abandoned. And the threat of Covid lurked around every corner. While it has been four years since those rudimentary times, and we’ve returned to some normalcy, the danger still exists in hushed whispers and the shadows that line our periphery. When I recently reflected back upon 2020, I couldn’t help but recall a pair of apocalyptic-style films that perfectly capture the paranoia and the fear that an outbreak breeds – Barry Levinson’s The Bay and John Erick Dowdle’s Quarantine.
Mutilated bodies, shared delusions, and guttural terror. I shudder to think about the last four years of living. What could have lasted only a few weeks – remember when the lockdowns were expected to last just a fortnight? – turned into four years lost. The mere notion that the pandemic...

The death date arrived on Manifest Season 4 Episode 20, but the Netflix hit left one character's fate up in the air.
Yes, we're talking about Captain Daly (Frank Deal).
Thankfully, Netflix's Tudum unveiled never-before-seen footage, which clears up that mystery grisly.
While many characters, including Angelina, turned to ash before the remaining survivors went through The Glow to get another chance, Captain Daly was last seen when he was killed off earlier in the season.
The exciting scene picked up after the passengers left the plane for the final time in 2013.
Vance was shown in the Manifest series finale to be rushing onto the plane after everyone left to investigate the 11 missing passengers.
Thanks to the deleted scene, we know what happened, and it's exactly what you expected -- we think.
As Vance and his fellow agents arrive on the plane, they find Captain Daly in a small area of the aircraft.

Angelina’s hanging out among unhoused families as Netflix’s Manifest season four episode 12 begins. She’s made friends with a young girl and shows off her scarred hand, explaining it’s so special that God even made it glow just yesterday.
Angelina (Holly Taylor) believes God needs her to prepare for the day of judgment.
Ben’s dad, Steve, helps fix a sink while Cal (Ty Doran) watches. Cal’s sorry Steve had to go back to work to help support them, and he hates that he can’t get a job for fear of being discovered. Steve assures him it’s okay and that he needs to keep being careful.
Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) is having a horrible day, and a visit from Zeke (from the glow) is the only thing that brightens up her mood.

Manifest, which is preparing to land for one final season on Netflix after its untimely cancellation by NBC, has been nothing short of a bumpy ride. However, the TV series has captivated viewers with its story of the Montego Airways Flight 828 passengers, who landed in New York City to the shock of a lifetime. They had been missing for five and a half years and presumed dead in which time their loved ones all aged, but they returned completely unchanged.
Throughout three seasons, we’ve watched the passengers struggle to adapt to their new reality, which has changed their relationships with their families, made them garner often-unwanted attention, and put them in difficult and dangerous situations as their return gave them prophetic visions and thoughts known as “Callings.”
But that’s not all, so before things get rolling again, let’s look back at where the show left us…

The intriguing, complicated mysteries of "Manifest" are about to be solved once and for all. The supernatural series, which was canceled last year by NBC, will officially return this fall for a final season on Netflix after the streamer decided to give it one last chance to fly. Given that the once-heroic platform rarely rescues high-profile shows these days, and more often cancels trippy ones like this (see: "The Oa"), it'll be especially interesting to see how this last season plays out.
The show is set to return on the exact anniversary of when its protagonists, the passengers of Montego Air Flight 828, landed five years in the future in its pilot episode. Ahead of its November premiere, a new trailer dropped at Netflix's Tudum festival today. Check out your first look at "Manifest" season 4 here.

If the horror offerings that came out before Halloween didn't live up to your expectations, then take note that The Bay (review) hits VOD and limited theatres staring today, November 2nd, and in honor of the occasion we had a chance to speak with one of the film's stars, Kether Donohue.
In our chat Kether shared her experiences working with the film's iconic director, Barry Levinson; told us how her part in The Bay was a real "dream come true"; talked about the found footage sub-genre as a whole; and lots more. Read on for the highlights!
When did you film The Bay? Am I correct in thinking it was completed some time ago but is only just now finally getting released?
Kether Donohue: Yes! It feels like just yesterday, but I filmed The Bay in September and October of 2010.
How did you first come on board the project?...

Looking at the trailers for The Bay made me wonder if Barry Levinson was slumming as a filmmaker. It’s been a while since he has made a feature film that really worked, and some of his recent movies like Envy and Man of the Year were duds. Sure, he did make You Don’t Know Jack which featured Al Pacino in one of his best (and non-bombastic) performances but that was relegated to HBO and not the big screen.
Here, Levinson looks to bring us another found footage movie which is a genre that just won’t die. As I sat down in the theatre I couldn’t help but to wonder if the director of Rain Man had run out of ideas and was just looking for any job to take on.
Well, it looks like I owe Mr. Levinson an apology because The Bay is not only...

Director: Barry Levinson
Writer: Michael Wallach
Stars: Kristen Connolly, Jane McNeill, Stephen Kunken, Frank Deal, Will Rogers and Christopher Denham
Environmental catastrophe is back in the headlines this week, and The Bay delivers a doozy, a plague of fish-eating parasites mutated to the size of kittens courtesy of the steroid-soaked run-off from a factory farm.
Once fish stocks start dying off these creatures must seek another host species and Man is definitely the next best place to hide.
Academy Award™ regular Barry Levinson constructs a found footage narrative around this scenario that’s believably and consistently scary. It purports to represent the government-confiscated audio-visual material culled from the tiny Chesapeake Bay resort of Claridge, July 4th 2009. Phone cameras, CCTV, text messages, Skype and Face Time chats, actual news footage and 9-1-1 recordings are pieced together to form a chronological account of The Day The Town Died. With The Bay (review) hitting theatres and VOD this weekend we sat down with director Barry Levinson to talk horror, found footage, Isopods, and more!
"The Bay kind of evolved," says Levinson regarding the genesis of the project. "I was originally asked to do a documentary about the Chesapeake Bay because it is 40% dead. I started collecting the information and the facts, and they were quite frightening. Once everything was in front of me, I didn't think the subject would be best served by doing a documentary. So I thought to myself, 'What if we just told this story in a traditional narrative way?' So from there we brought all of the facts into it, and it just kept getting scarier. This led to the form that the film eventually took. We ended up shooting the film in eighteen days for two million dollars, and that's how it all happened.

Around these parts we're pretty stoked for you cats to see the upcoming flick The Bay (review). Why? Because it's hands down one of the most frightening flicks of the year.
What makes this flick even more scary is that the creatures within the flick, these things called Isopods, are 100% real (check out The Tongue-Eating Isopod website for more). They're out there right now consuming other living creatures. Just take a look at these things...
If that's not the stuff of nightmares, I just don't know what is. That being said, get ready to check out a pair of exclusive images from the film itself. Starring Will Rogers, Stephen Kunken, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal, and Kristen Connolly, The Bay was directed by Barry Levinson. Look for it in theaters and available on VOD November 2, 2012, from Roadside Attractions.
Synopsis
Two million fish washed ashore. One thousand blackbirds dropped from the sky.

Oh, my God, it’s disgusting! Well, what else to expect from a horror movie which deals with parasites, creepy creatures and… isopods like in this completely fresh clip from The Bay! As you already know, Barry Levinson‘s horror opens next month, and now is the perfect time to watch an exclusive fish preparation technique called – isofish! Ok, I just made that up, so what?
Anyway, The Bay story is set in the quaint seaside town of Chesapeake Bay thrives and centers on two biological researchers from France who find a staggering level of toxicity in the water.
As you already guess – they are the good guys who want to prevent natural disaster so they attempt to alert the mayor. He, on the other hand, refuses to create a panic in the docile town and that’s how this nightmare starts…

The first footage from three upcoming horror flicks was shown as the currently kicking ass New York Comic Con, and our own Paul Nomad and Heather Buckley were there typing away like loonies. Read on for what was show from The Bay, Beautiful Creatures, and The Conjuring.
Two very quick clips from The Bay were shown to the audience. It wasn't much but it definitely had people squirming. The first featured tiny Isopods eating a fish from the inside out, and the second showcased the same Isopods crawling beneath a little girl's skin and she's reaching for help.

Title: The Bay Director: Barry Levinson Starring: Kether Donohue, Kristen Connolly, Anthony Reynolds, Andy Stahl, Jody Thompson, Stephen Kunken, Frank Deal, Will Rogers Typically a found footage film means one person just happens to be recording during a phenomenon and just so happens to be committed enough to risk his or her life to keep recording in order to tell the story from beginning to end in a format that just so happens to match a standard screenplay structure. Kudos to director Barry Levinson and writer Michael Wallach for making a movie that actually attempts to compile a more realistic version of found footage, but, in the end, doing so [ Read More ]

If you love some creature features, well, Barry Levinson’s The Bay seems to deliver the goods.
Another found footage nightmare have at least ‘paranormal’ horror movie pedigree as it’s produced by the team of Jason Blum and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity franchise, Insidious) and is directed by Academy Award-winner Levinson (Rain Man, The Natural, Good Morning, Vietnam, Sphere).
Will Rogers, Steven Kunken, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal, Christopher Denham and Kristin Connelly star in this very surprising film for the director of such classics.
Roadside Attractions has released the trailer and we can predict that some genuinely creepy moments are shouldered with some genuinely cliched ones.
Eco-horror The Bay hit limited theaters on November 2nd, 2012.

When most people think of director Barry Levinson, they most likely think of films like Good Morning, Vietnam or Rain Man, the latter of which won him an Oscar as Best Director of 1988. Now, he’s completely shifting gears by bringing us a found footage thriller entitled The Bay.
Today, thanks to The Film Stage, we have the first trailer and poster for the film, which stars Will Rogers, Kristen Connolly, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal, Stephen Kunken, Christopher Denham and Nansi Aluka.

After directing classics like Diner, Rain Man and The Natural, director Barry Levinson is headed down a very different path for his next film, The Bay. Teaming with producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious, the horror film, which is set to premiere as part of the Tiff Midnight Madness slate, tells the story of a toxic outbreak in Chesapeake Bay.
We’ve got the first trailer and poster today, which actually looks to be quite terrifying. I could give or take many of the recent found footage horror films, but considering this takes a slightly more realistic approach it seems to be more unsettling that most in the genre. Check it out below via Apple for the film also starring Will Rogers, Kristen Connolly, Kether Donohue, Frank Deal, Stephen Kunken, Christopher Denham and Nansi Aluka.

Josh Nussbaum, director of photography on Barry Levinson's The Bay, has posted a montage image of behind-the-scenes goodies from the set of the first-person alien sci-fi horror. What catches my eye is the corpse on the bottom right. Awesome. The found footage flick comes from the producers behind Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Rob Zombie's forthcoming The Lords of Salem.
