Fans of “Euphoria” will have to wait even longer for a third season.
Season 3 has been plagued with all sorts of false starts. Last we officially heard, in May 2023, HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi said the third season was expected to air in 2025. However, a new statement from the network announced that production has been delayed.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” a representative for HBO told IndieWire. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
“Euphoria” marked breakout roles for Zendaya (who has won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of teen drug addict Rue), Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Dominic Fike, Barbie Ferreira, Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo, and the late Angus Cloud, who died in 2023. Season 2 concluded in February 2022. Sweeney recently told MTV at SXSW that she was “going into ‘Euphoria'” production next.

Audiences will have to wait a little bit longer to check into “The White Lotus” Season 3.
The third installment of the Emmy-winning HBO anthology series will arrive in 2025, according to chief content officer Casey Bloys.
“‘White Lotus’ Season 3 probably would have been in ’24, that’s pushing to ’25,” Bloys said during a press conference. “It’s shows that we’ve had on the runway and we’re in the middle of shooting, obviously.”
Bloys continued with further updates, “‘Penguin’ would have been in the spring, so we’ve had to adjust across the board. The ‘It’ prequel we’re working on…’Welcome to Derry’ — we had that that scheduled previously for Halloween of ’24. That’s likely pushing into ’25.”
Pending the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike, “Welcome to Derry” will return to production in spring of 2024. “The Last of Us” Season 2 will shoot then as well.
“The White Lotus” Season 3 will be set in Thailand.

“Euphoria” is about to get even darker.
Series creator Sam Levinson told Elle that Season 3 of the hit HBO series will be like a “film noir” focusing on Zendaya’s character Rue as she “explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.” (The interview was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike.)
Zendaya told the outlet that she seeks out roles that are challenging but knows she can’t be playing a high schooler in “Euphoria” forever.
“From a character perspective, I want to find things that will push me,” Zendaya said. “As I get older, you know, I can’t play a teenager for the rest of my life.”
The two-time Emmy winner called Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film “Challengers” her first “leading lady” role that kicks off her more “grown-up” phase.
“Euphoria” Season 3 is expected to air in 2025 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Fans of HBO’s “Euphoria” won’t be left too euphoric over the latest news to come out from the premium cabler.
Speaking with Deadline, HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi said that amid productions getting repeatedly halted by the ongoing WGA strike and creator Sam Levinson’s “The Idol” duties, Season 3 of the Emmy winner likely won’t air until 2025. This news comes after various reports that the series would resume shooting in summer 2023. “Euphoria” has been off the air since Season 2 concluded in February 2022. Zendaya has won two Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series Emmys for her role.
“’Euphoria’ is one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production on ‘Idol’ but at this point, we don’t have countless scripts,” Orsi said. “We can’t start shooting, so the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam,...

“Euphoria” fans received a small tease of things to come this week courtesy of star Sydney Sweeney. The actress, an Emmy nominee for playing Cassie Howard on the hit HBO show, said she’s excited to see where her character goes in Season 3.
“Cassie definitely has a lot more life to live and I can’t wait for everyone to see what Season 3 brings,” Sweeney told Indiewire as part of an interview to promote her performance in the HBO film “Reality.”
Sweeney has remained relatively tight-lipped about the Sam Levinson show while promoting “Reality,” which could land her a third Emmy nomination after her double breakthrough last year with “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus.” Speaking to E! News previously, Sweeney said of Cassie, “I know that the fans need her to somehow figure out how to get her shit together, but I really hope for a while that I can enjoy crazy Cassie.

Jeremy O. Harris is far from euphoric over the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.
The “Euphoria” producer shared during Variety and Kering’s Women in Motion panel at Cannes that showrunner Sam Levinson will not cross picket lines to push Season 3 of the Emmy-winning series into production amid the strike. Harris in turn urged Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav to “come to that table” of negotiations.
“All I’ll say is Sam Levinson is not a scab,” Harris said. “He’s not a scab. David Zaslav, make a deal. That’s what I’ll say about Season 3 of ‘Euphoria.’ Make a deal, David. It’s easy. Just come to that table.”
“Euphoria” Season 3 was previously announced to go into production this year, with costume designer Heidi Bivens teasing a June 2023 start date during the “The Run Through with Vogue” podcast. Season 3 is also set to mark Emmy winner Zendaya’s directorial debut.

The third season of HBO’s series “Euphoria” may occur after high school.
The gritty teen show’s costume designer, Heidi Bivens, recently told Vogue that discussions are brewing in the air that the show may jump as far as five years into the future for its third season.
Bivens described the jump as a “total trip” for audiences. The show typically deals with high school-based challenges for the teenage characters.

While HBO’s hit series “Euphoria” is plenty buzzworthy for its cast and storylines, the show’s craftspeople take pride in using the artistry of makeup, costume design and hair to support the specific story being told – which ultimately allows viewers to feel seen in the various characters’ looks.
“The feedback that was really life-changing from thousands of people was that they felt seen and heard and excited to use makeup to explore who they are and express who they are,” department head of makeup Donni Davy said in the latest installment of TheWrap’s How I Did It, sponsored by HBO.

Creating looks for one of the most popular shows on television can come with a lot of pressure. And while not everyone has the guts, Euphoria costume designer Heidi Bivens has learned to trust hers fully. "Going into a film or a television show in the very beginning, I often don't know what my approach is going to be," she exclusively told E! News. "It's something that I feel out intuitively." That intuition—which she's developed working as a stylist for fashion magazines and on movies like Mid90s and Spring Breakers—has steered her in the right direction, including towards her third Emmy nomination (one of 16 the HBO series received this year). Nailing...

The current record holder for youngest Best Drama Actress Emmy winner is Zendaya, who took the 2020 prize for “Euphoria” less than three weeks after turning 24. Now that she is nominated for the HBO show’s second season, she could make further history as the youngest woman to ever collect multiple lead acting Emmys for a continuing series. In doing so, she would shatter the precedent set by 29-year-old comedic champ Mary Tyler Moore (“The Dick Van Dyke Show”) in 1966. She presently ranks behind only Peggy Lipton (“The Mod Squad”) as the second youngest two-time Best Drama Actress nominee.

For the six Emmy contenders on our Meet the Experts: Costume Designers panel, there is no one set starting point in their creative processes. “It definitely depends on the project,” “Euphoria” costume designer Heidi Bivens says during our group discussion with Sharon Long (“The Great”), Donna Zakowska (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Zaldy (“RuPaul’s Drag Race“), Christine Bieselin Clark (“Star Trek: Picard”) and Laura Montgomery (“What We Do in the Shadows”). “If it’s contemporary, I like to do a lot of people-watching and definitely get ideas from real-life characters. It’s just so specific to the project.”
When she joined “Euphoria,” Bivens did a lot of people-watching outside high schools, waiting for when school would get out to see what kids were wearing. She also turned to where kids really live these days: social media. “I can do a deep dive and go down that wormhole of social media, so...

To older generations, the newest generation coming up always feels the most confounding and intimidating — as exemplified by small-screen portrayals of the formidable Gen Z. In The White Lotus, an affluent co-ed, dressed in a relaxed college sweatshirt and denim shorts, scathingly and astutely mocks fellow guests vacationing at a luxury resort in Maui. In Euphoria‘s fictional Los Angeles suburb, a high schooler teeters and stomps in vintage Prada kitten heels and a tight minidress while attempting to assert herself during a teenage rite of passage: a New Year’s Eve party.
Sydney Sweeney plays and deftly distinguishes the formidable, complex and often-contradictory Cassie on Euphoria and Olivia on The White Lotus — and earned nominations for both turns. Similarly, their Emmy-nominated costumes — by Euphoria‘s Heidi Bivens and The White Lotus‘ Alex Bovaird — also are distinctive depictions of young women navigating expectations...

From bringing back the 1990s in Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy” to styling for a lesbian cruise on “Hacks,” the Emmy-nominated costume designers delivered a wealth of contemporary looks.
Kameron Lennox landed her first nom for “Pam & Tommy,” which took audiences back a couple of decades as Lily James and Sebastian Stan captured the wild antics and looks of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.
Perfecting the iconic “Baywatch” red swimsuit was imperative. The original suit was made by Tyr swimwear, which was not only able to match the red precisely but also helped her find the right fabric and cut. “On Pam, the way that it was cut was very sexy,” says Lennox. “The leg was high-cut to elongate her leg and cut low on the sides to accentuate her bust.”

Forest Whitaker, Thomasin McKenzie, Vera Farmiga and Richard E. Grant will lead the voice cast for “Gossamer,” an animated series adaptation of Lois Lowry’s novel.
The eight-part, half-hour animated series is produced by Bron Media’s virtual production and service company Bron Digital, which develops premium animation, interactive games and movies using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.
Rounding out the cast for “Gossamer” is Wilmer Valderrama, Alanna Masterson and Courtney Rosemont, who makes her debut.
“Gossamer” is based on the young adult novel by Lowry, whose books include “The Giver” and “The Willoughbys” — the latter of which was previously adapted by Bron as an animated feature for Netflix.
Written by Crystal Meers, and directed by Azazel Jacobs and Heidi Bivens, “Gossamer” takes children and adults on a journey through the world of dreams and nightmares.
The show centers on Littlest One, who is an in-training Gossamer, a fairy who is a dream giver.

HBO’s gritty teen drama, “Euphoria,” had an immediate impact with Season 1, becoming a cultural phenomenon as the streamer’s second most-watched show after “Game of Thrones.” It pulverized viewers with Gen Z trauma about sex, drugs, violence, and social media. As IndieWire’s Jim Hemphill observed, the “conceptual and technical fearlessness” of showrunner Sam Levinson and and his craft teams tapped the “passion, angst, rage” of its teenagers (led by Emmy winner Zendaya as drug addict and unreliable narrator Rue).
Yet “Euphoria” has underperformed at the Creative Arts Emmys, collecting only two wins out of five nominations for Season 1 in 2020. These were for contemporary (non-prosthetic) makeup and original song (“All For Us” by Labrinth). Then, in 2021, “Euphoria” was snubbed for its two special episodes after being nominated for its kinetic and colorful cinematography, and once more for contemporary costumes and makeup.

Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with Amazon, for this edition we look at how cinematographer Marcell Rév, costume designer Heidi Bivens and supervising editor Julio C. Perez IV reinvented the tone and style of HBO’s “Euphoria” for its second season.
The first season of the HBO series “Euphoria” was an audacious cinematic adrenaline rush, a compendium of boldly expressionistic camera moves, intensely visceral music cues and cuts, and vibrant colors and lighting effects designed to convey the kinetic existences of its teenage characters. For Season 2, showrunner and director Sam Levinson wanted to take the show in new directions, leaving behind the immediacy of Season 1 in favor of a more reflective, contemplative tone — yet one with plenty of room for the passion, angst, rage, and conceptual and technical...

“Cruella” (Disney),” “Dune” (Warner Bros.), and “Coming 2 America” (Amazon Prime) were the big film winners Wednesday night at the 24th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards. “Cruella” designer and two-time Oscar winner Jenny Beavan won for period; Denis Villeneuve’s epic “Dune” took sci-fi honors for costume designers Jacqueline West and Robert Morgan; and Oscar winner Ruth Carter (“Black Panther”) earned the contemporary prize for “Coming 2 America.”
Held at the The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, the annual awards celebrated the best in film, TV, and short-form costume design in eight categories that spanned fantasy, contemporary, and period works. Show hosts were actors Andrew Rannells (“The Prom”) and Casey Wilson (“The Shrink Next Door”).

Sunday night’s episode of “Euphoria,” in which Lexi’s school play sent shock waves through both the auditorium on screen and the series’ fan base at home, was filled with stunning moments and set pieces, but none was as shocking or gleefully entertaining as the musical number at the story’s climax. Set to the ‘80s pop staple “Holding Out for a Hero,” it’s a vigorously homoerotic extravaganza in which a fictionalized surrogate for the show’s deeply conflicted Nate romps among thrusting, grinding, and glistening men in skimpy attire.
Choreographer Ryan Heffington, who spoke to IndieWire following the episode’s premiere, remembered that the description of the scene in the original script was fairly brief. “There was a lot of massaging and body oil,” Heffington said with a laugh, adding that it was nevertheless “thrilling to read because it was clear that I’d finally get to...

The second episode of “Euphoria” Season 2 begins with a dreamy sequence in a luxurious walk-in closet as Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) — the alpha of the show’s many catty, mean girls — plays dress up with a wealthy mom’s clothes while babysitting.
She slinks into designer silk dresses and slides lavish jewels onto her fingers, all while dreamily staring at her richer, more sophisticated reflection in the mirror. The fantasy comes to a sudden halt when the mom comes home earlier than expected, and she’s forced to hastily change back into her denim mini skirt and halter top.
But really, this act of dressing up and sartorial reinvention is a pronounced theme throughout the entire show, and for every character in it. The show’s costume design became...

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have split after two and a half years of marriage — and seven years as a couple, the Associated Press reports.
The former couple “say their split was ‘mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year,’ ” according to AP.
“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly,” says the statement released by longtime Aniston publicist Stephen Huvane. “Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative.

We've already got "Spring Breakers" fatigue and the movie hasn't even opened yet. But the buzzed-about flick, starring bikini-clad teeny boppers like Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens and a gun-toting James Franco, is about to get even more hype with its very own Opening Ceremony collaboration.
The New York-based retailer is partnering with "Spring Breakers" for a line of "fun-in-the-sun essentials," Women's Wear Daily reports. The line will include sweatpants, beach towels, crop tops and, of course, bikinis (but no fake tattoos and guns-as-accessories, as far as we know).
The designs, which are bound to be bright and slightly Nsfw (think pot leaves, the slogan "Dtf"), were conceived by Heidi Bivens, "Spring Breakers" costume designer, and artist Todd James a.k.a. Reas.
Surprised that Opening Ceremony, a favorite among the downtown hipster crowd, is teaming up with a Selena Gomez-headlined project? Don't be: The movie is much edgier fare than most people realize,...

Justin Theroux might look like a bad boy, but he's a romantic at heart. The screenwriter/ actor proved he's ready to put a ring on it when he popped the question to his girlfriend of just under 18 months on his 41st birthday.
"Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," his rep confirmed to People.
The couple first met roughly five years ago when he worked on the set of "Tropic Thunder"—a movie Theroux co-wrote with Ben Stiller — and later co-starred in "Wanderlust."
They began (officially) dating in May 2011. Which means they've been together a long time, in Hollywood years. The engagement comes as no surprise to friends of the couple — or anyone else, for that matter. The actress, 43, has made it clear that she’s smitten by Theroux.
