Oh, Niall Horan. What were you thinking? As Season 24’s Playoffs got underway on The Voice Tuesday evening, the former One Direction heartthrob’s team competed for the chance to advance to the Top 12. And all six — including the Super Save artist that he was allowed to bring back after her elimination — did pretty damn terrifically. There was almost no wrong way that he could go… except one. He had among his contenders a singer who stood head and shoulders above the rest. That she should continue on wasn’t merely obvious, it was, like, mandatory. Yet he cut her...

The new Amy Winehouse biopic will focus on her “extraordinary genius, creativity and honesty that infused everything she did”. Or so we were told. But then we saw the pictures.
Marisa Abela was pictured outside London jazz bar Ronnie Scott’s, with the singer’s signature beehive in disarray; black eyeliner smeared around her eyes; a distraught expression on her face. “F***ing revolting,” said one comment in response. Some took issue with Abela’s lack of resemblance to Winehouse. Others took issue with the fact this film, Back to Black, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is being made at all.
Given the vulture-like efficiency with which her life was picked over, it’s near-impossible to think of a sincere reason to make a movie about Winehouse – at least not one that isn’t motivated by greed. This July will mark 12 years since her death from accidental alcohol poisoning. Despite her...

Never Mind the Buzzcocks has been cancelled after 28 series, with the BBC confirming the much-loved show will not be returning.
The ingenious - and often hilarious - pop music panel quiz arrived on screens way back in 1996, and ran for over 260 episodes.
Hosts including Mark Lamarr, Simon Amstell and Rhod Gilbert have appeared alongside team captains Phil Jupitus, Sean Hughes, Bill Bailey and Noel Fielding. Here are some of the greatest moments.
1. Boys will be boys!
Preston took an immediate dislike to being described by Simon Amstell as a "professional celebrity" on introduction, before Amstell joked that his band The Ordinary Boys have no fans.
But it was when he began to read extracts from Preston's then-wife Chantelle Houghton's biography - with the line "The photoshoot was for the Daily Mail, which made me feel really posh and upmarket" - that he stormed off the show in disgust.

What better way to celebrate the life of one of the world's greatest ever singers? A man who sold over 150 million records and won eleven Grammy Awards?
Scoop up some rejected singers from The Voice UK, gather some rejected props from The Voice UK and assemble some judges not good enough to be rejected from The Voice UK. Then put it on BBC One.
Spread all over last Saturday night like tar, Frank Sinatra: Our Way featured seven 'talented but unknown music acts from across the UK' who were competing to win a slot to perform at the singer's centenary concert later this year.
Presented by Alexander Armstrong and Rochelle Humes, who were both doing the best with what scraps they had, we were confronted with a judging panel that comprised of Rufus Hound, Mica Paris, Dave Stewart and Leo Green. And they had absolutely no sway at all.

Failed The Voice UK contestant Bob Blakeley has been reduced to tears after being offered a six-month deal with music industry expert Mike Batt on live TV.
Viewers were left outraged after the coaches failed to turn for Blakeley's barnstorming performance of 'Cry Me a River' on Saturday's (January 18) episode.
Appearing on BBC Breakfast this morning (January 23), the 55-year-old was stunned to receive a surprise message from Batt - who wrote 'Bright Eyes' and discovered Katie Melua - offering his services as a mentor to try to land him a record deal, potentially with his own label, Dramatico.
"Usually when the chairs don't turn around you think, fair enough, but he was just so phenomenal," Batt said. "I just felt such a sense of injustice that I thought I ought to do something.
"I would like to be the fifth person that did turn round... I would love to mentor you,...

Bad Education and The Call Centre are at the centre of BBC Three's Christmas schedule this year.
Bad Education's festive special will see Jack Whitehall's character Alfie staging the Abbey Grove Christmas play - only to decide on a mash-up of The Nutcracker and RoboCop called Robocracker.
Elsewhere on BBC Three, hit documentary The Call Centre will return for the holidays, with CEO Nev Wilshire deciding to start a Christmas choir and tea lady Hayley battling the budget to stage a successful office Christmas party.
The channel's festive schedule is rounded out by a Christmas episode of Bluestone 42, which sees the team being joined by over-confident Corporal Gordon House on his first tour of duty.
Meanwhile, BBC Four also revealed its plans for Christmas, with Strictly Come Dancing host Len Goodman fronting Dance Band Days - an exploration of the British dance bands which paved the way for modern pop.
