- Variety show impresario of the London Palladium, and son of "the father of modern ventriloquists" Fred Russell. His grandfather was also a ventriloquist Russ Carr. A former music hall manager himself, his brother Wallace Parnell ran the vaudeville managing company Tivoli Ciranti. He was also an uncle of the band leader Jack Parnell.
