- Was at the scene of the accident of actor Paul Walker. Paul was killed on impact when a car that he was riding in crashed and burst into flames. Shane was one of the first people to be interviewed by the press about the accident.
- At the age of fourteen an older teen put a 9mm pistol to Shane's head and asked him if he thought the gun was loaded before pulling the trigger. The gun was loaded but had jammed earlier. The teenager was high on meth and thought it'd be funny to see if it'd eventually fire. Just a few days later Shane was jumped by seven kids at school and beaten so severely that he was left with permanent damage to his eyes and jaw. Two months later he was in a snow-boarding accident and suffered a concussion and temporary amnesia. Over the course of the following year he experienced memory lapses (at one point not knowing what the alphabet was), occasional fainting and other concerning affects. However, various MRI testing was done and nothing turned up in the reports.

- Was in five major car accidents before his 21st birthday. In the first accident he suffered a mild head wound. In the second accident his mother and grandmother were nearly killed, both receiving life-threatening wounds to their heads, while Shane received injuries to his ribs. This accident was the first in a series of unfortunate events which landed the then five-year-old Shane and his one-year-old brother, Jeremy, in foster care. Shane eventually returned home after a couple of years, but Jeremy remained with his second foster family until he was eighteen years old. Shane received another head wound in another car accident when he was in middle school. When he was nineteen a car that he was a passenger in was struck and totaled by a truck. When he was twenty he crashed and totaled his first car when a buck stepped out onto the highway in the middle of the night.
