Nick Cannon became a parent for the first time after fathering the children he had with his ex-wife Mariah Carey. Still, the nerves of impending fatherhood didn’t get any easier for the actor. He was so nervous when Carey was giving birth that he reportedly ended up making a humorous error.

Cannon may be an experienced father now, but when he first became a parent he flew into a bit of a panic. He and his wife, Mariah Carey, welcomed twins into the world for the first time, which coincidentally fell on their wedding anniversary. Given this was his first experience handling a pregnancy, Cannon reportedly rushed to the hospital when Carey was experiencing contractions. But in his panic, Cannon ended up in the wrong section of the hospital.

The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, known for its oft-critical reports on Hollywood’s hiring practices and portrayals of underrepresented groups, is launching a “new focus” that will measure the film and TV industry’s depictions of a wide range of political issues, including abortion, gun violence, voting, marriage equality and interracial relationships.
The new approach comes in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning Roe v. Wade and concerns that other long-held rights also might be in danger.
“With the curtailing of reproductive rights, it is not only necessary to find legal solutions to protect marginalized communities, but it is essential to educate and inform audiences about these topics,” said Dr. Stacy L. Smith, founder of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. “Entertainment has a unique ability to reach viewers and provide that education. In the year since the Los Angeles Times‘ bombshell report about systemic problems at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) — including the startling fact that the organization had no Black members — the massive reform effort of the nonprofit organization behind the Golden Globes has satisfied some but left others still crying out for proof of meaningful change. Although the organization has taken visible steps toward reform following NBC’s cancellation of the 2022 Golden Globes telecast — such as admitting members of color and banning studio gifts — multiple insiders told TheWrap that the HFPA itself remains, in the words of one international journalist who sued the group, “corrupt to the core.” Doubts about the extent of HFPA’s reform efforts may be one reason that the group’s most vocal critics seem to have gone radio silent in 2022. NBC, which signed an eight-year, $60 million-per-year licensing deal in 2018, has remained tight-lipped about plans for a 2023 show.

The future of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been in question for months, ever since the Los Angeles Times exposed its loose financial practices and lack of diversity. But with NBC’s announcement on Monday that it would not broadcast the Golden Globes in 2022, it began to seem that the HFPA might not survive the crisis.
Within the group, there has been infighting over how to reform and how to respond to its critics. But there also continues to be genuine bafflement about how things escalated to this point, as well as mounting anger that the clubby organization has become the focus of Hollywood’s struggles over diversity.
In their view, much of the criticism has been opportunistic. The most resonant detail from the Times’ report was the revelation that none of the HFPA’s nearly 90 members are Black, a fact which has been public information since at least...

Hollywood PR bigwig Rogers and Cowan/PMK is the latest to be hit with by the economic realities of Covid-19, with Deadline confirming that the company has laid off about 10% of its staff across all divisions.
“We had to make fiscally responsible moves to prepare for our future,” company chairman Cindi Berger said. “The decisions were both heartbreaking and difficult.”
The agency’s roster from actors and athletes to directors and musicians includes Joe and Anthony Russo, Brie Larson, Glenn Close, John David Washington, Jamie Foxx, Sandra Bullock, David Beckham, Britney Spears and the Rolling Stones.
Berger told Variety, which broke the news today, that the cuts came in R&cpmk’s offices in Los Angeles, New York and London.

California’s premier culinary talents will be joining forces this week along with host Tony Hale and event co-chair/Rogers & Cowan CEO Mark Owens to raise money for global non-profit organization, March of Dimes.
The 2019 Signature Chefs Auction takes place on Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Sls Hotel in Beverly Hills, with 12 local master chefs serving up tastings of their most highly-acclaimed dishes.
“March of Dimes really delivers a simple message that if the moms are healthy then you can have strong babies,” Owens told TheWrap. “It is a real problem here in California where about 9% of babies are born premature, which is the number one cause of death for children five years and under. It is not an easy problem to solve, but it is a solvable problem,” he explained.

When major PR firms merge, they’re usually consolidating in order to stay on top. It’s a little different for former standalones Pmk-Bnc (which has merged at least four times in 40 years) and Rogers & Cowan: Both are owned by the publicly traded Interpublic Group (2018 revenue: $9.71 billion). Now, they will form a single firm (yet to be named) that will represent more than 500 clients and 30 brands.
So why the change? The combo creates a more impressive client list, and will allow them to trim the expenses and other redundancies that come when two entities merge. It’s the easiest and fastest way to become bigger while meeting the demands of their corporate overlords.
Of course, bigger is not always better. Still, when the new company officially launches January 1, it will dwarf Kelly Bush and Mara Buxbaum’s ID-pr. It will also become one of the top 20 PR firms in the world,...

CEO Dawn Hudson oversees a staff of more than 300 who conduct the Academy’s day-to-day business.

At this point, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ governors election looks more like a round-up than a race; more than 180 members have declared their interest in filling 17 contested spots on the 54-member Board of Governors.
Voting in the run-off round starts on Monday and ends May 18. That will narrow the present field to a maximum of four nominees per branch in the final round, which follows.
For now, there are on average about 11 candidates in the running for each slot. In the casting directors and costume design branches, only three members have declared for each slot. But not so in the actors branch, where 17 members — including Brie Larson, Jacki Weaver and Meg Ryan — are vying for the spot being vacated by termed-out Tom Hanks; or the producers, executives, and public relations branches, all of which have a bumper crop of candidates. Marvin Levy, currently a governor in the public relations branch,...

Kathy Griffin, who last year suffered backlash after posing with what appeared to be the decapitated head of President Trump, took to Twitter on Monday to offer a grim assessment of her current situation, saying that she’d been placed on a “kill list” and subjected to constant threats.
In a multi-part social-media jeremiad, Griffin also suggested that she’d been bad-mouthed by certain people in the television industry.
Telling her followers that things “have not gotten better for me,” Griffin continued, “In fact, I just found out I’m on a brand new ‘Kill List.’ Constant death threats and threats of violence toward me in very specific ways. None of the social media platforms I need to make a living and sell my tour tickets will step in and help at all.”

The former “My Life on the D-List” star went on to call out “Trump, and his game criminals, and the right leaning alt-right media,” saying they “have not let up on me.”
Calling it “literally a relentless campaign,” Griffin went on to turn her attention to Ryan Seacrest, writing, “I hear Ryan Seacrest is ‘mad’ at me and spreading the word around” because she had hired a stylist who accused him of untoward behavior.
Griffin also said that someone “in the booking dept.” of Stephen Colbert’s show has a “‘bad taste’ about me in their mouth,” saying she’s heard it’s because her former publicist said something “that I am not privy to.”

Griffin also said that someone at “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” a “show I have done many times for free, ” has “a ‘problem with me'” and they’re “spreading the word around.”
Griffin wrapped up her social-media vent, “Ok,now, I will get back to work doing anything and everything I can to sell out every single show on my tour. Times Not Up Yet Love, Kg.”
TheWrap has reached out to a spokesperson for Facebook, as well as to a spokesperson for Seacrest, for comment on Griffin’s statements.
