No one knew how many difficulties existed in the fictional town of Letterkenny when the show revolving around small-town hicks, hockey players and skids launched on Super Bowl Sunday 2016. As it turns out, there were enough “Letterkenny Problems” not only to change the lives of all those involved, but to transform the Canadian TV landscape.
When “Letterkenny” cracks open its final six-pack of episodes Dec. 25 on the Canadian streaming service Crave (and on Dec. 26 on Hulu), it ends an era that includes 74 episodes, seven specials, five live tours, branded clothing and booze, Canadian Screen Awards victories, and a spinoff, “Shoresy,” which wraps filming on its third season in Sudbury, Ont. this month.
The most impressive feat, however, may be in how a show with such specificity, from the vernacular to the sets, catapulted into mainstream pop culture and amassed loyal fanbases across Canada and the U.S.

Canadian comedy Letterkenny is coming to an end. The series will wrap with its upcoming 12th season on Hulu, which will drop all six episodes on December 26, it was announced Thursday. The series, which also streams on Canadian platform Crave, will premiere with all episodes on December 25.
Created by and starring Jared Keeso, the half-hour comedy revolves around the residents of the small, rural, Canadian community of Letterkenny, who belong to one of three groups: the hicks, the skids and the hockey players. The three groups are constantly feuding over seemingly trivial matters that often end with someone getting their ass kicked. In Season 12, the small town contends with a comedy night at Modean’s, a country music hit, the Degens’ bad influence, a new nightclub, and an encore at the Ag Hall. And that’s just for starters.

Coming off another year marked by uncertainty and conflict, ordinary, unlikely heroes take center stage in a slew of new shows. While crime especially the Nordic-inspired kind is not going anywhere, and there are quite a few spectacles waiting around the corner, including Mipcom world premiere “Concordia,” intimate stories about families and friends butting heads but ultimately trying to come together continue to dominate the market stage. There are also more portrayals of strong, complicated women who dare to dream big today or in the past. The following is a list of some of the buzziest titles at Mipcom.

Pitter-patter, let's get at 'er, because the Canadian comedy series "Letterkenny" is back for its 11th season. What started out as a YouTube web series called "Letterkenny Problems" has since grown into one of the funniest and most popular shows on TV, following the residents of Letterkenny, a fictional rural town in Ontario based on show creator Jared Keeso's hometown.
The residents of the small community fall under three major groups: the Hicks, the Skids, and the Hockey Players, but all three are ready for a brew, a brawl, or a beaut at any given opportunity. Whether it's chorin', sharing a Puppers with your best bud, or trading fisticuffs, the residents of "Letterkenny" do it faster, tougher, and with snappier wit than anyone else on the planet. With the return of the show just around the corner, here's everything you big shoots need to know to prepare, and more.

All eyes will be on the Canadian TV industry over the next month as major players such as public broadcaster CBC, Bell Media, Rogers and Corus unveil their 2021-22 upfront plans. ‘Letterkenny’ Producer New Metric Media Teams With The Feldman Agency For Live Entertainment Company
New Metric Media, the Toronto and Los Angeles-based producers of award-winning Hulu/Crave comedy series “Letterkenny” and Netflix/CityTV drama “Bad Blood,” has partnered with talent agency The Feldman Agency to launch a live entertainment company.
Titled Tourbo, the new entity will focus on developing premium popular brands that currently exist as screen-based I.P., podcasts and online content as live touring entertainment for the global stage. The two companies have already tasted success in this regard, having first worked together to bring “Letterkenny Live!,” a 90-minute touring comedy experience based on the series, to North American audiences.
The companies said this success, coupled with the growing demand from creators, brands and audiences for alternative programming, led to the formation of Tourbo.
“Although this current environment may seem like an interesting time to start a live-based venture, we feel strongly about the potential for content and opportunities,” said Jeff Craib,...

In this week’s International TV Newswire, Variety shares the trailer for “Cable Girls’” final season, the Platino Awards adds a market, Vis and Diagonal team on a “Gypsy Bride” series adaptation, and CTV announces new comedy series “Children Ruin Everything.”
“Cable Girls” Final Season Gets Trailer
“Cable Girls” (“Chicas del Cable”) Netflix’s first Spanish Original series, will premiere its fifth and final season on Feb. 14. At a press event on Thursday, the platform shared the trailer for the upcoming season while previewing the coming year.
When “Cable Girls,” premiered on April 28, 2017, it fit snugly into a industrial model – think “Velvet” – which had allowed producer Bambu Producciones to conquer Latin America with its original series rather than reversions or titles dubbed into a neutral Spanish: A female-led period drama exploring social and political themes still relevant today starring a cast of familiar Spanish actors. The eighth annual Atx Television Festival has added panels for “One Day at a Time,” “Veronica Mars,” “Into the Dark: Culture Shock” and “Letterkenny” to its lineup, Variety has learned exclusively.
Additionally, Beau Willimon will return to host his own discussion event and join a panel about playwrights moving to the small screen medium.
Heading down to Austin, Texas for the “One Day at a Time” panel this year will be executive producer Mike Royce and cast members Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, Todd Grinnell and Stephen Tobolowsky. This marks Machado and Gomez’ second consecutive years with the show at the festival, as the 2017 event also featured a panel discussion for the series. “One Day at a Time,” a reboot of the classic family sitcom of the same name, was produced by Sony Pictures Television and ran for three seasons on Netflix. It was also executive produced by Norman Lear and Gloria Calderon Kellett.

Strategic Partners, a presentation of the Atlantic Film Festival, has announced the producers selected to participate as part of the inaugural project exchange with Mexico’s Los Cabos International Film Festival and Brazil’s RioContentMarket, in addition to an incredible line-up of producers and projects. As part of a two year spotlight on Latin America, one Mexican producer with a feature film in development and one Brazilian producer with a television project in development have been invited to participate at Strategic Partners 2014, September 11 - 14 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A Canadian feature film in development will then be selected from this year’s Strategic Partners to participate at Los Cabos International Film Festival, November 11 - 14, 2014. Additionally, a Canadian television project in development looking for Brazilian co-production partners will be chosen to attend RioContentMarket, February 2015. This initiative is sponsored by the Canadian Media Production Association.
Producer and co-founder of the Mexican production company Agrupación Caramelo Cinematografica, April Shannon, has been selected to participate in this year’s Strategic Partners from Los Cabos International Film Festival. Shannon’s impressive career includes working as producer on Bernardo Arellano’s "Between Night and Day" as well as production manager on James Franco’s "The Broken Tower." Shannon recently produced Arellano’s second feature "The Beginning of Time," now in post-production, to be released in late 2014. Shannon will bring the dark thriller "Franco’s Night" to Strategic Partners with production slated for 2015 in Mexico.
Brazilian producer Marcelo Galvão has been selected from RioContentMarket’s esteemed alumni of 2014. Galvão established production company Gatacine in 2001 and has since directed six features including "Farewell," "La Rina and Bellini"and the "Devil." He has won over 50 renowned awards including Best Film at the Gramado Film Festival, Best Director at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival and Best Screenwriter at Paulína Film Festival (Brazil) among many others. Galvão will bring the highly anticipated television miniseries, The Gardener, to this year’s Strategic Partners.

Some people may know him as Brandon Walsh, others Richard Fitzpatrick; whatever you call Jason Priestley, you can also add “director” to that title. THR tells us that the former heartthrob is making his feature-length debut in the form of Cas & Dylan, for Montefiore Films.
Tatiana Maslany (The Vow) has already signed to lead the “dark road-trip comedy about a 61-year-old dying man who plans to end his life on his own terms. That quest takes a detour when the man ends up on the lam with an eccentric 22-year-old woman.” There’s no word as to who will be playing Maslany‘s elder counterpart. Jessie Gabe (Being Erica) wrote the script; Mark Montefiore will produce.
This isn’t the first time Priestley has stepped behind the camera, however, as he directed episodes of Call Me Fritz, Haven, Beverly Hills: 90210, and the 1999 documentary about The Barenaked Ladies, Barenaked America. I...
