Last week, Wamg got to sit down with stars Aubrey Peeples (Jem) and Ryan Guzman (Rio) in a small press conference to talk about their experience working on the film. Check out some of the highlights below!

Jem and the Holograms may go down in movie history as one of the craziest things to have ever happened, but not for the simple reason that it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a great film. The film is about to hit (October 23), and no one seems to be making a truly concerted effort to let you know.
Back when the film was announced, and subsequently when casting info came out, the ’80s were on people’s lips, and a lot of retro everything was hot. That trend has died out, and not that many people took to Jem anyway. Jon M. Chu was somewhat hot at the time too, as the man behind The Lxd, and a couple of Step Up titles was attached to G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and uhh… ’80s cartoons, right?
At this point, things are a little weird for the film, and...

Eager to turn the train around in time for release, Universal has pumped out a catalogue of clips – and a new poster – for its soon-to-be-released adaptation of Jem and the Holograms.
Inspired by the 80s cartoon series of the same name, the studio all but kicked the hornets’ nest earlier this year after revealing a debut trailer that was less than impressive. Since then, production company Blumhouse has assured us that Jon M. Chu’s live-action flick is actually “a great movie,” though today’s barrage of teasers doesn’t necessarily dispel our lingering doubt.
Following the rags-to-superstardom tale of Aubrey Peeples’ title character, the movie documents her humble beginnings as a budding singer operating with little more than a webcam and a shoddy microphone, to one of the hottest pop artists on the planet. Granted, considering the popularity of platforms such as YouTube, Vine, Tumblr and even Snapchat, a...

No-one was impressed by the first Jem and The Holograms trailer, as fans complained about the liberties taken with their beloved animated series. The trouble all stems from adapting an ’80s cartoon into a 2015 live-action movie, as any variation from the source material was bound to ruffle feathers. With the arrival of a new trailer though, could those preconceptions finally be smashed?
Jem revolves around a teenage girl who picks up a guitar, writes a few tunes and ropes in her pals to join her band. Footage is uploaded to the web and before you can say “YouTube advertisement deal,” the group’s video becomes a viral hit. Global superstardom beckons.

Every generation needs a voice, and Universal Pictures is hoping that this particular voice can bridge the generation gap. Jem and the Holograms – Jem, Kimber, Aja, and Shana – are back in a new film called simply Jem and the Holograms. The new trailer has been released and it looks like it could be a fairly entertaining interpretation of the animated series. But, judge for yourself.

Yesterday saw a fuzzy, scanned image from Jon M. Chu’s Jem And The Holograms hit the web after an eager-eyed fan spotted it in the latest Elle. In an attempt to keep things totally outrageous, or something, Universal Pictures has now dropped a higher quality version of that same image along with a brand new synopsis.
Based on the Hasbro animated TV series, which was a huge success back in the 80s, Jem And The Holograms steps it up by dragging the rocker chick into the modern age. In her latest adventure, the songstress – and her trio of holograms – will find success after one of their songs becomes a viral hit, presumably on YouTube.
For this live-action iteration, a new cast of humans will be rockin’ out, including Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko as the leading quartet. Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis are...

“You damn fool kids will never learn,” said the tubby fisherman in The Blair Witch Project. While that plaid-clad chap was referring to the meddlesome antics of three young filmmakers in the woods, his brief mutter still stands true in regards to the activities in most teen horrors today. Which ties in nicely, as a new trailer proves that’s still very much the case in the upcoming horror film, Ouija.
If you haven’t already guessed, the movie involves a gaggle of youngsters who happen upon a Ouija board and attempt to rouse a spirit from the afterlife. Co-written by Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, and directed by the former, it’s guaranteed to hit the spot for audiences venturing to the theatre this Halloween. Today’s trailer, brought to you by Universal, delivers sufficient teases for the late show crowds.

The first trailer for the upcoming horror movie inspired by a Ouija Board has finally been released, but it’s hard to say whether or not it was worth the wait! It marks the directorial debut of Stiles White, and the cast is made up of the usual sort of good looking unknowns who will likely be dispatched one after the other.
Anyone who has ever played around with a Ouija Board know there’s no real reason to be afraid of them, but this group of friends – who are trying to contact their recently deceased friend – soon find out that her death was no accident and that there may in fact be something far more sinister about this particular board game.

Any questions? It’s a horror movie inspired by a board game, that’s nothing new. Spirits, of course. Plenty of clichés (lots of door play in this one). There is even an old lady telling them how to further the plot and they have to finish the game just like in Jumanji. I want to watch Jiumanji now.

Even though it's apparently been playing in movie theaters for a little while now, Universal has finally dropped the trailer for their upcoming horror film based on the popular paranormal board "game" of the same name. Come inside to check out the trailer and take a gander at the poster.
My feelings on horror films are widely known (I'm a big chicken), so when you couple that with the idea of basing one off of a board game, I'm not really all that enthusiastic. Even so, there's a market for these things and the firs trailer is actually decent.
There's a definite Final Destination vibe going on here with overtones of your typical haunting films. While I'm not holding out much hope that this film with be genre-defining, or anything, I've been wrong before.

Though many people have given Hollywood a hard time about the recent glut of supernatural romance flicks, what they should really be ridiculing studio heads for is their surprising dedication to developing tentpoles based on beloved board games from our childhood. We’ve got adaptations of Candyland, Monopoly and even Hungry Hippos on the way. Now, even after Battleship sunk both with critics and at the box office last year, Universal Pictures is still chugging ahead with their next board game project: Ouija.
After years in the works, some headway on the film has finally been made as two main cast members were announced yesterday. Olivia Cooke (A&E’s Bates Motel) and Douglas Smith (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) have both joined the cast in leading roles. Both are playing teens who, along with a few other friends, attempt to contact a dead friend using the Ouija board and...

Olivia Cooke (“Bates Motel”) and Douglas Smith (“Big Love”) will star in “Ouija” for Universal Pictures, Platinum Dunes, Blumhouse Productions and Hasbro, the companies announced Friday. Stiles White is directing the suspense thriller from a script he co-wrote with Juliet Snowden. Daren Kagasoff has also joined the cast in a supporting role, contrary to an inaccurate report that pegged him as the male lead. “Ouija,” which is inspired by one of Hasbro’s most iconic brands, will be produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form for Platinum Dunes, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir for Hasbro.

After making me almost bleed through the eyes with Battleship, now it looks like I have three more Hasbro products being adapted to film to look forwarded to. Still, it seems that Universal may have learned their lesson after Battleship got torpedoed by critics. According to Variety, Hasbro is teaming with Emmett/Furla Films to get Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos and Action Man onto the bigscreen. The first going into production would be Monopoly, starting sometime in 2013. Stepan Martisoyan and Remington Chase of Envision Entertainment are serving as co-financiers on the projects with budgets at over $100 million. Emmett/Furla are co-producing all the films alongside Hasbro's senior Vice President Brandon Grimes, as well as Bennett Schneir of Hasbro Films.

Now that Universal has come to its senses and is letting Ouija, based upon the Hasbro board game that lets users talk to the dead, be a horror movie instead of a Jumanji-like adventure as originally planned, we're beyond excited and have an update on what to expect!

Last week saw the release of a handful of new international films, with Jo Nesbø’s Headhunters topping the list, and this week brings with it a rather different line-up, with Peter Berg’s Battleship being the biggest name amongst the new arrivals, opposite Kevin Macdonald’s critically acclaimed documentary, Marley.
My picks of the week:
Kevin Macdonald’s Marley & Daniel Lee’s White Vengeance.

DVD and Blu-ray (inc. Digital and UltraViolet Copies)

Not long ago we reported that The Crazies director Breck Eisner was in negotiations to direct Relativity Media's big screen adaptation of the toy Stretch Armstrong. The studio has issued a press release saying the deal is done, and Eisner is officially on board to direct it.
I wish the studio the best of luck with this movie because I don't think it's going to do as well as they hope. I've never been a big fan of Stretch, and I don't see there being a big market out there for it. I think Eisner is a talented director, but this isn't the kind of movie I thought he'd end up doing. Here's what he had to say in a statement,
This is a fantastic opportunity to create a world that is both fresh and exhilarating. What really excites me is the chance to build a hero from the ground up.

"Knowing" and "The Possession" scribes Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are set to rewrite and direct the "Ouija" movie at Universal Pictures and Platinum Dunes says Variety.
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz wrote the original drafts which envisioned this feature adaptation of the classic Hasbro boardgame as a big-budget tentpole.
Now with Jason Blum ("Paranormal Activity") onboard to produce the feature, it is expected to me a much lower-budgeted but still high-concept affair.
Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir will produce.

Hasbro is teaming up with Sony Pictures to bring Tonka Trucks to the big screen! Tonka Trucks were pretty badass back in the day. I had one when I was a kid, and I beat the hell out of it. I don't know if you've seen any Tonka toys today, but they aren't as badass as they use to be. Sony will team up with Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions and adapt the brand into an animated feature film. They are also working on developing films for Hasbro’s Candy Land for Sony. The studio is also working on bringing Hasbro’s Risk to the big screen as well.
Since Universal Pictures bombed with Battleship, they've stopped working all of their Hasbro projects like Stretch Armstrong, Clue, Monopoly, and Magic, The Gathering. Maybe they should have made a better Battleship movie. It's not the brands fault; it's the studio's.
