Prizes were handed out to several projects selected for this year’s Junior Co-production Market, including Teemu Nikki’s exciting venture into children’s entertainment. The Eurimages Co-production Development Award, €20,000 and the title of the Best Film Project presented during the Cinekid Junior Co-production Market – given out by the European support fund Eurimages – went to Snot and Splash, directed by Finland’s most surprising filmmaker, Teemu Nikki, of Euthanizer fame, who was recently seen in Cannes with his short All Inclusive. Written by Ilja Rautsi and produced by It’s Alive Films, it charmed jurors Dorien van de Pas, Derk van den Berg and Anette Unger thanks to its “entertaining take on a very urgent and important subject, which is relevant for the new generation of kids all over the world. The film explores different relationships: between the main characters, between them and society, and between them and nature,” went their statement.

The international co-production market, CineMart, creates a platform to offer filmmakers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects financed and distributed.CineMart refocused
As of this year, CineMart has been streamlined to better serve film professionals to find the right connections. Head of Iffr Pro Marit van den Elshout:
We’ve downsized the selection to 16 projects in order to give each project more care and attention. The projects now start preparations a month in advance with a specially appointed mentor. We’ve also implemented a new structure for the one-to-one meetings, which will be tailored more to the needs of each project. Additionally, CineMart presents a new format called Spotlight, in which the project teams and their mentors discuss each project publicly for all CineMart guests.
Out of 16 selected projects (from 400 submissions) the juries selected four award winners.

Panel discussed the future of co-production in the proposed Digital Single Market.
The second panel of the European Film Forum – “Public funding for co-productions: Cooperating better across borders in the borderless digital world” – took place at the Sarajevo Film Festival on August 21.
The session was a response to the EU initiative to create a Digital Single Market in the 28 member territories that would allow consumers to access content across borders - a move the European entertainment industry says would destroy hard-won co-production, distribution and exhibition models, and facilitate only significant players such as Netflix, Apple and Amazon in distributing content across the continent.
Sff’s Head of Industry, Jovan Marjanović, moderated the lively discussion between Marten Rabarts of the Eye Institute Netherlands; Hrvoje Hribar, head of the Croatian Audiovisual Institute (Havc); Robert Balinski of the Polish Film Institute; Dorien Van De Pas of the Netherlands Film Fund; Tamara Tahishvili of the Georgian National Film Center; and independent...
