- Laura Carriker has worked to tell intimate stories of female athletes exclusively since 2018. As a female director, she feels passionate about creating a more equal playing field for female athletes in the media. Carriker films in a manner that is both gentle and discreet, creating comfort and intimacy, respect and collaboration with all of the women whose stories she assists in telling. Carriker's roots are in the U.S., Colombia and France; giving her the desire to tell passionate stories from all over the globe. Carriker's current directorial projects include:"Unheard of" a TV series about the undefeated U.S. Deaf Women's National Soccer team, "Jamaica, Boom!"- a limited series documenting the Jamaica National Women's Football Team during their historic first World Cup journey to France in 2019, and "This Girl Wears Cleats" - a ten year longitudinal documentary about young women whose lives have been changed by football, filmed from 2018 until 2028 in Malawi, South Africa, Jamaica, Panama, France, the USA, and Peru. Also in development is "Balance under the Bombs," a limited series documenting the Ukrainian National Creative Gymnastics team, attempting to prepare for the Paris Olympics as their country is bombed, their fathers go to war, and one gymnast is killed.
Beyond Women's sports stories, Ms Carriker is madly passionate about animals and the environment. A rain forest sanctuary in Colombia is named after her ornithologist grandfather and she works to continue his legacy with projects for Rainforest Trust as well as a global wildlife series in development.
Prior to this, Laura spent six years directing a Documentary series covering disaster relief stories in Peru, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Mexico, Kenya, and Haiti.
Laura is the founder of the film production company, French Dog Films, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and studied filmmaking at the NYU Tish School of the Arts.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Laura Carriker
