Amazon MGM has hired Searchlight Pictures’ longtime distribution chief Frank Rodriguez as its new general sales manager, the studio announced in a memo to employees Thursday.
Rodriguez brings more than 40 years of distribution experience to his new company, starting his career at 20th Century Fox in 1982 after graduating from Uc Santa Barbara. Fox launched Searchlight in 1994 and tapped Rodriguez to join the new specialty division, where he worked for two years before joining Jeffrey Katzenberg’s newly launched DreamWorks Pictures.
At DreamWorks, Rodriguez oversaw sales for the studio’s films in New York, and when it was acquired by Paramount Pictures, he joined that studio and became its SVP of Eastern sales.
In 2012, Rodriguez returned to Searchlight and began an 11-year run as distribution chief that saw him oversee the release of multiple Oscar winners, including four that won Best Picture: Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave,” Alejandro Inarritu’s “Birdman,...

Exclusive: Big shift in the film distribution sphere here today as Searchlight’s longtime Head of Distribution Frank Rodriguez is heading to Amazon MGM Studios as their new General Sales Manager.
Rodriguez will report to Amazon MGM Head of Distribution Kevin Wilson, who was named to the position in April following the passing of longtime distribution boss Erik Lomis. The recent hire of Rodriguez is part of the restructuring of the theatrical distribution group over at Amazon MGM. Already at Amazon MGM is East Coast distribution vet Mark Boxer, who came to the studio during the Bob Berney era, who was named Head of Specialty Theatrical Distribution back in April.
Rodriguez–who received the distinguished ShowEast honor the “Bingham Ray Spirit Award” last month– has been at Searchlight since 2012 when it was Fox Searchlight and has overseen the domestic distribution of a slew of Oscar and award winning arthouse hits...

Lamb of God’s inaugural Headbangers Boat cruise festival looks to have been a blast so far.
The cruise left port aboard the Norwegian Pearl on Halloween (October 31st) from Miami. We’ve already reported on Randy Blythe (dressed as Elvis) officiating a Halloween wedding aboard the ship, and elsewhere, footage from the boat has been nothing but good vibes.
For instance, a circle pit broke out in the hot tub during Hatebreed’s set. As captured by Heavy Consequence photographer Kevin Wilson, the hot tubbers set down their margaritas and shimmied to a particularly hooky breakdown.
To be honest, this is probably the chillest mosh in Hatebreed history — Jamey Jasta and company’s brand of beatdown hardcore is specifically geared to incite violent mosh pits. Nonetheless, the boat’s crew still put a stop to the hot tub circle pit after a song or two. Safety first!

Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe turned the band’s inaugural Headbangers Boat cruise into a Vegas wedding chapel on Halloween night (October 31st). The singer officiated a wedding between two cruisers, giving them a metal memory that will last forever.
Headbangers Boat set sail from Miami earlier that day, and Blythe didn’t waste any time making the couple’s dreams come true.
As the story goes, the groom, Ro Kohli (who runs a company called War Machine Merchandise), couldn’t get into a Lamb of God show on Halloween night in 2012. Not wanting to spend the evening alone, he went on Ok Cupid and found a match in the bride, Bic, and asked her out on a date. In a full circle moment, Blythe (dressed as Elvis Presley) married the couple exactly 11 years to the day of their first date.

Welcome to “Awesome Artist We’ve Found Around The Net.” In this column, we are focusing on one artist and the awesome art that they create, whether they be amateur, up-and-coming, or well-established. The goal is to uncover these artists so even more people become familiar with them. We ask these artists a few questions to see their origins, influences, and more.
