Eric Paquette, former senior VP at Sony Pictures and MGM, has launched a new company, Meridian Pictures, with a focus on film and TV projects. Paquette said that he’ll be working with direct to consumer platforms, financiers and studios to fill their pipelines with “compelling stories for their specific audiences.” The projects in development include Papa Alpha Heavy, from writer Michael Walker, an action thriller set on a commercial airline. Gary Fleder is set to direct, and Chrisitain Mercuri’s Capstone is financing. Other projects Paquette is packaging include Meltdown, from screenwriter Jessica Postigo, based on the life of Bonnie Klea, the former Rocketdyne employee whose advocacy for worker victims of nuclear radiation exposure at the contaminated Santa Susana Field Laboratory led to a massive restitution program. Paquette will produce.

Seeking Justice is a film that was released in a limited number of theaters back in March and was quickly dismissed by most critics as “a typical potboiler with another phoned-in performance from Nicolas Cage” according to Rotten Tomatoes, where the movie stands at a measly 24%. So imagine my surprise when I pop in the Blu-Ray and discover that the film is really not quite that bad. Cage has never exactly been a master thespian, but as far as potboiling goes, the film has a bit to offer.
Will Gerard (Nicolas Cage) is an English teacher who is married to Laura (January Jones), a musician. One night, Laura is assaulted by a stranger, putting her in the hospital. It is there that Will is approached by Simon (Guy Pearce), who offers him the chance to get revenge on the man who did this to his wife. Will is obviously skeptical of the offer,...

Seeking Justice Directed by: Roger Donaldson Written by: Todd Hickey and Robert Tannen Starring: Nicolas Cage, January Jones, Guy Pearce, Jennifer Carpenter There’s a surprising amount of star power behind the newly released straight–to-dvd thriller Seeking Justice (the film had a very limited theatrical release). Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce, January Jones, Jennifer Carpenter, Harold Perrineau and Xander Berkely star in a story that slowly unravels a mystery concerning vigilantism run amok in modern day New Orleans. Cage plays Will, happily married to symphony musician Laura (January Jones) until she is brutally attacked and raped by an unknown perpetrator. Naturally Will is driven nearly mad over his anger and utter helplessness regarding the unfortunate event. While in the hospital, Will is approached by Simon (Guy Pearce) who offers to “take care” of the attacker for Will. He explains that he is from a secret syndicate of citizens who are...

Director Roger Donaldson has tried his hand at many different genres over the years; sci-fi (Species), disaster movie (Dante’s Peak), remake (The Getaway), comedy (Cadillac Man), historical epic (The Bounty) and ‘80s guilty pleasure (Cocktail) but one genre that he keeps returning to is the conspiracy thriller. His 1987 film No Way Out made Kevin Costner a star and was a tense Pentagon set thriller with killer twists. In 2003 he revisited the genre with the Colin Farrell and Al Pacino starring The Recruit which once again proved he was adept at handling the twists and turns of the genre. For his latest film, Justice starring Nicolas Cage and Guy Pearce released on Blu-ray and DVD this week, he returns for another crack at the conspiracy genre posing the question, what would you do?

Chicago – “Seeking Justice” must have been such a juicy proposition on paper. Director Roger Donaldson is coming off his most interesting film in years (“The Bank Job”), Nicolas Cage is overdue for a quality drama, Guy Pearce is one of our most interesting actors, and the supporting cast includes a number of interesting actors with recent TV hits – Jennifer Carpenter (“Dexter”), Harold Perrineau Jr. (“Lost”), and January Jones (“Mad Men”). The only thing you’ll be wondering during this inert alleged thriller is where it all went wrong.
The premise of “Seeking Justice” is actually a decent one for this increasingly dangerous world. A man’s wife is raped. Another man comes to him and tells him that he can give him the justice he seeks. He claims to be the leader of a group of vigilantes and he wants to help, asking only a future favor in exchange.

Featuring: Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce, Harold Perrineau, Jennifer Carpenter, January Jones
In the canon of New Orleans crime film, Seeking Justice is the bad night on Bourbon Street.
It starts off promising. Not golden, but you get your hopes up. Director Roger Donaldson seems to be phoning it in a little, sure. Nic Cage is so energetic, though. There’s jazz and foreshadowing and Walt’s dad from Lost — this could turn out well.
Midway through Seeking Justice, you’re having a good time thanks to cheap swill. You know that the editing, the acting and the dialogue could be better, but fuck it — you’re here for a good time. By now, the storyline of a shadowy conspiracy of Big Easy vigilantes has flowered into car chases, a mystery and nifty Diy tricks to evade the law. The...

Director Roger Donaldson's (The Bank Job) dramatic new thriller, Seeking Justice (formerly The Hungry Rabbit Jumps), has yet to receive a U.S. release date, but it opens in Ireland and the U.K. tomorrow — under the even shorter title Justice — and three new high quality still images and six new preview clips from the movie have turned up online.
Written by Robert Tannen (Even Money), Seeking Justice stars Nicolas Cage as Will Gerard, a happily married high school teacher whose life is turned upside down when his musician wife (January Jones) is violently attacked. Remember that new crime thriller that Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job) was directing in New Orleans? The one starring Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce and January Jones about a husband who enlists a vigilante group to seek retribution on the man who assaulted his wife? It had that bizarre but original name? What was it? Oh, yeah, The Hungry Rabbit Jumps? No? That's okay, because it's going by a new name now anyway. Or, rather, several names.
In the U.K., it's now called Justice, while here in the States it's Seeking Justice. The movie has yet to get a U.S. release date, but it has already opened in Italy and will soon open in several other European countries and a trailer for the U.K. release has just gone online. In addition, Collider has posted a batch of new still images from the movie.

The Hangover: Part Two
Opens: May 26th 2011
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifinakis, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong
Director: Todd Phillips
Summary: Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned.
Analysis: It really wasn't until about three months before its release that Warner Brothers realised "The Hangover" was going to be a hit. Test screening response was through the roof, while the trailer had great reaction after premiering at ShoWest and online. About that time they commissioned director Todd Phillips, along with his "Old School" and "Road Trip" scribe Scot Armstrong, to pen a sequel. Yet they still waited to see how the first one went before fully committing to the follow-up.
The wait didn't last long.

The eleventh and last part (W-z) of my extensive 2010 preview guide I'm still at work on and should be hitting the site either Tuesday or Wednesday. Before that though it is time to plug a few holes.
With release dates always in flux, there is no true definitive list of films opening this year as the number of titles change day-by-day and many aren't really locked in yet. As a result, there's definitely been some guesswork assembling this list, albeit carefully considered and researched to try and fit in what will come out, what's important enough, and what can be reasonably done.
However, there are always titles that slip through the cracks. Thankfully some ever vigilant readers have been keeping an eye out and sent in some suggestions of key projects I've missed. Not everything can be included of course, otherwise this list would take forever, but there are fourteen...

For the fourth consecutive year Hollywood has selected its Black List, a compilation of the top unproduced screenplays for 2009. Over 300 film professionals were asked to submit the titles of up to ten of their favorite screenplays. The only condition for the picks were that the projects would not be released in theaters this year. That means some of the Black List honorees may be in the process of being turned into movies but by far the majority remain thoughts on digital ink, a blueprint for grand dramatic ideas, high-reaching adventure and controversial ideas waiting to be burned to light.
For a screenplay to have made it onto the Black List it must have received at least five votes for it. Some scripts have five votes while the top-rated screenplay received 47 votes. That doesn't mean that the script with the most votes is the best screenplay of the year; it means...

You know who we don’t really see enough of? Guy Pearce.
The Guy is proven talent, from Ravenous to Memento to The Hurt Locker, but for some reason has never really been given his chance to shine as a leading man in the public eye since the lackluster Time Machine remake.
The good news is that we’ll be seeing him again very soon, in Roger Donaldson’s The Hungry Rabbit Jumps. You may remember Donaldson from The Bank Job and The World’s Fastest Indian. Pearce is joining the film alongside Nicolas Cage and Mad Men’s January Jones, while no other casting details have been revealed.

A very odd title for Nicolas Cage’s new film (to start shooting in 2 weeks time); then again, he’s spent his entire career playing odd people or making odd project choices. Production Weekly have announced Aussie Guy Pearce is joining the proceedings.
Described as a thriller, little is known about The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, other than it features a man turning to a gang of vigilantes after his wife (January Jones) gets attacked. Roger Donaldson is directing a debut script by Robert Tannen.
It is unclear how Guy Pearce fits into the story, but rumour has it, he’s bagged the role of the gang leader. It’s all a mystery at present. But with an intriguing premise, brilliant actors and surefooted direction – this could potentially be great. Nicolas Cage is always out looking for new and ever-stranger roles to play; and Pearce has carved out an excellent career for himself in Hollywood.

Following the new Bad Lieutenant, Nicolas Cage is heading back to New Orleans at the start of next year for the vigilante thriller Hungry Rabbit Jumps. Joining him, we've just learned, will be the comely and alliterative January Jones, who stars in Mad Men and who also just signed on for Unknown White Male.Jones plays Cage's wife (marriage to Cage and Liam Neeson in the same week: impressive, no?), the victim of a brutal crime that pushes Cage towards a vigilante organisation. "In the best Hitchcockian tradition", it says here, Cage gets in over his head. Action! Danger! Excitement! Eye-boggling and that little nervous laugh!Robert Tannen (Even Money) wrote the script, Tobey Maguire's company is producing, and the director is Roger Donaldson. Filming will presumably need to be completed before Cage starts work on Drive Angry in April, which makes for a tight schedule if Jones is...

Not surprisingly, it seems that things are going well for January Jones's career after her great work in Mad Men. In a recent page 3, we mentioned that Jones would be joining Diane Kruger and Liam Neeson in Unknown White Male. Now it seems she has another theatrical project lined up. Jones will be starring in Hungry Rabbit Jump, alongside Nicolas Cage as his wife. The film will be helmed by Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job, Thirteen Days), with a script by Robert Tannen (Even Money). We've known about the project since September, when Cage left The Green Hornet. The film concerns a man who is out for revenge after his wife becomes victim to a crime. He seeks out help from a vigilante group, and quickly gets in over his head. I'm not sure if we can rely on Cage not to give us a hilarious performance (somebody remind...

Nicolas Cage, who was rumored to be the villain in the upcoming Green Hornet movie, has officially walked away from the project in favor of something called The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, which sounds like the sort of code spies use to make sure they're dealing with the right contact.
First, the details on that film: It's a revenge thriller directed by Roger Donaldson. Interestingly, Tobey Maguire, who is producing through his cleverly named Maguire Entertainment brand, was going to star in the film about a year, a year-and-a-half ago when he picked up the script by Robert Tannen.
Cage will play a man shellshocked by the violent murder of his wife and joins The Hair Club for Men...I mean, an underground vigilante organization. So that part of the premise might be Ok. Sounds like a bloodbath to me.

Nicolas Cage is not literally a hungry rabbit but has hopped on board to star in The Hungry Rabbit Jumps. Believe it or not, the film is actually a thriller, centering on a man whose wife is the victim of a brutal crime. He subsequently becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization. The feature is written by Robert Tannen with Roger Donaldson, director of “The Bank Job”, helming the pic.

We previously posted an article wondering why Nicolas Cage was selling eight out of his eleven houses. We know that he has a $6 million IRS debt, but even one of those houses will bring in more than that. Many of you might have also noticed that Cage is taking starring roles in more projects than usual. While he previously averaged two films per year, he now has six movies lined up for 2010 and several more for 2011. That's more than what Samuel L. Jackson has going on. Just a week ago, we reported that Cage would star in a revenge thriller "Drive Angry," and it has now been announced that he has also boarded "The Hungry Rabbit Jumps," a thriller that Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job) is directing. The Robert Tannen-written script centers on a man whose wife is the victim of a brutal crime. He subsequently becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization.

Nicolas Cage is keeping busy at the moment: with Kick-Ass and The Sorceror's Apprentice in the bag, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans doing the festival rounds and 3D action film Drive Angry already lined up. But for the 5 minutes he's got spare in the meantime, he's signed on to star in The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, a vigilante thriller to be directed by Roger Donaldson.Based on a script by Robert Tannen (gambling drama Even Money), Cage will play a man whose wife is the victim of a violent crime, who becomes involved in an underground vigilante organisation as he tries to deal with the aftermath. At the tail end of last month news broke of a new action movie called Drive Angry that Nicolas Cage has committed to star in. He still is going to star in that film which starts rolling in April but now Cage has found another paycheck to earn before Drive Angry gets rolling.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the comic book Coppola will topline The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, a thriller that will shoot in January in New Orleans (the same place where Drive Angry will lens.) Get this: the story will have Mr. Ghost Rider playing a man whose wife is a victim of a brutal crime, so he gets caught up somehow in an underground vigilante group that ferrets out justice on criminals. Sounds like Fight Club meets The Star Chamber meets Death Wish. At this rate it's pretty much a given that if you're playing a son, daughter...

I'll be the first to admit that Nicolas Cage might actually be making a comeback. I saw Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant earlier today with Cage, and although he was very over the top, he was hilarious (in a good way). He's also got Kick-Ass coming up, which could help him out. THR's Heat Vision blog has announced tonight that Cage has joined the cast of The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, a thriller to be directed by The Bank Job director Roger Donaldson. The script, written by Robert Tannen, centers on a man whose wife is the victim of a brutal crime. He subsequently becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization.
