- He worked for Columbia Pictures for over fifty years. His first job was as an accountant and then he worked up to President and Chief Executive Officer for Columbia Pictures after the David Begelman scandal at the company in 1977, and overlooked some of the studio's major motion pictures. He won a "special" Academy Award for his leading efforts into bringing Columbia Pictures back into a better studio.

- Once mistook Peter Sellers for Woody Allen at a party during the filming of Casino Royale (1967), and complained to him how difficult Sellers was to work with. Sellers quit the film the next day, leading to the studio to have to frantically rewrite the rest of the film.
