This review contains what may be spoilers for the film Synchronic.
Synchronic is the fourth feature film from the writing-directing (and sometimes acting) team of Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benso. Their previous independent efforts–Resolution (2012), Spring (2014) and The Endless (2017)–were all hybrids in one way or another of sci-fi and horror, leaning more toward one or the other, depending on the story that was at hand.
Synchronic extends the duo’s ambitions in terms of the scope of the story, its genre (still decidedly science fiction with horror overtones), and its casting. For the first time, the pair work with bankable Hollywood names. Meanwhile the storytelling and overall logic are as intelligent and thoughtful as ever, resulting in a film that may be modest in overall size but large in terms of its ideas and humanity.
One of the Avengers himself, Anthony Mackie, stars as Steve, a New Orleans paramedic...

DocumentaryThe mini-series looks at three landscapes in the world that undergo stunning transformations and the biodiversity in them.Geetika MantriHippos in Okavango We often hear things like ‘nature has a delicate balance’, or that ‘every creature in nature has its own place’. But we hardly ever come to realise just how delicate this balance is, and how efficient natural ecosystems are. The smallest of organisms to the largest of predators have specific and crucial roles to play. If we could all witness this from above, watch it unfold, I would like to believe that we would cherish our planet’s biodiversity much more and be a lot more careful of damaging it. Seasonal Wonderlands, three-part mini-series by BBC, does allow one to achieve one of the two things mentioned – to witness how the tiniest of ripples can create a tsunami of transformation in nature and how delicate the balance is.

Joe Russo confirms the next Avengers movie is currently the longest in the McU
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Avengers 4 has a lot of ground to cover. Wrapping up 19 superhero movies' worth of plot, and putting a cap on three Marvel "phases" of storytelling, it’s obviously going to need a decent running time, and director Joe Russo has now confirmed that it’s on track to be the longest Marvel movie yet.
“The running time on Avengers 4 is currently sitting right at three hours. We’ll see if that holds,” he said during an Instagram chat to promote his new bar in Los Angeles. Not that he and his brother are anywhere near finished tinkering with it yet though. “We’re about halfway through the editing process,” Russo confirmed. “We’re really just scratching the surface on our VFX shots. Someone is wearing is the cone of shame in the first trailer for The Secret Life of Pets 2.
There’s something very wrong with Max the dog. Tricked into going to the vet by his owner, he has to sit in the waiting room with all the other messed-up pets to find out what’s wrong. Maybe it’s the fact that he now sounds suspiciously like Patton Oswalt instead of disgraced comedian Louis Ck.
Averting a PR catastrophe, Illumination have brought Max back with a completely child-friendly new bark for The Secret Life Of Pets 2 – a sequel to their 2016 animated hit.
The first film saw Max the Jack Russell team up with Chloe the tabby cat (Lake Bell), Mel the pug (Bobby Moynihan), Buddy the dachshund (Hannibal Buress), Duke the mongrel (Eric Stonestreet), and Gidget the Pomeranian (Jenny Slate) to take down a gang of...

Kingsman 3 won't have Eggsy in it, according to Taron Egerton.
Matthew Vaughn is already in pre-production on Kingsman 3, but he won’t be requiring the services of Taron Egerton.
We’ve already heard plot rumors that set the next sequel in the past – picking up the origins of the secret intelligent service during Wwi – and Egerton has now confirmed that Eggsy won’t be involved at all.
"I'm not in the next Kingsman movie," he told Yahoo News, fairly conclusively, before looking a bit worried that he’d said something he shouldn't have. "I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you… That doesn't mean I won't be a Kingsman ever again. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago and spoke to him...We're very much still in business together, it's just that his next journey in that universe doesn't involve me. Which I think is sacrilegious!

Annoy the wrong director and you could have an ugly cockroach man named after you.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
It’s not easy naming your movie characters. Do you go boring (James Bond), awesome (Snake Plissken), or just plain stupid? If you’re not picking names out of a phone book, you have to base them on something, or someone, and a surprising number of movie characters have been inspired by real people, pets and places.
Some of them are nice nods (who wouldn’t want their dad to write them into Star Wars?), but most of them definitely aren’t. The best revenge, it seems, is served up on the end credits…

Paddington 3 is in the works, but director Paul King might not return.
The first Paddington movie made $268 million, and the second (which is one of our favorite movies of the year) took $226 million – making it one of the most successful family franchises around. Both films also happened to be absolutely brilliant, adapting Michael Bond’s children’s books with real warmth and wit.
The good news is that Paddington 3 is happening. The bad news is that Paul King probably won’t be returning to direct it.
“I don’t think Paul King will direct the third,” producer David Heyman told Collider. “He did the first two – he and I are working on another project together… He’s very special, Paul. We’re developing a third Paddington. We haven’t got a script yet, we’ve got a treatment which we’re still working on.”

The sweariest saloon in the Wild West is finally reopening its doors, as HBO's Deadwood movie is finally underway.
If you’re a fan of Deadwood, this is the news you never thought you’d actually read. Ever since the show was abruptly cancelled in 2006 HBO has been teasing plans for a Deadwood movie.
Proving almost impossible to finance, it looked like it was never going to happen. Now, finally, the cameras have started rolling and the Deadwood movie is officially underway.
Showrunner David Milch has written the script (which will probably be about 50% Shakespearian poetry and 50% swearing) and long-time series director Daniel Minahan is directing.
The series arguably had a great ending but it was definitely a bit abrupt – and there were still plenty of loose ends to tie up. The film will pick things up 10 years later, with anyone who left the town coming...

Possible plot points are teased as work on A Quiet Place sequel continues.
A Quiet Place 2 is happening, and it’s going to pick up right where the last one left off.
We already knew that John Krasinski was coming back to direct a sequel to his brilliant horror debut, but we now know that the film will be a direct continuation of the original story.
Last time we saw them, Lee (Krasinski) and Evelyn (Blunt) were about to face off against an alien home invasion – with the film finishing just as things were about to get noisy for the first time.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the pair spilled the beans on where the script might take the Abbot family next – discounting the early rumors about a prequel.

Steven Spielberg’s classic is getting the song and dance treatment on the big screen.
Steven Spielberg’s 1985 drama The Color Purple is a slightly underrated chapter of his career. It picked up several Oscars at the time (including Best Picture and acting nods for Opera Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg), but it still doesn't often make many lists of the director’s greatest hits. Adapted from Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1982 novel, the story had a big life outside the film on Broadway, winning 11 Tony nominations in 2006 – and had a hugely successful revival in 2015.
Now it’s set to head back to the big screen – with the musical adaptation getting re-adapted by producers Spielberg, Winfrey, Quincy Jones and Broadway veteran Scott Sanders.
According to Collider, the project is still in its early stages and no names have been attached to star, but the first rumors all point...

James Cameron’s return to Pandora has a new name.
Considering James Cameron is currently filming four back-to-back epics – handcrafting a ready-made franchise from the slightly forgotten memory of the highest grossing film of all time, there hasn’t been much news trickling out about the Avatar sequels recently.
Avatar 2 has been talked about since before the first film even opened nine years ago, and Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 have sprung up in the interim – with Cameron revealing his insanely ambitious plans for two pairs of consecutive sequels.
The good news is that we don't have to call them Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5 anymore. The BBC has “seen documentation” which seems to confirm the titles of the new films, listing them as Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.

Jason Statham’s really big shark is coming back for another bite in The Meg 2.
No one really expected The Meg to be as popular as it was this summer.
The film was surprisingly fun and the long-in-the-works project ended up taking a whopping $528 million at the box office, which currently ranks it No. 11 in the yearly rankings. That means, of course, that it’s getting a sequel – and the news has now been confirmed by one of the film's executive producers, Catherine Xujun Ying.
"It's still very early stages right now, but we're working or starting to work on it,” Ying told Variety, before weirdly saying that she’d “like to keep it a secret at this time.”
Weirder still, Ying went on to talk about other plans for the franchise, including a potential theme park attraction. "Hopefully China will have the first Jurassic aquarium," she said,...

There are so many Avengers: Endgame fan theories out there. We try and make sense of them all.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Needless to say, this article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.
Last year, the whole McU was turned to dust. In just a few months time, it’s all going to be put back together again (probably), but how it happens, who survives, and what it all means for Phase 4 is still very much up in the air. According to Mark Ruffalo, even the filmmakers haven’t quite decided how it’s all going to end yet. While that’s almost certainly not true, the film has a lot of story strands to tie up, and there’s plenty of speculation building up about how it’s going to do it.

It director Andy Muschietti has signed on to direct the new Attack on Titan live action movie.
Andy Muschietti is moving on to much, much bigger things after he wraps It: Chapter 2, adapting the massive Attack On Titan manga series into a new movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Muschietti, who made Mama before both It chapters, has signed on to direct under Harry Potter producer David Heyman – lending the adaptation some serious blockbuster pedigree already. If the film stays true to the books, the anime series, or even the bonkers two-part Japanese live-action movie, it’ll need every ounce of Heyman’s Hollywood heft to get it off the ground.
What starts off as a fairly ambitious story of a world overrun by terrifying man-eating humanoid giants gets even crazier pretty quickly in the other versions, with people fighting on jetpacks, controlling giants from the inside and waging monstrous half-human,...

The upcoming PG-13 re-release of Deadpool 2 will feature brand new scenes.
There’s just no stopping Deadpool 2. First we had the deleted scenes (with the extra Hitler baby bits), then the optional “Super Duper Cut” on disc, and now we’re getting a PG-13 edit that’s going to play in cinemas this December. What’s more, it now turns out that the slightly more kid-friendly version will include whole new scenes – with Ryan Reynolds heading back into the studio to film a new framing device.
Talking to Slashfilm, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirmed that they wrote and shot new material for the new release, with director David Leitch coming back into the studio. “We definitely shot new stuff,” says Wernick. “And recently, too. Because it’s so much worse when you don't see it coming…
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
You know what you’re in for when you go and see a horror movie. Scary films usually have scary titles and scary posters so everyone knows that they’re going to get jumped, spooked or grossed-out for the next two hours. If you don't like horror movies, it’s pretty easy to avoid them.
But that’s not always the case. It might be a kid’s movie, an indie drama, an action blockbuster or a sweet family comedy, but you’re never completely safe from horror when you go to the cinema. Here we round up the scariest scenes in films that generally weren’t meant to be scary – the unintentional horror moments that caught us off guard.

It seems like Captain Sparrow’s ship has finally sailed, and Johnny Depp will not return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
This week bought us the first rumors that Disney is planning to reboot its Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise – turning part six into an entirely new chapter for the swashbuckling series, possibly without Johnny Depp.
While it sounds like a great idea to us, the idea that the studio would ditch the one star that holds it all together seems a bit too big a step for Disney to make – even if it does have a history of overreacting to avoid any hint of off-screen controversy.
However, apeaking to DailyMailTV, The Curse Of The Black Pearl's screenwriter Stuart Beattie responded to the rumours by dropping a lot of strong hints that suggested Depp is already long gone.

The Mad Max: Fury Road director will make Three Thousand Years Of Longing.
Three Thousand Years Of Longing would be a good title for a documentary about the problems director George Miller had making Mad Max: Fury Road – or even about his ongoing legal dispute with Warner Bros over it – but it’s actually the name of an epic love story about genies.
THR reports that Miller is on the verge of selling his script to the film, which he intends to direct as his next project. Very little known about the plot at the moment, but it’s rumored to be “light-years in the opposite direction” from the tone of Fury Road.

Also known as Djinn, it sounds like Three Thousand Years Of Longing will be some kind of historical epic about genies – possibly set in Arabia, where genies tend to hang out. Whatever it is,...

Batman is a lot younger than you would expect in the Joker solo movie.
We already know that Todd Phillip’s Joker movie is trying to distance itself from the Dceu – pitched as a darker, grittier, more serious stand-alone spin-off. This is a crime thriller that just happens to be set in a world that might one day have superheroes in it, and it is most definitely not a Batman movie.
Making that even clearer, Phillips has cast Bruce Wayne as a little boy – with Dante Pereira-Olson as a young Bruce in a world that clearly has a very different continuity to the comic books.
Pereira-Olson starred as a young version of Joaquin Phoenix's character in You Were Never Really Here, so it’s likely that his future on-screen nemesis recommended him for the part.
He’s also got a new butler too, with Douglas Hodge cast as Alfred.

The Jamie Lee Curtis led Halloween sequel/reboot has smashed the October box office.
This year’s Halloween sequel has broken several records in its opening weekend, taking over $77 million at the Us box office.
Now officially the biggest opening for any horror film with a female lead, the biggest for any film with a female lead over 55, and the biggest for any Halloween movie in the franchise, the film is only just behind this year's Venom for the all-time October record.
Jamie Lee Curtis took to Twitter to celebrate with “one boast post”, sharing a photo of herself and her female co-stars.
Ok. I%u2019m going for one Boast post. Biggest horror movie opening with a female lead.

The Wreck-It Ralph director gets told off for being mean to the bad boy of Star Wars
Ralph Breaks The Internet seems to be enjoying poking fun at Disney – with trailers making jokes about Princesses, streaming services and everything else the Mouse House owns, but there’s one character that’s completely off limits.
“At one point, we had a joke about Kylo Ren being kind of a spoiled child,” director Rich Moore told IGN. “We went to Lucasfilm and said, 'Here’s what we’re doing.' And they said, 'Well, we’d prefer you don’t show him as a spoiled child. You know, he is our villain, and we’d prefer you don’t do that.' So we were respectful of that."
To be fair, Kylo Ren is a bit of a big baby. He has a temper tantrum every time something doesn't...

Kenneth Branagh follows up Murder on the Orient Express with another ensemble for Death on the Nile.
Death on the Nile follows up 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, which, bearing a bountiful ensemble of stars, was a hit for Kenneth Branagh, who directed and starred as detective Hercule Poirot in the Agatha Christie adaptation. Indeed, with the film having grossed $352.7 million worldwide, it’s not surprising that a sequel was always on the cards – even teased in the last scene of the movie.
The franchise sticks to the major works with Death on the Nile, which is Christie’s other most famous Poirot case. Christie’s story – originally released in 1937 – takes place aboard a luxury steamer in 1930s Egypt as Poirot reluctantly tries to help Doyle with a stalking case that quickly turns into murder mystery. Just as with Orient Express, Poirot gets trapped...

Taron Egerton plays (and sings) Elton John in the Dexter Fletcher-directed biopic, Rocketman.
Rocketman is set to manifest as a rousing cinematic reverie, chronicling the rise of the great Elton John to his place as one of the most popular music acts in history, and the enduring legacy he’s still building to this day (his current world tour is said to culminate in a 2021 retirement).
However, the narrative here is the uncanny performance of star Taron Egerton, who not only embodies the man born Reginald Kenneth Dwight onscreen, but even sings his own renditions of the artist’s legendary smash songs!
Dexter Fletcher stepped into the director’s chair for Rocketman, serving as a reunion with star Egerton, who he directed, opposite Hugh Jackman, in the 2015 comedy, Eddie the Eagle.

Release date, cast, plot, budget and everything else you need to know about the many Avatar sequels...
When Avatar was released back in 2009, it was kind of a big deal. Beating the record that he set with Titanic, James Cameron’s sci-fi epic grossed more than $2 billion to become the highest-grossing film of all time – spearheading the short-lived 3D renaissance, blurring the lines between live action and mo-cap animation and selling a whole lot of HD TVs.
Never one to take the easy route, Cameron quickly announced plans for not one but four sequels – each to be filmed back to back and all to be bigger and more technologically advanced than anything else ever made.

With Bond 25 providing Daniel Craig with his last outing as 007 -- as well as bringing the series total to a milestone number -- the new film looks set to be something special for the franchise with an interesting new director, a lot of new ideas, and one hell of a reputation to live up to.
