From all the X-Men movies, including the acclaimed "Logan," to animated series like "X-Men '97," Wolverine is one of the biggest fan-favorite Marvel superheroes. With razor-sharp indestructible claws and an accelerated healing factor, James "Logan" Howlett is a killing machine with a conscience, finding his place among the mutant superheroes, the X-Men. Wolverine comes from an especially dark past, however, while his berserker rage and susceptibility to mind control makes him a lethal liability at times. This has led to Wolverine committing several especially heinous acts, some deliberately, across the character's extensive history in comic books, television, and film.
Wolverine may be one of the greatest heroes of the Marvel Universe, but you can bet that his hands are dirty with all the questionable things he's done. Here are the worst things Wolverine has ever done, be it mistakes made in the comics, movies, or beyond, adding to the superhero's conflicted morality and background.

It wasn’t a good time to make superhero movies either, especially after the commercial ridicule thrown at Batman & Robin. So to try and fix things, Marvel tried something old again.

When James Gunn's version of the Man of Steel arrives on screen in 2025, he might be facing off against a DC hero who's just as powerful as he is -- The Engineer. Though plot details of "Superman: Legacy" are still under wraps, casting news about the first major DC Universe project planned under the Gunn-Safran era has once again begun to break now that the SAG-AFTRA strike has ended. The latest cast edition is María Gabriela De Faría, who's set to play the aforementioned nano-powered character, per Deadline.
De Faría joins a growing ensemble that includes both traditional, universally recognized Superman characters ("Pearl" actor David Corenswet will be Clark Kent to "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" star Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane) and more eclectic members of the DC back catalog. "Twilight" actor Edi Gathegi is on board as Mister Terrific, "Barry" scene stealer Anthony Carrigan will play Metamorpho, and...

Deadline has reported that María Gabriela de Faría has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as The Engineer.
María Gabriela de Faría will play Angela Spica, a member of The Authority with a liquid body due to the nanotechnology in her bloodstream. The character was created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch and was first introduced in The Authority #1 in 1999. The superhero group is set to be featured in their own movie in the first chapter of the Dcu, but there were rumblings this summer that they would first be introduced in Superman: Legacy.

Exclusive: María Gabriela de Faría, the Venezuelan actress best known for roles in Fox comedies Animal Control and The Moodys, has landed a breakout part on the film side, joining the cast of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
Her character is Angela Spica aka The Engineer. Part of the Warner/DC flick’s villain team, Angie’s powers stem from nanotechnology built into her body. Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, she’s the second DC character to bear the name of The Engineer and was first introduced in The Authority vol.1 #1 in 1999.
The first title in a revamped DC slate, marking Gunn’s first directorial effort as co-head of DC Studios, Superman: Legacy will follow Superman as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Even as superhero movies took Hollywood and the box office by storm in the 2010s, it has proven difficult for fans of those movies to get into the source material comics. If you're a Spider-Man fan eagerly waiting for "Beyond The Spider-Verse," though, pay attention to a new comic swinging its way to stores in January 2024. It will be the easiest jumping-on point for you in a long while.
That comic is "Ultimate Spider-Man," first announced via Marvel's Twitter account on September 20, 2023. It will be an ongoing series written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Marco Checchetto. The talent involved was already enough to pique comic fans' interest (and we'll explain why it should rouse yours' too soon). More details about "Ultimate Spider-Man were confirmed at New York Comic-Con this past weekend — at a panel attended by comics outlet Aipt, Hickman said the comic will be about a middle-aged Spider-Man,...

“What made the Ultimate Universe originally really interesting was that it was a reflection of the world outside your window, in the moment that you were living in. What does it look like in the world we’re living in now?” Hickman said. “It’s kind of shocking how much the world has changed in that period of time.

The first chapter of the new DC Universe will officially get underway with Superman: Legacy, but the movie may also introduce a few other upcoming Dcu characters. In THR’s Heat Vision newsletter, the upcoming Superman: Legacy screen tests were mentioned, but there was an additional tidbit which stated that members of The Authority will also be appearing in the movie.
The THR report states that “roles such as Lex Luthor and members of supergroup The Authority, which are to be introduced in the movie, will be cast after.” Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, The Authority are a group of heroes who take matters into their own hands to do what they believe is right. The original team consisted of Jenny Sparks, Jack Hawksmoor, Swift, Apollo, Midnighter, The Doctor, and The Engineer. The character of Nick Fury has become somewhat synonymous with its actor, the one and only Samuel L. Jackson. At this point, he's probably one of the few Marvel actors the brand simply cannot live without, as the canon seems to only allow for Jackson's portrayal of the S.H.I.E.L.D. boss. We've had several different Peter Parkers and a couple of Matt Murdocks, for example, but there is truly only one Nick Fury.
According to Jackson — who has recounted this story a few times over the years and as early as 2012 — he only came into the role after someone used his likeness for a comic without his permission. He happened to stumble upon the redesign of Fury in a comic store in a copy of Mark Millar and artist Bryan Hitch's 2002 series "The Ultimates."

"Invincible," the animated series based on the hit comic book series by "The Walking Dead" co-creator Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, was a major success for Prime Video. But what to read between seasons if you can't get enough of bombastic teenaged superheroics? Well, there are at least 14 different comic books that should scratch that itch, including both series that influenced "Invincible" as well as stories that have something to say about the world of superheroes — and the one we live in.
Of course, it goes without saying that one of the titles that should be on your reading list is "Invincible" itself. The series wrapped up in 2018, so it's a complete saga — just be aware that you'll be spoiling the rest of the animated series for yourself! That's hardly a problem, though; this is a story that's worth experiencing twice.

After much anticipation, the new James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios has finally announced their upcoming film and TV slate. The goal is to create a giant connected shared story spread out across movies, TV, and even gaming. Characters will move fluidly in and out of animation and into live action, and there’s a special DC Elseworlds label to distinguish standalone efforts and visions (such as Todd Phillips’ R-rated Joker movies).
But within the actual Dcu shared universe, there are some surprises. Amongst familiar faced l ike Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and even Supergirl, there’s shockers like a Wonder Woman prequel drama with a Game of Thrones flavor and a Creature Commandos animated series. But perhaps there’s no choice more shocking than the one Gunn is seemingly most excited for: The Authority.

Over the past few months, the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm of the newly created DC Studios has been been making waves. With speculation rife on which direction the duo will take the Dcu to revive its flagging properties.
Gunn and Safran recently met with the press on the Warner Bros. studio lot to present what they said was the first part of Chapter 1 of the Dcu, which they are calling “Gods and Monsters.”
Projects featuring the most beloved of characters in Superman, Batman and even a Wonder Woman prequel series took front and centre stage. While those less-known characters to those who aren’t diehard fans will also get their time to shine. The Dcu exists as a multiverse, Safran said, but the titles will exist in one singular universe.

At a press event on Monday, January 30th, new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran welcomed media to the Warner Bros. lot to the future of the new DC Universe. The new direction includes a fresh Superman film written by Gunn, a new introduction to the Batman family, a Wonder Woman TV prequel series, and much more.
Gunn and Safran met with a writer’s room that included Drew Goddard (The Martian), Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), Christina Hobson, Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Tom King. “We sat down in a room for a few days and we started to bash out what the basic overall plan could be,” said Gunn. “Not so much that it ties your wrists, but enough that we know what the basic story is, where we’re going. Up until the recent announcement of DC Studios, the new film division at Warner Bros. Discovery to be headed up by auteur James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, it kind of seemed like the DC Universe was lacking direction. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a bit too streamlined, the Dcu had the opposite problem and had become increasingly unwieldy. DC's future in films was seeming quite uncertain, with not much revealed beyond the few sequels we already knew are on the way. The only new hero on the horizon is "Blue Beetle," whose future has been in doubt since what happened to "Batgirl" — I'm still not over it. Seriously, give Babs her movie!
DC has already adapted the comic company's big guns, so now it's time to go digging into the back issues. I recently wrote about how awesome an Animal Man movie could be, which got me...

Like so many things related to Marvel, it all started in the Ultimate Universe. In issue #4 of The Ultimates, team members fan cast each in a movie adaptation of their lives. When asked about his pick, Fury responds, “Mr. Samuel L. Jackson, of course.” The line, written by Mark Millar, referenced the fact that penciler Bryan Hitch used Jackson as an inspiration for this new version of the Director of Shield.
Appropriately, Hitch’s drawings helped lead to Jackson being cast as Nick Fury for Iron Man in 2008, taking the place of David Hasselhoff, who played the character in a 1998 tv movie. It’s even more appropriate that Jackson has taken it upon himself to develop the character’s live-action appearances.
In an interview with Collider, Jackson revealed that he largely controls Fury’s lines. “I’ve been doing Nick Fury for so long, I know what he sounds like...

I’ve always loved the Crime Syndicate characters. They first appeared on the scene in Justice League of America #29 way back in 1964, created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky. They were from Earth-3, a sort of Mirror Universe bad version of ‘our’ Jla, just without the Star Trek goatees. It was essentially a ‘what if our heroes came from a bad planet?’ What would they be like. Well, Ultraman (Superman), Owlman (Batman), Superwoman (Wonder Woman), Johnny Quick (The Flash), and Power Ring (Green Lantern) sure showed us. They were bad to the bone. They were also entertaining villains, and I collected all their appearances all the way up to their heroic sacrifice in Crisis on Infinite Earths. They have of course returned many times since, in various new incarnations post-Crisis, post Zero Hour, post Infinite Crisis,...

DC Comics released a first look at its March comics, the first batch after the end of the multiverse-spanning Dark Nights: Death Metal and the pause-everything company wide reset Future State, and from our first glimpse of the solicitations, the big changes coming in Future State look like they might be sticking around.
With the sheer volume of change that DC underwent in the last year – new distributors, new release days, personnel changes, cancellations and FanDomes included – there was a lot of speculation about the future of the comics line. This first batch of solicitations provide an interesting answer to that speculation. It looks like, post-Future State, DC’s changing everything. By keeping some things the same.

DC really do know their audience. Every time I think I’ve had enough of these Dark Multiverse books, they stick out one that makes me act like someone propping up the bar at the local. ‘Go on, then, just one more’ When you’ve read as much of DC’s output as me down the years, from the late 70’s onwards remember, then you are a sucker for nostalgia or revisiting stories and times that you connect with. DC have cleverly tapped into that with Dark Multiverse takes on things like Knightfall, Death of Superman, The Judas Contract, Blackest Night, Infinite Crisis among others. I can’t tell you how excited I am for the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths one. Fanboy explosion time. So, this time round we have Flashpoint, another major DC event.

Lee decided as these stay-at-home orders started to roll in that he would draw one sketch a day for 60 days; auction the sketches on eBay; let the auction winners pick the subject of the next sketch; and donate the proceeds to the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) foundation. And we are excited to reveal Lee’s next sketch subject: Grifter and Zealot
Grifter and Zealot are original creations of Lee’s, part of his super team WildC.A.T.S. when he created his own superhero universe for Wildstorm.

DC's Generation One: Age of Mysteries kicks off a new look at the DC Comics timeline, with a story about the Jsa.
It looks like the timeline of the DC Universe, and the scope of DC continuity as a whole is about to undergo some seismic changes. To give readers a better picture of what the new DC Universe timeline looks like, DC Comics will tell their complete superheroic history with a Free Comic Book Day one-shot followed by five self contained prestige format books that will see release between May and September. By the time that final book is revealed, we'll have an understanding of what constitutes the new shape of DC continuity.
First up is Generation Zero: Gods Among Us, which will hit for Free Comic Book Day on May 2. "It all starts here, and everything counts" the publisher promised in a statement. The 32-page comic features two stories,...

Wonder Woman has had quite the renaissance in recent years, and as one of the Big Three (with Superman and Batman) it is thoroughly deserved. You don’t get continually published since 1941 unless you have something that clicks with readers after all. She first appeared in All-Star Comics #8 in 1941, graduated to her own book with Sensation Comics #1 in 1942, and has never looked back since. She has gone through several’ fad’ phases down the years, such as the depowered white jump suit era (yikes), and has sometimes struggled with getting enough readers to pick up her book. Historically, though, having a female character they are trying to aim at girls but written by middle aged men, doesn’t really work, and also ends up alienating the male audience. Most self respecting teenage boys back in the day wouldn’t pick up...

Bryan Hitch, Warren Ellis and Alex Sinclair keep bringing the goods in the latest issue.
It's amazing how alike Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch's The Batman's Grave is to their modern classic, The Authority. Ellis and Hitch are two of the most important comics creators in the history of the medium - their work on The Authority is one of the brightest dividers between comic book eras there is, like Showcase #4* -- the introduction of Barry Allen that marked the line between the Golden and Silver ages. And they bring that same energy to their new Batman story.
The big, sweeping, epic scenes that made The Authority such a big deal are all there in The Batman's Grave, along with wit so dry it's mummified. That's because of the talent of the creative team working on the book, Hitch tells us in an interview.

This was impossible to not pick up. Firstly, well, it’s Batman, currently going through something of a renaissance, with some good books being put out. I imagine with DC Comics now being fully operated and controlled by their corporate owners, they are under orders to really push their blue chip characters, for commercial and marketing reasons as much as good stories, but good stories is what we have been treated to. Secondly, just look at that creative team. Warren Ellis scripting, Bryan Hitch pencilling, Kevin Nowlan inking, Alex Sinclair on colours, and Richard Starkings on lettering duties. You won’t find a more elite creative team on any book, anywhere. Finally, that title. The Batman’s Grave. How could that not draw you in? Take. My. Money.
Right, now you have my money, this book...

Speaking as a, ahem, more mature fanboy I have got quite jaded of late with all the crossovers, mega events, ‘end of everything you know’ type stuff. I have been pleasantly surprised then by the fact I have really enjoyed DC’s Year of the Villain event. Just when you thought that everything that could be done with Lex Luthor had been, we have been introduced to Apex Lex (I love that name just too much), a supercharged villain for a supercharged event. Lex has been given the gift of near omnipotent power, and has been dishing out gifts all over the place, giving villains new powers or enhanced ones to take down their heroic adversaries once and for all. The new Batman book from Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch is a different look at the world of the Dark Knight.
This is not the first time we’ve talked about The Batman’s Grave, the new 12-issue maxiseries from comics legends Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch. It won’t be the last time, either. It was almost certainly going to get a tryout, just on the strength of the creators - you get The Authority creative team back together and there’s no way I was going to let it sneak by. But now, based on the strength of these preview pages, I’m pretty locked in for the full run.
The last preview we got was limited to black and white pencils and inks from Hitch and longtime collaborator Kevin Nowlan. They were good, but the new color pages tell so much more of the story.

Now that characters pertaining to the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool franchises reside under Disney’s umbrella and all that jazz involving Fox lies in the past, it’s not like we can just wipe it from our memory. Plus, it’s always fun learning new bits of trivia.
As you may already know, some characters existed within a legal grey area and were fair game for both Disney and Fox. Chief among them were Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, the former of which wound up having two live action versions of him existing at the same time. The alien race known as the Skrulls were also of this ilk, though they wound up being called something else in Dark Phoenix.
Nick Fury, however, wasn’t residing over at Fox, though they did try to get him at one point. Believe it or not, Andre Braugher’s character in Fantastic...

The Authority creators reunite for a 12-issue Batman series.
Bryan Hitch and Warren Ellis are the comic book titans who created The Authority and unleashed them on the world, changing comics for twenty years. Now, the pair are reuniting for the first time since that superhero epic this October for The Batman's Grave, a 12-issue maxi-series written by Ellis, with art from Hitch and his Hawkman inker, Kevin Nowlan.
“I’ve drawn some covers and used Batman in Justice League and Jla, but since I read Jim Aparo and Don Newton’s Batman runs in the 80’s, I’ve wanted to do a proper, big Batman story. Fellow Authoritarian Warren Ellis had one to tell, so when he mentioned it I said ‘yes’ before even asking what it was about," said Hitch in a press release. "That’s what you do when Warren says ‘I’ve got a proper,...

Alfred Pennyworth has been a mainstay of the Batman franchise for decades now and though various elements of the property have changed through time, he’s managed to stay mostly the same.
After all, almost everyone can picture the faithful English butler, with the character being memorably brought to life in live-action via Michael Gough’s four movie stint in the 90s, Jeremy Irons’ take in the Dceu and, probably the best out of them all, Michael Caine’s version in The Dark Knight Trilogy. But at the moment, there’s an interesting discussion online with fans calling for a female Alfred in The Batman. A Freda Pennyworth, if you will.
The idea first came about when comic book writer and artist Bryan Hitch asked his followers who should star as Alfred alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman? Punisher creator Gerry Conway replied, “Hear me out. Maggie Smith,” and with his Tweet gaining almost 20,000 likes,...

The Authority comes to take back New York in this exclusive preview of the final issue of The Wild Storm.
Writing this preview is tougher than normal for me, because I haven't been as certain that I'm going to write about a comic book again in December since that issue of Deathstroke with the Creeper. However, especially over the last six issues, The Wild Storm has been one of the best comics I've ever read, and I've definitely got enough to say about it that I won't repeat myself later.
The Wild Storm comes to an end this week with the release of issue #24, and DC was kind enough to send along an exclusive preview of the final issue. I don't normally focus on covers in part because of how infrequently they matter to the story on the interior, but Jon Davis-Hunt's cover image for this issue...

After months of speculation, anticipation, and plenty of rumors, it seems that Robert Pattinson has been confirmed to play the starring role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Needless to say, the official announcement has been met with middling reception – longtime DC devotees took to Twitter to share their reactions, which seem to be an equal mix of disappointment, skepticism, and tentative faith.
Since that particular casting decision is set in stone though, the internet has now begun to do what it does best and wildly speculate about who will play the supporting characters. A few Hollywood A-listers have already expressed interest in joining the project – with Marvel’s Sebastian Stan looking to play The Riddler – and a new suggestion from a comic book veteran has begun to make some waves.

Following on the success of The Wild Storm, DC is bringing back WildCATs.
Warren Ellis and Jon Davis Hunt’s The Wild Storm has been one of the best comics of the last couple of years. It is at the same time a reboot of a much loved comic universe that uses its spreading tendrils as a line to plant it firmly within the broader DC multiverse And a deconstruction of both the form and substance of an entire era of comics. But it’s also coming to an end, a planned 24-issue series that was only intended to weave the threads of a broader world for others to pick up.

I think it is fair to say after eleven years and twenty two movies the McU very much became its own entity. It was successful enough and brave enough to tell its own stories. While Avengers: Endgame is busy making millions I have seen lots of tweets reminding people not to forget the comic book roots of these characters and the creators or created them for so little pay and credit. So what I want to do here is give some reading suggestions for stories that inspired important moments in the McU. Also it will give me a chance to talk about the pricing up Tpb’s or hardcovers on eBay, because so far a lot of my time has been spent focusing on single issues. I did have a very cool idea to highlight some single issues that are key to Avengers: Endgame but as we are still in...

Venditti has humanized the Winged Warrior while presenting a genre bending experience that simplified the character’s convoluted history while exploring Hawkman as a hero that transcends time and space.

Robert Venditti walks us through the new revelations about the history of Hawkman coming up in the latest issue.
Robert Venditti has been a major part of DC’s murderer’s row of writers since the New 52 era, having steered the fate of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps for years. But as of late, Venditti has risen in the DC ranks to become one of the most innovative voices at DC Comics. Recently, Venditti and Bryan Hitch's Hawkman has become a top of the pile read.
The new series cuts through the confusion of Hawkman’s complex history and presented a genre-bending, character-driven, cinematic look at Carter Hall and the multiple lives and worlds the titular hero has inhabited over the millennia. Along with superstar artist Bryan Hitch, Venditti has found a direction for Hawkman that makes the character one of DC’s A-list heroes.

Though the God of Thunder went with short hair for last year’s Thor Ragnarok, some newly released Avengers: Infinity War concept art indicates that Chris Hemsworth’s character might’ve already been on the path to growing back his lengthy locks by the time the fight against Thanos kicked off.
Concept illustrator Rodney Fuentebella took to Instagram with an early illustration of Thor rocking his famous eye patch along with a little ponytail. In the caption, Fuentebella explains that he “wanted to go for the wondering warrior look,” though the final design for the film was ultimately crafted by Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding. And while we’ve certainly seen more drastic alternatives for how the character could’ve looked in the Russo Brothers’ latest release, it’s still strange to think that the ongoing saga that is Thor’s hair almost took this endearing turn.

Ever since Stan Lee tragically passed away earlier this week at the age of 95, the internet’s been flooded with tributes from fans, colleagues, admirers and more. Not a day’s gone by where we haven’t stumbled across a touching message from someone paying their respects and saying how much joy Stan brought to their life, while some companies have even gone so far as to take out a full-page ad in The Hollywood Reporter to show their appreciation.
But one person who doesn’t seem to care much for the legacy Stan Lee left behind is Bill Maher. The controversial television host/comedian hopped on his blog earlier this week and more or less disrespected the iconic comic book creator while also taking some shots at the industry as a whole.
“The guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning,” wrote Maher.

To quickly recap, Bendis will pen a Man of Steel, a six-issue weekly miniseries set to launch in late May, before taking over the flagship books in July with a freshly relaunched Superman #1 and Action Comics #1001. Having taken that in, you probably couldn’t help but notice a three-month gap separating Action Comics #1000 from #1001.
As it turns out, DC actually does have a plan for that, for they’ll allow the current creative teams to conclude their runs with special oversized 48-page one-shots in May. Personally,...

When you really think about it, Justice League is probably one of DC’s marquee titles to have seen the fewest changes in scribes over the course of this decade. After Geoff Johns set the bar with his now legendary run during the New 52 days, Bryan Hitch ran with the ball upon the start of Rebirth. And, now, it’s Christopher Priest who’s tasked with handling the publisher’s premier superhero team.
While none of us can be too sure of the selection process that allows someone to land such a gig, a personnel shift makes a lot of sense at this point. After all, with the Justice League movie having debuted in theaters not long ago, what better way to create a friendly jumping on point for new readers than with a new creative team?
If we were to hazard a guess, this particular case may have something...

Maybe you haven’t heard, but there’s this little film called Justice League debuting in theaters next month. Uniting the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg on the big screen for the very first time, it’ll probably sell quite a few tickets based on that premise alone. Really, it’s no wonder social media went crazy when the latest trailer dropped.
Having said that, it’s rather fortunate for DC that the super group’s comic book lineup pretty much mirrors what’ll be seen in cinemas, only we also have Mera and Green Lanterns Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz thrown in for good measure. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine there not being a ringslinger in the mix, and that’s an element writer Bryan Hitch hasn’t thus far neglected.
Speaking of which, Hitch will be bringing his “Legacy” arc to...
