Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Leonardo Aponte moved to New York
City in the summer of 1995. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts
(B.F.A Film & video program 2001) his projects range from dramatic
content, documentaries, commercials and music videos to branding and
design.
Leonardo has directed music videos for The Senors of Marseille, She
Keeps Bees and DD Pesh, developed corporate identity and programming
for Thrasher Funds' online presence. Most recently, he completed the
short film "Sleeper" and is in development of his first feature
documentary. Leonardo is represented by Explorer Films as a director
for commercial & music videos.
Leonardo edited the documentaries "Ptown Diaries" (official selection
Outfest 2009 & Provincetown International Film Festival), "Children of
the Street" (directed by Eva Aridjis nominated for two Ariel Academy
Awards, and winner of best feature documentary at Morelia International
Film Festival), campaigns for Bertolli, InStyle magazine, Condé Nast
Traveler magazine as well as the Showtime series "I Can't Believe I'm
Still Single From Portland to Portland" and BET's "Real Life Divas".
Other clients include MTV, Lion TV, VH1, Trollback & Co, D&D
Productions, HBO, TNT, RES, Bertolli and Nike.
