Paramount Plus has revealed a further slate of scripted and unscripted U.K. original series ahead of the launch of the streaming service in the U.K. this summer.
Scripted original series commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, deputy chief content officer, U.K., Paramount, as part of the streamer’s plans to greenlight 50 new international scripted originals in 2022, include “The Ex-Wife” (4×60″), based on Jess Ryder’s the hit psychological thriller novel, where a woman’s world of a perfect house, a loving husband and a beautiful little girl is turned upside down when her husband’s ex-wife won’t leave them alone.
Céline Buckens (“Showtrial”) plays the lead role in the series, which is co-produced by Clapperboard Studios, BlackBox Multimedia and Night Train Media, with Night Train Media financing and controlling worldwide distribution rights.

Egyptologists, archaeologists and forensic investigators will try to decipher the stories of Ancient Egyptian mummies in an upcoming series for Travel Channel and the U.K.’s Channel 5 from producer Blink Films.
Six-parter “Mummy Mysteries” for Travel Channel, which will be titled “Mummies Unwrapped” for Channel 5, follows a team of experts using cutting-edge science, historical breakthroughs and modern criminological techniques, to investigate the deaths of six Ancient Egypt royals.
Each episode concentrates on a single 3,000-year-old embalmed body. They include the disfigured remains of Tutankhamun’s mother, to the so-called ‘Screaming Mummy’ and a potential Pharaoh found amongst the bizarre exhibits of a Niagara Falls oddities museum.
Each contain clues, from virulent ancient diseases to evidence of royal torture, that open a window into the world of the Pharaohs.

British producer Blink Films will make Mummy Mysteries (or Mummies Unwrapped as it will be titled on Channel 5), a six-part series that will unravel facts about mummies including Tutankhamun’s mother and the so-called Screaming Mummy.

Viacom’s Channel 5 is exploring the history of London in a four-part documentary series from The Big Family Cooking Showdown producer Voltage TV.
The British commercial broadcaster has ordered London: 2000 Years Revealed, hosted by Dr. Suzannah Lipscomb, Dan Jones and Rob Bell.
The series will chart the origins of London and its meteoric rise to power and take viewers through the frequently glorious and always compelling history of the British capital. The series examines how it grew from a small Roman trading post, to the capital of the British Empire, and ultimately to the thriving megacity we know today, despite facing dramatic invasions, fires and deadly plague.
Distributed by Banijay Rights, the doc series was commissioned by Factual Commissioning Editor Lucy Willis and is exec produced by Sanjay Singhal and Alice Harper.
Willis said, “London is now a global metropolis but 2000 years ago it was still a wild and uninhabited swamp.

Exclusive: British broadcaster Channel 5 has certainly been stepping up its ambitions since Viacom paid $580M for it four years ago and there’s no better example than luring former BBC presenter Jeremy Paxman to the network.
Deadline understands that Paxman, who worked for the BBC for over 40 years, most notably as host of late night current affairs show Newsnight, is making All The Queen’s Children for Channel 5.
The two-part documentary looks at the lives and roles of the Queen’s four children and examines their changing relationships with the British public over the course of the last 60 years.
