Did Scott Peterson — the man convicted of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner, in 2002, before tossing both of their bodies into the San Francisco Bay — get a fair trial?
That’s the question Oxygen’s Snapped will pose when it returns for its 20th season on May 7.
Peterson was convicted of murder in 2004. He was sentenced to die the following March and remains on death row in California. (He appealed in 2012, effectively forestalling his execution for years, though prosecutors have challenged that.)

You couldn’t script some of the things Wendy Walker experienced as a live news producer at CNN. But now, the new ABC drama “Notorious” aims to do just that.
The series, which launches Thursday night, stars Piper Perabo as a TV news producer who develops a friendship and alliance with a superstar defense attorney (Daniel Sunjata). The show is inspired by Walker’s lengthy CNN career and her pal, real-life defense attorney Mark Geragos.

Walker admits she was taken aback at first of how her “Notorious” character handled things (like, say, having sex in her office right before the live telecast). But she soon adjusted to the world of dramatized television.
The veteran news producer spent 32 years at CNN (including 18 of those as executive producer of “Larry King Live”), focusing on breaking news and other live coverage.

Amber Heard might be adding yet another powerhouse attorney to her corner. Heard, 30, was spotted arriving at renowned attorney Gloria Allred's office on Friday, where a source tells People the actress consulted with Allred's firm during a meeting that lasted nearly four hours. Allred, 74, is certainly no stranger to handling high-profile cases. She has represented dozens of women embroiled in scandal and is known for handling high-profile discrimination and sexual-abuse lawsuits. In fact, she represented and helped Norma "Jane Roe" McCorvey become an abortion-rights icon in the historic Roe v. Wade case. Here's a look back at some of...

Sorry I’ve been absent the past couple of weeks. Blame it on the taxing business of prepping for the taxing business. Now I’m back. Not back with a vengeance – I’m not the Punisher – back with a comic book to write about: Captain America: Sam Wilson #6 .
I’ve been writing about the adventures of Samtain America, the portmanteau of Sam Wilson and Captain America I created, quite a bit. There’s a good reason for that, Serpent Solutions. As it’s been a couple of weeks since I wrote my last column, let me recap. (Oh, and DC take note. This is what a recap looks like.)

The White House has finally responded to the 355k signature petition signed by those wanting the President to pardon Making A Murderer subject Steven Avery. If you haven't read the title of the post already, they said they could not pardon him, even if they wanted to. Their official response is as follows...
"Under the Constitution, only federal criminal convictions, such as those adjudicated in the United States District Courts, may be pardoned by the President...
There's a camp of people that will say "bull s***. He's the President. He can do what he wants," but those people are probably the first to talk about the importance of state vs. federal rights. Truthfully, it looks like if anyone can give Steven Avery leniency, it's going to be the state of Wisconsin...which doesn't look likely.

It has been nearly 11 years since a jury convicted Scott Peterson in the death of his wife, Laci, and unborn son, Conner. In the decade since Peterson was sentenced, he has sat on California's death row, awaiting an execution that may or may not ever come.
Despite the time that has passed, the jurors remain convinced of his guilt – and impatient to see his sentence carried out.
On Saturday's episode of Murder Made Me Famous on the Reelz channel, juror Mike Belmessieri pulls no punches as he speaks about the 42-year-old convicted murder.
"Scott Peterson is a sociopath," Belmessieri tells the show.

Imprisoned in San Quentin prison on Death Row for the murder of his wife Laci, Scott Peterson is living a “cushy” life, Geraldo Rivera reported Saturday. “Scott Peterson is living inside a single cell, inside NorthSeg; it’s the exclusive, it’s the best that you can ever hope to serve,” Nancy Mulane, author of “Life After Murder: Five Men in Search of Redemption,” told Rivera. Mulane, who has been one of the few people to see Peterson in prison, went on to say he has access to a basketball court, an outdoor shower and toilet, and a roof to protect prisoners from.

Well, this is unexpected: Ben Affleck is reportedly David Fincher's top pick to play the male lead in Gone Girl, an adaptation of the best-selling 2012 thriller by Gillian Flynn. (Reese Witherspoon is producing and presumably interested in the role of Amy. Update: Maybe not.) Affleck is a little older than the Nick we'd pictured, but honestly, this could be a great fit: Affleck's charming in a sleazy way; believably (but not too) small-town; and now that we think about it, even looks like Scott Peterson. Good work, David Fincher. Lock this down.

Lifetime has made a biographical TV movie to hold us over as we wait for a new jury to be selected so that Jodi’s trial can continue. The murder case has been so highly publicized and poured over, could a dramatization of the whole thing even be worth it? See how the critics felt!
Lifetime sure isn’t wasting any time. Though usually the network holds off a little bit on making their melodrama, “based on a true story” TV movies (like their Scott Peterson film), they didn’t even wait until Jodi Arias’ trail officially ended before making a movie based on her story, called Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret. The movie, which depicts everything leading up to the night Jodi stabbed her boyfriend Travis Alexander nearly 30 times, slit his throat, and shot him in the head, premiered on June 22 and surprisingly, it wasn’t half-bad!

But in other news, former couple and on-screen lovebirds, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, walked the red carpet together at not only "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" premiere in Los Angeles, but at the UK screening in London as well. Is there relationship back on? It appears so.

Ben Affleck knows what it's like to be hated more than a would-be convicted killer -- or that's how he feels.

Is Bradley Cooper the most polarizing actor in Hollywood? Judging by our unscientific polling, it's no question.
For every "Omg, he's so hot!" comment on the web, you will find a sentence with the words "Bradley Cooper" and "douche" in it. Dan Abrams was on The View this morning to do quite a roundup of legal stories in the news. They ranged from the slightly silly (a Kennedy being arrested for driving a tractor under the influence) to tragic (the death of Sylvester Stallone's son Sage) to sleazy (Scott Peterson's attempt to appeal his murder conviction), but he had some particularly interesting predictions for victims in the Penn State sex abuse scandal in the wake of a report that found that knowledge of the abuse was widespread amongst university officials.

The celebrity lawyer's newest client is the former girlfriend of the accused face-eating cannibal in Miami – and that's not a surprise
The news that celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred is now representing Yovanka Bryant, the former girlfriend of accused Miami face-eating cannibal Rudy Eugene is perhaps the least strange event in that shocking story.
Wherever and whenever something bizarre or perverse or just plain gossipy hits America's front pages, Allred is never far behind, snapping up clients and holding news conferences. Bryant was due to tell her story at a press conference in Miami on Wednesday.
Here are 10 of the strangest and most high-profile cases that she has been involved in.
The Oj Simpson trial
In 1995 the murder trial of Oj Simpson was quite simply the biggest story in the world. The blanket media coverage and media obsession helped shape the current landscape of celebrity justice and trial by cable TV.

Not a lot has been heard from Jordan B. Gorfinkel, former DC editor and the mastermind behind Batman: No Man’s Land. His Avalanche Comics Entertainment operation has been doing some custom and corporate comics work while he continues to produce a weekly strip for Jewish newspapers. But, behind the scenes, he’s been slowly assembling this project which is finally coming out after way too many years. I’ve worked on it, I’ve read it, and I recommend it.
Here’s the official press release with the details:
May 23rd, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA – This June, Boom! Studios is proud to announce Michael Midas Champion by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Scott Benefiel. Wrapping a classic fairy tale in superhero comic book clothing, Michael Midas Champion blends the heart of It’s A Wonderful Life, the majesty of The Princess Bride and the thrills of Spider-Man.

High-profile attorney Gloria Allred is now set to represent two of the alleged victims to come forward with claims they were sexually harassed by John Travolta.
TMZ reports that Allred is now representing John Doe #2, the second of two anonymous masseurs to charge Travolta with sexual battery and assault, but notes "it's unclear exactly what Allred is doing with him."
The news comes one day after Allred confirmed she'd taken on the case of John Doe #1, who is described in court documents simply as a Texas-based masseur. Late last week, John Doe #1 was dropped by his legal counsel, Los Angeles-based attorney Okorie Okorocha, after the alleged victim revealed he'd gotten the date of his supposed encounter with the "Pulp Fiction" star wrong when filing suit.
As TMZ reported earlier, John Doe #2 -- said to be a masseur at an undisclosed Atlanta-based resort -- followed suit by firing Okorocha, and announcing...

Looks like John Doe #1, the first anonymous masseur to accuse John Travolta of sexual battery and harassment, won't be without legal counsel for long.
As People magazine is reporting, John Doe #1 -- identified in court documents only as a Texas-based masseur -- has hired famed civil rights attorney Gloria Allred to represent him.
"Mr. Doe's lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice which means that he is still legally entitled to file another lawsuit against John Travolta if he chooses," Allred told People. "We are in the process of conferring with him regarding the next steps, which he may wish to take. Our client and our firm has no further comment at this time."
Allred's announcement comes on the heels of yesterday's news that John Doe #1 had filed papers to dismiss his lawsuit against the actor, TMZ is reporting. According to the site, the dismissal papers were filed yesterday morning in California.

Remember Court TV and the national obsession with high profile trials? For about a decade from O.J. Simpson to Scott Peterson and Natalee Holloway the country seemed to have an insatiable appetite for soap opera like details that slowly and painstakingly emerged day in and day out in courtrooms and from investigations around the country. Courthouses regularly became tent cities with media encampments at high profile trials. Some judges and lawyers (and witnesses ie. Kato Kaelin) became more recognizable than most movie stars. Sometimes, the cases addressed important issues like in the trial of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy Mcveigh or assisted suicide doctor Jack Kevorkian or most obviously, Bush v. Gore. Others were far more frivolous like Anna Nicole Smith's lawsuit or a random celebrity drunk driving or drug case. Multiple daily cable news shows hosted by the likes of Geraldo Rivera, Greta Van Susteren, Nancy Grace (and me...

What is The Event?
After watching the pilot episode of The Event at Comic-Con and interviewing the cast, I had no clue what the event actually is – which is exactly what I’m looking for in a series. If six years of watching Lost taught me anything, it was to trust the creative team and your patience will be rewarded.
The Event has the potential to be a very satisfying viewing experience because it contains three essential qualities that I require in a show for both a time and an emotional commitment: cast, chemistry and compelling creative.
The Lost Factor
Despite what you might have heard otherwise, The Event is not Lost – nor is it trying to be. If anything, this new series has extracted a few of the more successful elements from Lost and integrated them in quickly and smoothly.
While fans of genre shows like Lost and Fringe will enjoy The Event,...

Ten days after his wife, Susan, went missing, Joshua Powell knocked on a friend's door in tears. For the next hour, he sat on Wayne Hamberg's living room sofa, sobbing, but saying nothing about Susan's mysterious disappearance on Dec. 6. "He was so distressed, so despondent, so overwhelmed," says Powell's friend Wayne Hamberg, who met the 29-year-old Web site programmer about a year ago at a Salt Lake City computer club gathering. "The reason he's not talking to police is he's just shut down," Hamberg, 49, a software engineer says about Joshua. "He's so emotionally drained and everybody's attacking him, making him...

Sitting in a 4-by-9-foot cell on San Quentin's Death Row, Scott Peterson doesn't have a lot of choices in life, but he can decide how to decorate his wall. While many cons plaster their cells with pictorial collages, Peterson has only one photo hanging across from his bunk: a smiling shot of him and his wife, Laci. It's a much different pose from his most recent mug shot - taken in June of 2007 - where his dark hair was clipped short by fellow cons in the exercise yard. Under his half-smiling face is a placard with his inmate number and the word: "Condemned.

Sunday night, R&B's hottest couple, Chris Brown and Rihanna, were supposed to light up the Grammys. Instead, the normally affectionate twosome were embroiled in a domestic violence drama that left Brown, 19, booked on felony criminal threats charges and posting $50,000 bail after turning himself in to the Lapd on Sunday at 6:34 p.m. Pst. Sources say that Rihanna (real name: Robin Fenty), 20, was the victim in the alleged assault which occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Responding to a 911 call about a disturbance, the Lapd took statements from a female with visible injuries, who named Brown as her attacker.

As the Society noms continue to roll in, the latest comes from the Visual Effects Society as they announce their nominees for the 7th Annual Ves Awards, a ceremony recognizing outstanding visual effects in over a dozen categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games. Of course all I really care about are the film noms, but you can check out the full list of nominees by downloading the Pdf press release right here. Iron Man led the way with five nominations and is competing with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Cloverfield in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture category, the category probably deemed the highest profile of the bunch and it went to Transformers last year only to see The Golden Compass pull out a surprise win at the Oscars.

So there I was at the supermarket maintaining a half-century long tradition: hanging out by the magazine racks looking for treasure. Or at least something interesting to read. Nada. As usual.
But there was a dump next to the racks with a trade paperback titled Learn Spanish With Batman. Well, that seemed interesting. I picked one up, flipped though it and found that the stories were reprints from DC’s sundry Batman cartoon tie-ins. Top-rank stuff by top-tier people: Terry Beatty, Rick Burchett, Tim Levins, Scott Peterson, Dan Slott, and Ty Templeton. What the hell; I picked it up.
Truth be told, I took a couple years of high school Spanish. My first teacher would have done better as a guard at Guantanamo Bay. My second, Ron Manger, was vastly superior but it was probably too late. I picked up a lot more Spanish on the Chicago streets. So I...

Three syndicated shows have bit the dust since the start of the new year; The Megan Mullally Show, The Greg Behrendt Show and Geraldo at Large. The daytime market looks easy but it's a tough sell. Just ask Dr. Keith Ablow, host of cancelled syndicated show number four.
The Dr. Keith Ablow Show debuted on September 11, 2006, was produced by Lmno Productions and Telepictures Productions and syndicated by Warner Bros. Domestic Television. The show was hosted by Ablow who was a couples therapist for 20 years and has appeared as a guest on several shows as an expert regarding several high-profile trials. He's also written a half-dozen novels and seven non-fiction books, including the best-selling Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson.
The show's stated goal was to "help individuals, couples and families cope with the personal challenges they face in today's world, and develop strategies that can help them lead more fulfilling lives.
