Here in the week of E3, the videogame industry’s biggest conference, it’s time to ask if e-sports has finally broken through after years of underground but massive growth. It’s also time to wonder if Disney bet on the wrong horse when it bought Maker Studios instead of Twitch three years ago.
Yes, I know. If you’re over the age of 35, e-sports can seem mystifying. You likely can’t imagine anyone sitting in front of a TV (or computer) watching someone else sitting in front of a computer playing a video game. But as I’ve always said, why is it different than sitting in front of a TV watching someone play games such as football, basketball or baseball?(Full disclosure: I played all three sports growing up and am a gamer, too.) Or for that matter, why are e-sports different than participating in a dance...

Much in the way that Friday Night Lights isn’t just a show about football, CBS’ The McCarthys isn’t just a show about basketball. It’s also a show about crazy people.

Who says TV programmers have run out of ideas?
Why, just in the last week, the trade papers have announced deals and casting for as many as 15 new reboots spinoff series and specials. Some sound like familiar shows, others like mutant Frankenstein hybrids of familiar shows. We'll leave it to you to decide which of these programs sound like must-see-tv and which sound like much-skip-tv.
"Care Bears and Cousins." Fuzzy is the new black at Netflix, which is reviving the candy-colored kiddie cartoon series but adding some new characters. No, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are not going to have a threesome with one of them.
"Cheerleader Death Squad." The CW has ordered this series, from the showrunners behind "Desperate Housewives" and "Under the Dome" (that'd be Marc Cherry and Neal Baer, respectively) about an elite prep school where the pep squad is made up of spies-in-training. Dan Truly ("Blue...

At its 2014 Digital Content Newfronts presentation, Yahoo announced Sin City Saints, a TV-length series from Arli$$ creator Mike Tollin. Sin City Saints still doesn't have an exact release date, but Yahoo has announced the actors who will make up to show's principal cast, including Andrew Santino, Malin Akerman, and Tom Arnold. Sin City Saints will star Santino (of ABC's Mixology) as the owner of the titular team, a pro basketball franchise based in Las Vegas. A release from Yahoo describes Santino's character as "unpredictable and charismatic," a description reminiscent of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Ackerman, perhaps best known for her role in Watchmen, will play a legal assistant to the NBA Commissioner. Arnold, who has appeared in dozens of productions over the past 20 years, will play a casino host. As you might expect for a show about basketball, Sin City Saints also features several former NBA players among its cast.

CBS just landed a sweet guest spot of Rick Fox from the NBA. He is set to guest star on this season of The McCaarthys. The show about a family who adores basketball seems to be a good match for this NBA star. His role has only been confirmed with no further details on who he will play or when it will air. The show follows the life of a basketball adoring family with an openly gay son who is on the team as his father’s assistant. However, he isn’t the best and puts much of the family under stress.
The show is an odd sitcom that seemed to take on a life of its own. CBSluckily is seeing the benefit of dealing with the topic and typical traits. The show will likely even see a nicer boost from Ricks spot, but we may also see a nice...
