The biggest name in search has been making a mockery of itself, misinforming users that Barack Obama is a Muslim and that humans should eat rocks daily. It is even (trigger warning: self harm) touting the Golden Gate Bridge as the “best bridge to jump off,” highlighting the high fatality rate of suicides attempted there.

We are doing stuff that is indicative of fun,” Arooj Aftab says, quite seriously, in the flat staccato cadence of a test proctor.
The Pakistani-born, Berklee-trained, Brooklyn-based musician is talking about the singing on her new album, Night Reign, out May 31: the doubled vocals, the fresh harmonies, and especially the Auto-Tune that envelops her voice on lead single “Raat Ki Rani” and lends it that spectral pop aura. Aftab remembers asking the mix engineer, “Can you please put, like, T-Pain amounts of Auto-Tune on this and let’s see how it sounds?...

The FCC is considering a new rule that would require the disclosure of the use of artificial intelligence in political ads — while the agency would not prohibit AI-generated content.
FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel on Wednesday announced a new agency proposal that, if adopted, would look into whether radio and TV broadcasters, cable TV operators and satellite TV providers should be required to disclose when there is AI-generated content in candidate or issue-oriented political ads. The agency’s regulatory purview in this area does not extend to online streaming services.
“As artificial intelligence tools become more accessible, the commission wants to make sure consumers are fully informed when the technology is used,” Rosenworcel (pictured above) said in a statement. “Today, I’ve shared with my colleagues a proposal that makes clear consumers have a right to know when AI tools are being used in the political ads they see, and I...

Just in case you weren’t sure where Jimmy Kimmel stood in the upcoming presidential election, he’s making it explicit, taking part in an upcoming fundraiser that will see him in conversation with President Biden and Former President Obama.
The event, which is scheduled to take place June 15th in Los Angeles, comes on the heels of a New York event hosted by Kimmel’s late-night competitor Stephen Colbert. That event, which saw Colbert interview Biden, Obama and Bill Clinton at Radio City Music Hall, raised a record-setting $26 million for Biden’s reelection campaign.
A venue hasn’t yet been announced for Kimmel’s event, but it’s set to include at least two other Hollywood heavy hitters in George Clooney and Julia Roberts, who are being billed as “special guests.”

John Oliver trolled Donald Trump on Last Week Tonight after the former Potus said he had created a new nickname for corn.
The HBO late-night show host dedicated Sunday’s episode to corn and noted the way politicians pander to the corn farmers.
“There is a long history of American politicians being weird around corn,” Oliver said, mentioning Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and George W. Bush.
Oliver gave Trump the honor of being the weirdest discussing corn cutting to a clip of the 2024 presidential hopeful during a Maga rally in New Hampshire.
“I just met non-liquid gold, you know where it was? Iowa! It’s called corn,” Trump said in the clip. “You have more non-liquid gold. They said, ‘What is that?’ I said, ‘Corn!’ They said, ‘We love that idea.'”

Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva, three times president of Brazil, was born in 1945. He grew up poor in Sao Paulo and left school early to help support his family. Having trained as a lathe operator, he reached a milestone when he became the first member of his family to earn more than the minimum wage. Initially reluctant to get involved in politics, he was president of the steelworkers’ union by the time he was 30, leading a strike that achieved better wages that he saw were soon soaked up by a rise in rents. “It was time for workers to think about ruling their own country,” he says in voice-over in Oliver Stone and Rob Wilson’s documentary, simply called Lula.

Lovo, a Berkeley-based AI startup, was accused in a class action lawsuit on Thursday of stealing actors’ voices to create Genny, a publicly accessible AI generator.
Paul Skye Lehrman and Linnea Sage, a New York couple who work as voice actors, alleged that they were deceived into providing voice samples through a freelance website. They were paid $1200 and $400, respectively, for reading scripts, and were told the recordings would be used internally, or for academic purposes.
Years later, they discovered that their voices had been cloned and were being used publicly without their permission or additional payment, the suit alleges. They are seeking to represent every actor whose voice was taken, and to stop Lovo from using those voices without consent and payment.
“You gotta get back control of their voices and their professional destiny,” said Steve Cohen, a partner at Pollock Cohen Llp, who filed the complaint. “There’s gotta...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episodes of "Doctor Who."
It turns out love really is all you need. Well, love and a Time Lord willing to fight off the spirit of music through a delightfully campy song battle that sees literal musical notes fill the air. The showdown between the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), Ruby (Millie Gibson), and the chaotic being known as Maestro (Jinkx Monsoon) in the new season's second episode might be one of the goofiest things that's happened on "Doctor Who" recently -- and it's not even the most over-the-top part of the episode. "The Devil's Chord" takes some deliciously weird risks, the biggest of which is centering its drama on "characters" who aren't exactly historical figures yet: The Beatles.

Steve Bannon’s conviction for failure to comply with a congressional subpoena was upheld by a three-judge federal appeals court today, raising the prospect that the podcaster and right-wing provocateur will have to serve a four-month sentence.
The appeals court decision, made by appointees of Joe Biden, Donald Trump and Barack Obama, was unanimous.
The judges rejected Bannon’s defense — that he was relying on the advice of counsel in ignoring a subpoena from the January 6th Committee.
“As both this court and the Supreme Court have repeatedly explained, a contrary rule would contravene the text of the contempt statute and hamstring Congress’s investigatory authority,” the judges wrote. “Because we have no basis to depart from that binding precedent, and because none of Bannon’s other challenges to his convictions have merit, we affirm.”
The January 6 committee had asked for documents and testimony from Bannon in 2021, but he never complied.

Eric Schultz knows his way around politics. The Washington, D.C. consultant served as deputy White House press secretary during the Obama Administration from 2014-2017. He’s also worked for Sen. Charles Schumer and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
But in the last few years, he’s been getting very familiar with Hollywood, consulting for shows like “Succession” and most recently Alex Garland’s A24 drama “Civil War.”
But now, he’s going in front of the camera. Schultz makes his acting debut with a cameo on Thursday’s season finale of Max’s “The Girls on the Bus.” He plays a press aide who Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist) must convince to let her into a VIP cocktail party at the Democratic National Convention.

Democratic political consultants have some advice if you’d prefer not to have companies track your every move and sell that data to campaigns: avoid mobile games like Candy Crush.
“Political campaigns are a perfect microcosm of the data economy,” Raffi Krikorian, the host of the Technically Optimistic podcast tells Rolling Stone. “You have data brokers who are gonna sell you information, so I can create a model of who I should persuade and turn out and an election. How does that data flow? Where did the data brokers get all this information?...

For the last 10 years, A24 has been home to movies that wouldn’t have been made anywhere else, as low and mid-budget films are almost obsolete in the mainstream Hollywood landscape. But following their commitment to funding risky visions of outsider filmmakers, the Indie outfit has built a pretty strong brand identity and is now set to join forces with one of the best in the game.
Steven Spielberg, who previously spoke highly of A24’s Oscar-nominated The Zone of Interest, is now teaming up with the indie distributor for an adaptation of The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

A24 And Steven Spielberg Developing Adaptation Of James McBride’s ‘The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store’
A24 and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment are teaming to develop an adaptation of James McBride’s acclaimed novel The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store. Insiders say it is still in very early development and that Spielberg would only be producing not directing.
A24 had no comment.
McBride’s novel tells the story of Black and Jewish residents of the Chicken Hill neighborhood of Pottstown, Pennsylvania in the 1920s and ‘30s, though the book opens in 1972 with the discovery of a skeleton at the bottom of a well.
The novel received a number accolades and various lists including being one of the best books of 2023 by NPR and also making President Obama’s list of his favorite books of 2023.
The news was first reported by The InSneider newsletter.

“How many of you had ‘Mark Hamill will lead the press briefing’ on your bingo cards?” the Star Wars icon joked as he took the podium at the White House. “Yeah, me either.”
It’s not such a far-fetched idea, however, when one considers the date. It’s May 3, the last weekday before that sacred Star Wars holiday, May the Fourth. Also, anyone who follows the quick-witted Hamill on social media knows he’s a staunch Democrat.
For his support, Hamill got to meet with Biden before the press briefing and, while Hamill noted that he had visited the White House during the terms of both Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama, “I never was invited into the Oval Office.”
Sounds like he finally checked that one off his bucket list.

José Andrés is a renowned name globally, as well as locally in Washington’s Dmv (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia) area. Ambassadors, civil servants, businessmen, tourists, locals and celebrities — including Rob Reiner, Paris Hilton, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, LL Cool J, Billy Porter, bandleader Chucho Valdés, NBA pro Kyle Kuzma and NFL player Kevin Zeitler — have all dined at his restaurants in DC, of which there are 8 and all are within a walking distance of each other.
One of his most famous concepts is The Bazaar By José Andrés, which has locations in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and Washington. The latter sits inside the Waldorf Astoria Washington hotel — which opened in 2022 — and it’s a perfect match, as the chef and hotel management share the same ethos and values for diversity and inclusion.
Andrés originally was supposed to open his restaurant in what was then the Trump International Hotel.

Now this is just one comparison she thinks is totally uncalled for. Melania Trump has every reason to be furious after it has been suggested that Michelle Obama and her husband Barack Obama are by far bigger style icons than her and her own husband, Donald Trump.
There’s a good chance that she’s so upset about the comparison that she might actually do something about it. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.

Harvey Weinstein made headlines again recently as his conviction on counts of r*pe in New York was reportedly overturned by the New York Court of Appeals. The former studio head became the catalyst for the ‘#MeToo’ and ‘Time’sUp’ movements across the globe and his conviction was regarded as a huge victory for the movement.
Weinstein was known for his alleged unethical business practices even before his serious crimes came to the forefront. He came under fire recently when it became known that his company Miramax reportedly removed author Neil Gaiman’s credits from the posters of the English version of Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke. Gaiman had reportedly been the main translator of the project.

Steven Spielberg has made no secret of his support for Joe Biden’s reelection, and now the Oscar winner is rolling up his sleeves for the team.

We also gain insight into Keith Urban’s sense of humor as Fallon reveals a prank he and Urban once played on Nicole Kidman at an event, plus, the shame-inducing ‘date’ Fallon went on with her years ago.

Update: Supreme Court justices expressed skepticism of Donald Trump’s argument that presidents enjoy broad immunity, but they wrestled with which certain official acts could be shielded from prosecution and which would not.
There were some suggestions of sending the case base to lower courts to decide, on an individual basis, which of the charges against Trump could be deemed as private acts and subject to criminal liability. That is a prospect that could lead to further delay in Trump’s election conspiracy case, perhaps until after the 2024 election.
A number of the justices expressed concerns that their decision in the case would impact future presidents after they leave office and the extent to which they could be subject to criminal prosecution. Justice Samuel Alito hypothesized about political rivals being prosecuted and “a cycle that destabilizes the functioning of our country.”
Justice John Roberts in particular seemed to find troubles...

Since 2009, Taylor Swift and Kanye West have been locked in one of the tensest battles in celebrity history. They mostly stayed out of each other’s ways after their first, infamous, televised moment together until a public reconciliation in 2015 made it seem like all of that was just water under the bridge. But who knew the worst was yet to come?
Things between Swift and West would not only worsen immensely in 2016, after West released his song “Famous,” but their web would soon entangle Kim Kardashian, Scooter Braun, and even Justin Bieber.

You can’t please all the people all of the time — even if you’re as popular as Taylor Swift. Having attained a somehow higher level of mega-celebrity with her record-breaking Eras Tour and a closely followed romance with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs (who are headed back to the Super Bowl as the defending NFL champs), the singer now faces the perplexing wrath of Maga conspiracy theorists who have decided the league and the relationship are rigged to help Joe Biden’s chances in the 2024 presidential election.

In 2018, Michelle and Barack Obama's production company Higher Ground signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, the biggest streaming service in the world. The Obamas were set to produce a number of high-profile projects, both scripted and unscripted.
Their first scripted project will premiere on May 9th, and it's not what you might have expected from the former President and First Lady. Bodkin is a dark comedy/mystery/thriller set in a small Irish town, starring comedy legend Will Forte.
What's It About?
True crime podcasters Gilbert (Forte), Dove (Siobhán Cullen), and Emmy (Robyn Cara) are desperately hoping to find a story juicy enough to make their podcast stand out in a crowded market. They decide to head to Ireland, where three strangers once disappeared from the (fictional) small coastal town of Bodkin.
The podcasters come to Bodkin on the festival of Samhain (which one character flippantly describes as 'the Irish Day of the Dead'.
