- Montgomery was a close friend of Cole Porter. After the composer's death, Montgomery was named trustee of the Cole Porter Musical and Literary Property Trusts. He once mistakenly allowed the maker of a bathroom cleanser to use the Porter song "I've Got You Under My Skin" in a television advertisement as "I've Got You Under My Rim".
