Reports are leaking through various news outlets that Chelsea forward Alexandre Pato could be leaving the club before his contract expires, even before making a single appearance for the Blues. His career stats for Chelsea currently stand at zero minutes on the pitch, and zero goals, allowing him entry into a very unfortunate clan which no player wants to be associated with; the worst Premier League signings of all time.
Thousands of players have come and gone during the twenty four year span of England’s top division – some, such as Luis Suarez and Gianfranco Zola, are revered as the greatest signings in Premier League history, but there is a collective so bad that they’re permanently engrained in the minds of football supporters up and down the country.

As seems to be the case every single year, Sunderland head into the final stretch of the season with both their Premier League fate in the balance.
Master clingers-on Sunderland have a reputation for starting Premier League seasons slowly and bailing themselves out late on. If they’re to survive in 2016, this campaign will have been no different. Manager Sam Allardyce has a monumental task at hand but the Black Cats look like they have a fighting chance to survive once again.
In spite of their inability to come out the blocks flying, Sunderland have a weird, uncanny knack of springing a surprise on the world of football. There have been numerous times over the years where no one has given the Wearsiders a hoping hell, and they’ve gone and won the game.
Here’s 10 times Sunderland defied all footballing logic, featuring the end of a 77-game unbeaten record,...

Jonas Gutierrez has claimed that Newcastle United saw him as a “liability rather than an asset” at his employment tribunal in Birmingham.
The Argentinian is suing the North East club for a fee of around £2m for disability discrimination, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2013.
Gutierrez was released by Newcastle at the end of last season, with his last game being the relegation decider against West Ham United, where the cancer survivor’s goal helped the Magpies stay in the Premier League.
The winger underwent surgery in October 2013 to remove the tumour. In a witness statement presented to the tribunal, Gutierrez said that he was called into the then manager Alan Pardew’s office in December, where he was told that he did not feature in Newcastle’s future plans. He was then sent on loan to Norwich City for the second half of the season.

The Premier League has become European football’s financial superpower, with its clubs sharing in a windfall of more than £8.3-billion following a new broadcast deal reached for 2016-19. It’s an incredible sum of money, a staggering 50% increase on the current £5.5-billion deal.
Due to this deal there will undoubtedly be clubs who increasingly use such riches to try and drive success, buying highly-rated players on expensive wages; others will use their money to invest in youth and try to uncover the next Ronaldo or Messi.
Despite the riches of the Premier League, taking such drastic action to build and improve a club will always be a gamble. Should your club get such dealings wrong and bring in duff players on big money, or suffer through mismanagement, the consequences of dropping down a division will be greater than ever.

It hasn’t exactly been the biggest transfer window for Manchester United: the biggest news so far has been the removal of perceived toxic influence Victor Valdes on loan to Standard Liege. The lack of incoming players has been a frustration, particularly in light of the criticisms of United’s tactics and current playing style, and it’s hard not to think that there was more business to be done this winter.
The reality is that United’s squad simply isn’t good enough or strong enough in depth to have made a title challenge a real possibility, but there are still players currently on the books who Louis Van Gaal should still be looking to move on, if only to change things up.
Even with the relatively small squad (not taking into account younger players and fringe players), the Red Devils’ manager should be working...

Newcastle United have taken Swiss under 21 international Albian Ajeti on trial with a view to a permanent deal next summer.
The 18-year-old, who is Albanian by birth, has made 17 appearances for Fc Basel’s first team, scoring five goals. He’s been markedly more prolific for the Swiss side’s youth team however, notching 18 goals in 40 appearances.
The striker is out-of-contract in the summer and is spending some time on Tyneside with the club’s development team in order seal a move to United.
Ajeti recently hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after breaking the news of former teammate Mohamed Elneny’s move to Arsenal. The trialist posted a picture on his official Facebook page with the caption “I’m happy for you Mohamed El Neney success in Arsenal.”
Neither club has confirmed the move.

Desperate times call for desperate measures…
After Newcastle lost yet another aerial battle in their own box yesterday which cost them defeat against Arsenal, The Telegraph link The Magpies with a move for 6 foot 2 inch Hull City defender Michael Dawson.
Initially the link seems strange given that Newcastle don’t sign players over 30 (Dawson is 32) and usually look abroad to sign their new recruits… but when you see how poor the club continually are with good-old fashioned defending of balls that come into the box, maybe going for a competent centre-half isn’t a bad call.
We should also take note that Newcastle are looking to offload Mike Williamson to Wolves in this January transfer window and Dawson could be seen as an easy upgrade for the slow centre-half they already have.

Newcastle United won a game of football. Steve McClaren saved his job for another week.
That’s all that matters.
Georginio Wijnaldum’s cross-cum-shot that deflected off Martin Skrtel and into the roof of the Liverpool net, and sumptuous chip with what as almost the last kick of the game, was the difference on an ugly afternoon at St James’ Park.
With just two wins in the Barclays Premier League so far this season, Steve McClaren was desperate for a victory against Liverpool to silence the boo boys at St James’ Park.
Last weekend’s 5-1 humiliation away at former manager Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace meant Magpies headed into the game second bottom of the league. Bournemouth’s shock win away at reigning Champions Chelsea last night meant this encounter had more than a whiff of must win – or perhaps must not lose – about it.

The last few seasons have been a struggle on Wearside, and plenty of good managers have all paid the price of failure. One of the most surprising aspects of the team’s demise is that there are actually some fairly decent players hidden in the squad.
FIFA 16 gives you the opportunity to ditch the losing mentality surrounding the club and simply play to their potential. Jeremain Lens, Jermain Defoe, Yann M’Vila and Younes Kaboul are all more than capable in the game, and they come with a supporting cast worthy of a very respectable finish.
There are plenty of handy hints to be given if you’re to stand any chance of surviving an entire season, a somewhat rare feat for Sunderland managers nowadays. Who to sign, who to sell, which tactic to use, and which hidden gem to unearth…

Since Mike Ashley bought Sir John Hall’s 41.6% stake in Newcastle United back in 2007, the club has become a grim prospect for any Football Manager enthusiast to start their virtual life at. We all enjoy an FM challenge but every year Newcastle have a squad full of bang average players, no money and unrealistic expectations, making the gaming experience at St James’ Park extremely unpleasant.
This year’s game has the potential to be different. There is a renewed philosophy on Tyneside and no longer will you be set the awkward task of taking on a sombre Alan Pardew side or a perplexed John Carver outfit. Trying to restore and motivate Newcastle United over the past four year’s (and probably a lot longer) has been like asking a London Marathon finisher if he fancies going for a jog eight minutes after finishing the 26.2 miles.

It’s that beautiful time of year when the FIFA hype steps up a notch with the demo set for release, and the new game close to being unleashed on the public. Player ratings are starting to flow from EA Sports’ website, while there are unconfirmed – but highly likely – ratings floating around for more than just the Top 50 players ahead of FIFA 16.
Sunderland are a strange team. After an alarmingly dire start to the season, there have been some quality additions to the Black Cats’ squad and all of a sudden they look like a team who could enjoy a decent season in the Premier League under Dick Advocaat’s stewardship.
These extra additions of class have gone a long way towards enhancing their virtual standings. The official confirmation is yet to come from EA, meaning one or two ratings may be subject to change, however...

There aren’t many things worse than the sudden transfer of your favourite player to another club. Before you know it, they’re wearing a different kit and smiling as they hold aloft their new team’s scarf and pose for photos. Apparently they don’t care about Newcastle United, St James’ Park or Eldon Square Shopping Centre as much as you had originally given them credit for and now you’re being forced to somehow move on.
It’s brutal. Football fans are a loyal, nostalgic bunch and outside of their families, partners and pets the only thing that gets their loins burning is the sight of their favourite footballer bounding across 100 yards of green turf. And if that is suddenly taken away from them (which can happen at any moment during the summer or during the month of January), then things will get kicked,...

Thierry Henry has labelled John Carver’s 2015 Newcastle United side “one of the worst teams” he’s ever seen in the Barclays Premier League – and admits he is enthused by the changes Steve McClaren is implementing at the Magpies.
Carver won just three games as Newcastle boss throughout the entirety of the second-half of the 2014-15 campaign, and the Magpies picked up three points only once on the road under his tutelage.
Describing the Magpies’ away performances as “shocking” in 2015, Henry insists that McClaren’s Newcastle are far removed from the Carver edition – and that their performance in the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Saturday was “good”.

While appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Arsenal legend Henry said of Carver’s Newcastle:

Crystal Palace signed Yohan Cabaye for a transfer record fee of £10 million this summer after no big clubs attempted to sign him, according to Espn.
But, the former Newcastle United midfielder admits he is very happy to be back in the Premier League and reunited with Alan Pardew.
The Frenchman who scored on his Palace debut admitted that things did not work out for him at Paris Saint Germain during his 18 months at the club. Cabaye made just six starts in all competitions for Laurent Blanc’s side and scored two goals.
Speaking to Espn, the midfielder admitted that things to not go to plan after leaving the Magpies in January 2014 and despite no Champions League clubs trying to sign him he is now feeling good at Palace.

Daryl Janmaat has apologised for his “stupid” 41st-minute sending-off during Newcastle United’s 2-0 loss against Swansea City.
The right-back was dismissed for two bookable offences, both for needless fouls on Swansea winger Jefferson Montero in the opposition half, and while Newcastle were 1-0 down at the Liberty Stadium.
Janmaat’s red card effectively left the Magpies with no way back in south Wales, and the defender has admitted he let his teammates down.

Speaking to Nufc.co.uk, Janmaat said:

“The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, he (Montero) ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.

Newcastle United’s coaches are in the process of implementing a “philosophy” that will see the Magpies “attack”, “score goals” and “rise to the next level” in the Barclays Premier League this season, claims Paul Simpson.
The Magpies assistant head coach insists Steve McClaren and his backroom staff will not look to play “pretty, pretty, tappy-tappy football”, but will instead aim to “get bodies in the box and score goals”.
There has already been an obvious shift in playing style from the Alan Pardew and John Carver days into the McClaren, Simpson and Ian Cathro era – and Simpson insists the changes are still a work in progress.

Fabricio Coloccini has revealed that Steve McClaren’s appointment as Newcastle United boss played a “big part” in his decision to stay at the club – and that he wanted to be a key member of the “new” Magpies, although he did admit it will “take time” to change things on Tyneside.
The Magpies captain, who ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year deal at the club last week, sent an email to Magpies supporters on Thursday night and confirmed there had been interest in his signature from elsewhere.

Newcastle United will provide “tough” opposition and Swansea City’s recent good record against the Magpies will bear no significance to this clash, believes Garry Monk.
The Swans boss has admitted to being impressed both by Newcastle’s appointment of Steve McClaren as head coach, as well as their recruitment this summer, and thinks that the fact the Magpies have lost five out of the past six encounters between the pair will bear no significance to this weekend’s result.
Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba and Ivan Toney have all been added to the Magpies’ squad during the current transfer window, additions that have impressed Monk.

And Monk believe Swansea will have to play just as well as they did in their 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge if they are to come out on top on Saturday (3pm).

After a string of mediocre performances and disappointing results in pre-season, Newcastle United opened up their Premier League campaign with an exciting 2-2 draw against tough opponents in Southampton. Ahead of the game, there were concerns whether the side would be ready, with defensive deficiencies still prevalent and questions over who would actually start. Truth be told, if you offered most Toon fans a draw at home against the side that finished seventh last year before the game, they would likely have taken it.
To get so close to victory, however, fans were in the end left coming away wondering what might have been. A draw was probably a fair result but to see the Magpies have more of the possession and fashion some chances makes a nice change from last season and gives signs for optimism.
The two goals conceded were disappointing though, with defenders...

Newcastle United assistant coach, Paul Simpson has stated that Paul Dummett and Remy Cabella could be back to fitness in the next couple of weeks and confirmed that Vurnon Anita is fit to play against Swansea this weekend.
The pair have been injured since the beginning of pre-season and are not expected to play against Swansea City on Saturday or against Manchester United the following week.
Cabella, has been suffering with a thigh injury and Dummett has a hamstring problem that reoccurred while the defender was on international duty with Wales.
Both players are crucial to the Magpies squad and their first-team experience gives Steve McClaren further options to explore.

Vurnon Anita believes there’s always been a “connection between Dutch people and Newcastle United” – and that part of the reason behind that is because Tyneside is “close to Holland”.
The 26-year-old’s geography may be questionable – although it’s likely he is referring to the fact it is easy to travel between Newcastle and Holland via ferry or plane – but his assertion that the Dutch have a strong connection with the Toon is an important one given the composition of Steve McClaren’s current squad.
Alongside Anita, Newcastle have four other Dutchmen on their playing staff – and the midfielder believes another reason behind the bond between Holland and Tyneside is due to the array of Oranje stars to have represented the Magpies down the years.

I’ve been told by the internet that I am hard to please and questioned about whether I was actually watching Newcastle United’s battling draw against Southampton. This stemmed from my ‘damning’ ratings of Chancel Mbemba and Vurnon Anita who each earned a a six out of 10 for their mismatched performances.
So, yes, while a lot of you seemed to be watching the return of ‘The Entertainers’, I’ll admit that I was on a different channel altogether. I watched a spirited performance that demonstrated a definite philosophy being followed and a rejuvenated energy pulsing through the starting XI, management and crowd. But in amongst that I saw huge defensive frailties, mis-placed passes and a Southampton side that will not play so poorly again all season.
Mbemba certainly looked an upgrade on what the Magpies already had and was excellent with the ball at his feet,...

Noise. Deafening noise. Hair-raising, deafening noise.
That’s exactly what had been missing from St James’ Park over the past 18 months as Newcastle United was dragged away from its traditional roots, careering uncontrollably from one disaster to another and destroying the relationship between the loyal, adoring supporters and their club.
Yet on Sunday a tsunami of noise that had built up gradually over a summer when optimism had slowly dripped back into the hearts and minds of the Toon faithful – courtesy of a slight tidal shift from the Magpies’ hierarchy – crashed down over the famous old stadium and made a welcome return to Tyneside.

Things are still not how they should be at Newcastle United, far from it, but the opening Barclays Premier League match of the season against Southampton seemed to signal very definitively that a sea-change has taken place on Tyneside.

Steve McClaren believes no other Barclays Premier League side “has got a tougher start” than Newcastle United – and his Magpies should be reasonably happy with a point from their opener against a “tough” Southampton side.
In his first competitive match in charge of the Magpies at St James’ Park, McClaren’s side were denied victory via a late Shane Long goal that saw the match finish 2-2 – and the Saints could even have nicked it late on, with Saido Mane squandering a couple of golden opportunities.
Goals from Papiss Cisse and debutant Georginio Wijnaldum had put the Magpies ahead following Graziano Pelle’s opener for the visitors, and Long’s header secured Southampton a point.

Steve McClaren has admitted that Newcastle United still have to do a “lot of work on” defending set-pieces and crosses after the Magpies conceded two headed goals against Southampton.
First Graziano Pelle out-jumped Chancel Mbemba to power home the opening goal of the game on Sunday, before Shane Long broke Toon hearts by heading in a 79th-minute equaliser at the back-post at St James’ Park.
The Magpies’ opening Barclays Premier League fixture of the 2015-16 campaign finished 2-2 – with Papiss Cisse chesting in an equaliser before Georginio Wijnaldum headed a debut goal for the hosts – and Newcastle head coach McClaren knows defensive improvements still need to be made.

In fact, McClaren believes there is still “30%-40%” to come from his team – and he does not want Newcastle to concede “disappointing” goals like Southampton’s equaliser in the future.

Georginio Wijnaldum was overwhelmed by the atmosphere at St James’ Park during his Premier League debut – and promised he “wants to score more goals and make action” for Newcastle United this season following his opening strike for the club.
The 24-year-old was denied a dream debut despite putting Newcastle 2-1 up with a magnificent header in the second-half after Shane Long equalised for Southampton in the 79th minute during the Magpies’ Barclays Premier League opener on Sunday.
And, despite being “sad” that Newcastle could only draw 2-2, Wijnaldum has declared that there is still far more to come from him. Incredibly, Wijnaldum enjoyed a 95% pass-completion rate (21 passes), 37 touches and a goal during the 81 minutes he played before being replaced by Siem de Jong.

Papiss Cisse believes he is now finally fit and “ready to play” for Newcastle United – and insists he is going absolutely nowhere this summer.
The Senegalese striker has been linked with a move to Turkish sides Besiktas and Trabzonspor in recent months, but the 30-year-old claims he is “happy” to stay at St James’ Park, even despite Aleksandar Mitrovic’s arrival from Anderlecht.
Interestingly, Cisse netted 11 times in just 11 Premier League starts last season, but the forward admits he has only just returned to full fitness – and believes that is the reason he was sharpest to react to his goal in the 2-2 draw with Southampton on Sunday.
Scott Heppell/AP
Speaking to The Chronicle after the game, Cisse said:
“I have a contract at Newcastle United. I need to be professional every time I play. I don’t have a team to leave to.

The positives far outweighed the negatives as Newcastle United battled to a 2-2 draw against Southampton on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League season at St James’ Park.
Graziano Pelle opened the scoring with a sensational header before Papiss Cisse chested the ball over the line after a Massadio Haidara cross looped over the head of Saints keeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
New £14.5 million man Georginio Wijnaldum powered home a header early in the second-half after a sweeping United counter attack and pinpoint cross from Gabriel Obertan to give Newcastle the lead, before Shane Long out-jumped Daryl Janmaat to secure a point for the Europa League side.
Even though United had much of the game in their favour, they can count themselves ever so slightly fortunate to come away from the match with a point as Saints had a number of opportunities to snatch all three points.

Georginio Wijnaldum was denied a dream debut as Southampton came from behind to break Newcastle United hearts and draw 2-2 at St James’ Park.
Steve McClaren’s first game in charge of the Magpies in the Barclays Premier League was a very-entertaining affair, but unfortunately his side could only deliver him a point.
All-too-familiar defensive deficiencies saw Newcastle concede from a Graziano Pelle header, before goals from Papiss Cisse and debutant Wijnaldum put the Magpies in front. However, 10 minutes from the end, Shane Long again exploited the Magpies’ poor defence to nod in a Saints equaliser and rob both Wijnaldum and McClaren of a victory on their respective Newcastle bows.

Yohan Cabaye has blasted Mike Ashley’s “mentality” at Newcastle United – claiming it is the owner’s prudence which is preventing the club he “loved” from becoming “one of the best in the country”.
The 29-year-old Frenchman has been reunited with former Magpies boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace this summer after a £10 million transfer, with the Magpies reportedly deciding against bringing the midfielder back to Tyneside, a place where he was adored by Toon supporters.
Having left Newcastle to join Paris Saint-Germain in January 2014 in a £19 million deal, Cabaye won trophies but failed to play regular first-team football in the French capital and has now returned to the Barclays Premier League.

Will Buckley could be edging closer to leaving Sunderland as Leeds and Birmingham upped their interest in signing the winger, according to Hitc Sport.
The 25-year-old is wanted by the two Championship clubs on loan, though Sunderland would ideally want to sell the player as quickly as possible for a £1.5 million asking price, cutting their losses on last season’s investment.
Liam Bridcutt was the other former-Brighton man drafted into Sunderland by Gus Poyet, but while the Black Cats would also welcome offers for the midfielder, Buckley appears to be inching closer to the exit.
The winger failed to make much of an impact during his Premier League debut season, starting just 9 times and making 13 substitute appearances with no goals and only 2 assists to his name. He is seen as deadwood by Dick Advocaat who is eager to move players out in order to create his own squad.

It’s fair to say that Sunderland haven’t had the best of decades so far. A trio of solid (if unspectacular) seasons have given way to a perennial struggle at the wrong end of the table, resulting in three consecutive narrow escapes from relegation to the Championship.
Despite this, the Stadium of Light has seen a number of fantastic players pass through its doors. Although they must be considered diamonds in an undeniably poor collective, their individual merits should be celebrated. Without certain figures, Sunderland would definitely have been relegated by now. They would never have enjoyed their stunning 2013/14 League Cup run, nor the bragging rights of five consecutive Tyne/Wear derby victories.
Wearside has hardly been the most stable of environments in which a footballer can thrive, with no less than five managers taking the helm in recent years. However, despite the contrasting styles and preferences of Bruce,...

Newcastle United are set to rekindle their long-held interest in West Ham United defender James Tomkins, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that the 26-year-old could be available for transfer this summer and that the Magpies are keeping an eye on his east London situation.
Long-tracked by Newcastle’s chief scout Graham Carr, Tomkins was close to move to St James’ Park two summers ago as he was also a firm favourite of Alan Pardew, only for it to fall through at the final hour.

Able to play at centre-back, defensive-midfield and, if necessary, full-back, Tomkins would add versatility to Newcastle – something the Magpies hierarchy cherish in potential recruits.
At 6ft 3in he would also offer some added height and power to McClaren’s defensive options. And, with more than 100 Premier League appearances to his name, he is one of the...

Ricky Alvarez is set to become one of the most controversial Sunderland transfer stories in recent years, with Italian giants Inter Milan set to take the Black Cats to court over his future.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder was initially signed for a £1 million loan fee, with the Premier League side obliged to stump up a further £7.5 million to make the deal permanent providing they survived in the top flight.
Of course, Dick Advocaat’s men successfully fought off relegation, but Alvarez made just 13 league appearances during the season thanks to a problematic knee injury. Sunderland argue that they can back out of the deal after Inter delayed a decision for Alvarez to undergo surgery.
They claim that if he’d had the surgery sooner, he could have made a greater impact in red and white.
However, on the other side of the deal, Inter believe that...

When Sunderland are linked to an Italian international star plying his trade for Juventus in the same all-conquering side as the iconic Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon, fans are allowed to get carried away.
Emanuele Giaccherini arrived on Wearside in 2013 during the whirlwind Paolo Di Canio ‘era’ for around £6 million, and captured the imagination of the locals. It was an exciting time, with expectations set high for the new Premier League season.
Of course, everybody knows that simply wasn’t the case. Jozy Altidore was about as much use as a three-legged chair, the master magician Cabral evaporated into thin air, Di Canio left in fury, and the whole club defaulted back to square one – and Giaccherini was hauled down with it.
The Italian was accustomed to being surrounded by quality. He was an amateur in the art of ‘struggling’, a talent mastered by Sunderland. Giaccherini...

Sammy Ameobi has signed a new contract at Newcastle United – but he will immediately head out on loan to Cardiff City for the 2015-16 season.
The winger’s contract ran out at the end of the last campaign but the Magpies have offered him a deal, which The Chronicle claim he has now signed.
Interestingly, the paper has also firmed up reports that have been circling for weeks that Ameobi will temporarily head out on loan – with Cardiff having held off competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Ameobi’s signature.
Twitter
Strangely, Ameobi’s sister – Titi – also appeared to let the cat out of the bag on Twitter by leaving this message alongside a photo of her brother:
“My Lil Bro Leavin Home Properly 4 The 1st Time 2 Start New Venture @ Cardiff City! All The Best Lil Bro, God Has Already Gone B4 U & Made Ur Path Straight!

Newcastle United supporters adore their No 9s. Players such as Hughie Gallagher, Jackie Milburn, Wyn Davies, Malcolm MacDonald, Andy Cole and, of course, Alan Shearer have adorned the iconic black-and-white jersey down the years, receiving the affection of the St James’ Park crowd as they hammered in goal upon goal.
To the supporters on the terraces at St James’ Park the player who has been given the responsibility of wearing the No 9 out on the field is not merely parading around in just another shirt – he is carrying the hopes and dreams of the Toon faithful.
For some, the number has proved a burden that has lain heavy on their back. Obafemi Martins, for example, simply could not live up to the huge weight of expectation that comes with the No 9 shirt on Tyneside.
But what about Papiss Cisse? The 30-year-old Senegalese international arrived at Newcastle...

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has admitted he was “relieved” to finally get his squad together for pre-season training – although he is more excited for when he can see the Magpies’ internationals at close hand on Monday.
The Magpies squad met up for their first pre-season training session on Wednesday and McClaren revealed he was glad to get the hard work started ahead of their opening friendly with Gateshead at the International Stadium a week on Friday.
Following the Heed match-up, Newcastle then fly out to the USA for a three-match tour, before away trips to Sheffield United and York City, and then a final pre-season game with Borussia Monchengladbach at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United have been linked with a sensational loan swoop for Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli, despite his horrendous first season at Anfield.
Winnersports claim in an “exclusive” that the Magpies have enquired about Balotelli’s availability on loan for the 2015-16 season, although they also say the club are yet to receive a response from the Reds.
The report also claims that Newcastle made an earlier approach to Liverpool for Rickie Lambert, although they were rebuffed in their advances for the ex-Southampton man.
Gregorio Borgia/AP
Yet it is claimed that Balotelli could make the switch to St James’ Park this summer that will surprise Newcastle supporters – particularly due to the fact he is a controversial figure.
The 24-year-old Italian started his career at Lumezzane before moving to Inter Milan in 2007. He initially impressed Jose Mourinho at the San Siro, only for the now-Chelsea boss to...

Sammy Ameobi faces a huge decision over his Newcastle United future as he sits down with head coach Steve McClaren to discuss his next career move.
The winger’s contract officially expired on July 1st and he has been offered a new deal by the club – although he is yet to put pen to paper.
Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are hoping to immediately take Ameobi on a season-long loan deal if he does decide to agree a new Magpies deal after speaking to McClaren, claim WalesOnline.

West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion have also been linked to the winger, who is the brother of former Newcastle and Crystal Palace striker Shola Ameobi.

Manchester United are interested in signing Everton full-back Seamus Coleman this summer, reigniting a potential deal that former manager David Moyes was believed to keen on during his time at the club.
According to Sky Sports, United are yet to make any formal contact, but Louis Van Gaal is a firm admirer of the Irish international after witnessing another season of strong displays.
Winger Antonio Valencia filled United’s right-back berth for much of the 2014/15 campaign and although the Ecuadorian did an admirable job, it has been a problem position for a number of years.
Rafael has been unable to prove himself after months of further frustrating fitness issues, while the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are much better suited to the centre of defence, despite each having played at right-back on a number of occasions in the past.

Newcastle Transfer News Round-Up: Every Player The Magpies Have Been Linked With From June 22nd-28th
Richard Sellers/Empics Sport
Newcastle United have a massive summer ahead of them. Having only just confirmed their Premier League status on the final day of last season, they want to avoid a repeat of such a scenario during the 2015-16 campaign.
Steve McClaren was unveiled as the Magpies’ new boss more than two-and-a-half weeks ago and yet he has not been able to unveil his first signing at the club. Newcastle have been linked with upwards of 70 – yes that is correct – faces so far this transfer window but the club have failed to get even one signing over the line.
Players will depart St James’ Park in the coming weeks, but equally, at least six are believed to be likely to arrive on Tyneside. Centre-backs, wingers and strikers are of the utmost priority, with at least two proven forwards also wanted by the Magpies.
As ever, plenty of players...

Newcastle United as we live and breath here in 2015 are a stepping stone.
Any player that comes through the door at St James’ Park today are sold a wonderful tale of how United can provide them with the suitable platform to showcase their talents which will have bigger Champions League clubs queueing up for their signature.
Unfortunately, Newcastle will be stuck in this mode until Mike Ashley and his cost effective ways of building a football team are long gone. Although, you would be forgiven for thinking that United could feasibly build something special on the pitch if any potential signings this summer take time to do a bit of research on certain predecessors who used St James’ Park as the proverbial Newcastle’s Got Talent stage…

Newcastle United are continuing to monitor Cameroon international Joel Matip’s situation at Schalke 04 – although the Bundesliga side’s manager claims the defender is not interested in moving to St James’ Park.
Schalke would be willing to listen to offers of around £10 million this summer for the 23-year-old due to the fact he is entering the final year of his contract.
Defenders are high on the Magpies’ priority list as they look to strengthen this summer and The Daily Mail claims that Schalke, whose manager Roberto di Matteo recently resigned, are contemplating offloading him.

A player who has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in the past, Matip can operate a centre-back or defensive-midfield.

Newcastle United are looking to improve their forward lineup this summer but are looking to offload Papiss Cisse – and have reportedly turned down offers for the Senegalese striker already.
According to The Chronicle, the Magpies want £10 million for a striker who has just celebrated his 30th birthday earlier and who struggled with a knee injury throughout the 2014-15 season.
Despite the injury, Cisse was Newcastle’s top scorer last season as he netted an impressive 11 goals in just 22 Premier League appearances.

However, Newcastle are drawing up a final list of striking transfer targets for this summer – with Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin, West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino, West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho, Wolfsburg’s Bas Dost and Watford’s Troy Deeney all believed to be seen as potential recruits.
With new head coach Steve McClaren given the freedom to reshape his squad this summer,...

Newcastle United have officially unveiled Steve McClaren as their permanent head coach a full six months after Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace.
The former England, Middlesbrough and Derby County boss had been the favourite for the role ever since Pardew left the Magpies for the Eagles at the turn of the year and has penned a three-year-deal at St James’ Park.
McClaren’s contract has the option for another five years which could see him in charge for the next eight years.
And the 54-year-old’s remit includes a top eight Premier League finish and a cup win.
However, having reportedly turned the Magpies down on two occasions already in 2015 – first immediately after Pardew left in January and then with three matches left of the season – McClaren has finally agreed to take up the position having been sacked as Derby County boss last month.
