Juan Pablo Mantilla was born in Cali, Colombia. At a very young age he
started playing saxophone and piano. When Juan Pablo was 16 years old
he was already working professionally; performing and composing in many
different settings, including the Symphony Orchestra of el Valle, Big
Band Departamental, and other rock and jazz bands.
Juan Pablo's deep interest in all the different aspects of music, took
him in 1997 to study composition and film scoring at the Berklee
College of Music in Boston. Still in college Juan Pablo started scoring
movies. In 2002 moved to New York City to pursue his master's degree in
composition and film music at the New York University. Some of his most
important mentors are 'Teese Gohl' and 'Sonny Kompanek'.
After finishing his studies at NYU, Juan Pablo stayed in New York City
and continued working in the film and music industries as a composer,
orchestrator, arranger and producer. His works have been characterized
by the use of a wide range of genres, styles, and ethnicities,
achieving a universal and engaging sound.
