John Wick is back, and for the first time he’ll be doing his business during the summer movie slate. Ahead of a May release, the first trailer has now debuted for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Once again directed by Chad Stahelski, the story follows Keanu Reeves’ character on the run after the cliffhanger that ended the last chapter, which featured a global call-out that put a price on his head.

They have a past, and they get involved with The High Table, this kind of overlording entity.”

Often threatening sentimentality yet never quite sinking into it, Josh Barrett and Marc Menchaca's This Is Where We Live benefits from the good taste of the filmmakers, whose appetite for understatement ensures that the picture maintains dramatic effectiveness and only rarely lurches into histrionics.
Menchaca stars as Noah, an out-of-work handyman in Texas hill country hired as an aide to August (Tobias Segal), a young man with cerebral palsy. An unlikely friendship ensues, but rather than mining TV-movie sappiness, the filmmakers employ a strategy of even-handed observation, presenting a comprehensive portrait of Noah's work (taking August to the bathroom, bathing him), not just simply highlighting the pleasant moments (like an exhilarating scene where Noah takes August...

Christine Lahti and Tobias Segal light up in Petunia.
An offbeat family of New Yorkers, the Petunias, comes to terms with their own misgivings about life, relationships and the sheer unpredictability of love itself in the 2012 independent comedy-drama film Petunia.
The movie weaves together the lives of brothers Charlie (Tobias Segal, R.I.P.D.), Adrian (Jimmy Heck), and Michael (Eddie Kaye Thomas, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas) as they unlearn everything their psychoanalyst parents have taught them.
While Michael’s cynical wife Vivian (Thora Birch, American Beauty) discovers she is pregnant, the family is also changing. Charlie’s would be boyfriend George (Michael Urie, The Decoy Bride) is in a polyamorous relationship with fitness fanatic Robin (Brittany Snow, Pitch Perfect) and Adrian has developed an unrelenting sex addiction. Meanwhile, meddling parents Felicia (Christine Lahti, ...And Justice for All) and Percy (David Rasche,...

Mary-Louise Parker’s character in R.I.P.D. is probably the best written in the film, so it’s not surprising that she came aboard the project, especially when Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges were already attached. Parker chatted with us briefly recently at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Columbus Circle here in New York City.
DC: So, was it a little bit of a letdown being in an action movie and not really getting to be in an action scene and do some action, or was it kind of a relief to not work with those elements?
Mary-Louise Parker: Not really, um, because generally the action, the heavy action scenes, there’s a big reset afterwards so there’s like hours in between takes, you know what I mean? So, there’s a lot of sitting around, there’s a lot of technicalities and I prefer getting to interact with the other actors.

During a tightly packed press conference earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds (looking dapper and slightly bored) and Jeff Bridges (appearing relaxed and ever curious) delighted a crowd of journalists who were all probably a little more into the actors themselves than the movie they happened to be promoting - but that’s usually the case.
The proceedings were light-hearted with a few laughs as both actors seemed genuinely happy to be around each other again.
DC: Ryan, you’ve done a number comic book films now with Green Lantern, Blade: Trinity, X-Men: Origins, this one, hopefully Deadpool … Is there something about the genre that appeals to you? Do you find it more fun to act in films that aren’t necessarily grounded in reality? And Jeff, these are films that we don’t usually see you in. You’ve done Iron Man but comic films you really haven’t been a part of,...

Like most projects R.I.P.D. had its fair share of problems on its way to the big screen, and recently screenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay discussed the lengthy process and even a bit more. Check it out!
“A lot of the core scenes from our early drafts are still there," Matt Manfredi tells Collider. "They’ve remained through every version of the script. I think where it changed a little bit from the first draft to the last draft is that it just got bigger and bigger in scope. And so, the finale was a smaller set piece in our first draft and it developed. We were in a meeting recently, and we were like, “Do you remember when this ended on a farm, like Witness?””
Hay adds, “…But in the movie, it’s a lot of two guys driving around in a car together and driving each other insane.

Homeland star and San Angelo native Marc Menchaca and Josh Barrett teamed up for their writing and directorial debut, This Is Where We Live, an intimate look at a family wrought with physical and emotional troubles. The duo were in attendance for the movie's north Texas premiere at the Dallas International Film Festival last week. During the post-screening Q&A, the filmmakers revealed that although the story is fictional, one of the main characters was inspired by Menchaca's close friend Thomas, who has cerebral palsy.
This Is Where We Live brings viewers into a small-town family's home, where every member of the Sutton family suffers, Diane (C.K. McFarland) ignores her own health issues to meet the demands of her full-time job as a stocker at the local supermarket and to take care of her son August (Tobias Segal), who suffers from cerebral palsy. While the SXSW Film Festival sometimes earns headlines for the genre fare that makes waves with the audiences that flock to Austin each year, it's a place where strong dramas and unique stories can also unspool. And this year filmmakers Josh Barrett and Marc Menchaca are hoping their feature effort "This Is Where We Live" will resonate in the Narrative Feature competition slot. If Menchaca's name or face seem familiar to you (he also takes a role in 'Tiwwl') you may recognize him as Lauder Wakefield, the disabled, alcoholic vet who went up against Brody in the second season of "Homeland." But here he has a wholly different part as Noah, a small-town handyman who becomes a caregiver to August, a young man with cerebral palsy (Tobias Segal). It's not the most likely of pairs, but as you'll see in this exclusive clip, August's sister Laney (Frankie Shaw), shows how they can better connect.

Universal announced today that their horror comedy R.I.P.D. will be released in 3D. In retrospect that's pretty cool because we make a habit out of getting ripped in the third dimension all the time.

South by Southwest (SXSW) is just one of many film festivals, we here at Sound On Sight cover yearly. The fest, which takes place every spring in Austin, Texas, began in 1987, and has continued to grow in size every year. The fest announced the first wave of films back in early January, and the lineup included some highly anticipated films such as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Evil Dead, Downloaded and Spring Breakers. Now the full lineup has been announced, and it just might be one of the best lineups the festival has ever programmed.
SXSW takes place March 8-16 in Austin Texas. Here are just some of the films we are excited about.
Narrative Feature Competition – This year’s 8 films were selected from 1,191 submissions. Each film is a World Premiere.

It's been a while since we've had an update on Universal Pictures' R.I.P.D., which is based on the Dark Horse comic book Rest In Peace Department and wrapped production earlier this year. The story follows a cop (Ryan Reynolds) killed in the line of duty and is recruited by a team of undead police officers working for the Rest In Peace Department, and then tries to find the man who murdered him (Kevin Bacon). Jeff Bridges, Mary-Louise Parker, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, James Hong, Robert Knepper and Tobias Segal round out the cast of the movie, which is directed by Red's Robert Schwentke. Now, R.I.P.D. is about to receive some additional filming. Bloody Disgusting has learned that Universal are sending Schwentke back behind the camera this weekend for some reshoots on the film. No word on where exactly the reshoots will take place, but stay tuned to Cbm for more updates.

Darkrooms are generally used in photography, but not here. In Britt Napier's film, a darkroom is used to "reveal secrets." The character Michelle (Kaylee DeFer) has killed three of her friends in a horrifying car accident, which leaves her visibly shaken. And now, someone wants revenge! Darkroom is currently at the American Film Market. This title will have its World Premiere at this event November 1st. This film will then, hopefully, find a release date so horror fans can uncover Michelle's secrets too. Premiere Date: November 1st (World Premiere). Director: Britt Napier. Writer: Michaelbrent Collings. Cast: Kaylee DeFer, Elisabeth Röhm, Christian Campbell, Tobias Segal, and Steve Stanulis. The film's official trailer is here: *this is the directors first feature film.
