The movie adaptation of the Melissa Marr novel Wicked Lovely has conjured up a second wind. Originally set up at Universal by Wild West Picture Show Productions, the project is now freed up and Wwpsp has brought in indie production house Pukeko Pictures to produce and oversee special effects, and Weta Workshop for design and physical effects. They will set a director shortly and then CAA will shop the project. Wwpsp’s Vince Vaughn, Valeri Vaughn and Peter Billingsley are producing with Pukeko’s Martin Baynton and Adam Fratto, and Richard Taylor is exec producing. What a difference a few months make! In early June we reported that Mary Harron (American Psycho) was in final negotiations to direct Wicked Lovely, Universal’s teen fantasy project being produced by Vince Vaughn's Wild West Picture Show Productions; however, now the studio has put the project in turnaround.
Apparently cost considerations aren't to blame this time around (as they were for both Dark Tower and Ouija, which Universal also scrapped in recent weeks). In Wicked Lovely's case it was more a matter of "the studio realizing the project doesn’t suit their needs." The producers, who in addition to Vaughn include Valeri Vaughn and Peter Billingsley, will now attempt to find a new home for the project.
The book series by Melissa Marr is a Twilight-esque story set in the secret world of faeries and centers on a teenage girl who can see the hidden faery world.

Just days after dumping McG and Michael Bay's "Ouija" adaptation, Universal has now passed on the film adaptation of Melissa Marr's book series "Wicked Lovely" says Heat Vision.
The story centers on a teenage girl who can see the hidden faery world but confronts danger when not only do the faeries discover her ability, but also when one king decides she must be his bride.
"American Psycho" director Mary Harron was attached to direct the project which Caroline Thompson ("Edward Scissorhands," "Corpse Bride") adapted the script for.
While "Ouija" was dumped due to the expense, 'Wicked' is being ditched because the project "doesn't suit their needs" which basically means they've lost interest. It also helps that the project wasn't very far along in development.
Producers Vince Vaughn, Valeri Vaughn and Peter Billingsley are now expected to seek a new home for the property.
